Long story short my love, the Handel family found out about Cora's baby. Mrs. Handel bribed a nurse and got the results. As simple as that. A girl it said.
Theodore went nuts, directly to the hospital and tried to kill Cora. He threatened her in front of her layer and many witnesses, he was beyond furious. To think that his family broke apart because an unborn girl. A girl would never inherit the business. He would never have to marry Cora because of an unborn girl. He should have seen her to take an abortion. It's her fault though, she knew it and kept it a secret, she lied. He hated her. He wanted her gone. He was going to see her dead.
...
"Theodore Handel arrested on act! Business man tries to kill his 8 month pregnant wife on the hospital!" the newspaper's headlines were impressed on the very next day.
Theodore was arrested.
Mrs. Handel had an heart attack and
Mr. Handel divorced her. Afterwards he went abroad trying to scape the backlash.
As for Cora...
She had lost her family again. The love of her life hated her because of her cancer. Cancer is how she refers to her unborn baby.
A growing tumor that took away all her happiness. She just wanted it out. She wanted to see Theodore, tell him that she would never blame him, that she would take him out of prison, she just wanted to be with him, be loved by him, have him to her self by her side. He just needed time to adapt to her and she needed to give him this chance. It's fate.
...
A month later she gave birth.
Cora had baby blues. She never got to see her child because once she knew the kid was out she reached out to kill it. The nurses took the baby girl away for she was born without breathing and undergoing surgery was inevitable. The baby never once cried. Cora never heard her daughter's first cry.
The psychiatrist finally had a diagnosis, delusional disorder, OCD and persecutory delirium. She was interned - locked away, at a bughouse ( ~hospice) for the doctor also suspected of schizophrenia.
Cora was considered to be a danger for herself and others, henceforward, she lost the right of freedom and was now a mentally ill patient.
As for the baby girl, Cora named her Santan but the layer Daisy decided to change it.
Calla Amara. Daisy thought about the greek muse Calliope from epic poetry, short being Calla, it means beautiful; Amara though, means grace, but it also means bitter... She has no last names since Cora only had the Handel's one and Daisy found it to be inappropriate to give her such name.
The girl is still undergoing treatment and she's motherless and fatherless. This 5 hour old baby is an orphan.
She isn't destitute though. Daisy sued the Handel's on Cora's behalf and, surprisingly enough, they won. Half of the Handel's fortune was necessary to cover the divorce, alimony and indemnity. Theodore was charged with moral damage, mental, verbal and physical abuse, polygamy and attempted murder. Mr. and Mrs. Handel were labeled as accomplices.
Cora was unwilling to accept the cash, she actually spited on Daisy's face after receiving the big news, but she also had no capability of choosing right from wrong. The money wouldn't end up on her hands either way for the court had decided that the biggest victim was the unborn child. The money was now frozen on the bank and it could only be accessed by Calla Amara once she achieved the age of 18. Daisy had also made sure that no gold digger foster parent would have access to the money even if it came to her legal answerable. It wasn't known to the public that the case was won and no one, besides Daisy and hereafter Calla, would know about the bank account.
Unfortunately Daisy had no means to bring up a child. She was at the beginning of her career and also single, she had no wish to became a mother. Still, she swore to make sure that the child was settled firmly in the system and admitted on a good orphanage. The last part was being a problem though.
Calla would be discharged in two days. She has spent the first five months of her life at the hospital attached to machines. Her lungs wouldn't work and her limbs were weaker then average. She couldn't breath by her self nor move. That also meant that she couldn't eat and was being powered by probe. The doctors said she wouldn't make to the second week but now Calla has almost half a year. Daisy was happy she still couldn't rest.
Calla needed a home. An orphanage. A good one at last. This child has already suffered so much without having the sense of awareness, she had no idea how many times her short live has been in sever danger. Such a pitiful kid. All the facilities that Daisy crossed paths with have blurred pasts. Tales about power abuse and violence. The ones that didn't appear to have doubtful character were all full. She had lost her hopes and was considering to go to her grandmother ask her for a favor...
Yet, the early bird always catches the worm. One institution, one with a clean past a last, is now available. In the past this orphanage was for boys only yet, considering the lack of children the direction decided to open up for girls. Daisy thought it was a sigh, things were finally looking brighter to dear Calla...
At least she thought they were !!!
