Chapter 39 - 39. Drown

Diana waited in front of James's apartment, she came at six p.m. 'Damn! Where is he? Did I come too early?' She checked the phone continuously after she called James, 'How long it took till he back home?' Diana felt uneasy, she was afraid that people might suspicious of someone that waited in front of someone else apartment.

She walked away from the place and tried to find the right place to wait. Diana looked around and remembered the café that James took her when they first met. She ordered some late and waited in the corner of the room, put her earphone on, and listened to podcast or some news as usual.

She couldn't pay full attention to it because some people just text, email, or the worst was they called her. Diana had finished her job and left her office without any obligation. 'Diana, can you help me with this? Diana, there's a problem here… can you help us? Damn I need a break!'

That was the typical day for her, anyone always asked her for help. Some of them were really needed help but also some of them were too lazy and they knew that Diana was opened and willingly helped them. She knew it and now she regrets it because she always kept overwork and impassionate at her work and the whole office knew it then she didn't have room to breathe.

She sipped her latte and ignore all of the income calls that had come. She stared at the street through the window, the beautiful skies with orange color from the suns. It drowns slowly at the horizon, slowly everything gets darker. Everything changed slowly, even her thought that said she loved her job more than anything now had changed.

Diana knew it and she wondered what happened, she never thought it would happen. The time when she felt annoyed by her own job, what happened with you, 'Diana? Why I feel so tired these past few weeks. Everything went like usual but why I'm so bothered with it?' Diana questioned everything even though she didn't know the answer. Diana felt bothered with everything around her. She tried being asked the same question every day.

She heard her phone rang, but it just a message notification sound. She checked it immediately in case if James was already home. She reached the phone with a face full of hope but then turned into an upset face. It wasn't James who texted but Lucas there was on it.

"Diana, do you wanted to ignore me again? I wanted to take you to dinner, just once, please. Consider it okay? Call me after it,"

Diana read it from the notification bar, she didn't want to reply to it. She hadn't idea what on Lucas's head, 'Why he kept pursuing me? Just give up Lucas!!' Diana closed his phone, and then put it on silence mode. She wanted to make quality time with herself.

Meanwhile, James still on the road and didn't move since the last time Diana called. Watched the sunset in the middle of nowhere, so please and calm. He could reduce his anger over there, so quiet and peaceful. There's no car or any other transportation passed by, he listened to the breeze and watched the skies turn darker.

No one could hear his scream, voice, and cried. He was total alone, he hadn't any idea where was that. James enjoy the moment of silence, he couldn't felt it when he went back home, back to the city and everything within.

When the suns left him alone stood beside his car, he intended to go home. Nothing he could do anymore, maybe he would come back over there just to saw the suns drown at the horizon, drawn away along with his feeling.

James back into his car, checked his phone if Diana called again. She wasn't called again and James got a little surprise there, he thought she would chase and haunted him everywhere. Little did he know that Diana waited patiently with a lot of anxiety.

They both had through some rough times with different problems and maybe that was the reason why they just clicked. They were in the same situation with all the frustration and anger, these two people through their own frustration but they could share those problems with wine on the other hand.

James drove back through the way that he came before, he paid attention to every spot on the streets in case if he wanted to back to this place again. So beautiful, there was just meadow and wheat field along the road. He went out of the city and found a relaxing place outside the city, 'I'll come back later.'

Two hours straight James drove his car and didn't pull over, he still got feeling for Diana. She waited for so long and almost fell asleep in the café. She had to order the espresso because her eyes almost closed many times. James almost got back to his place and called Diana to make sure of her condition.

"Diana? Are you still there?"

She still felt limp and sleepy when answered the phone, "Yeah…"

"Okay, I almost there so hang on,"

Diana yawned and now her eyes fully opened, "Where the hell have you been!!? Did you know how long I've waited here?"

James exhaled, "I'm sorry okay? I've something to do first, okay bye."

He hung up and that made Diana snapped more than before, 'He should get rid of this habit and let people finished the conversation!' She paid for the coffee and back to the apartment, and not long after she arrived, James came back with his messed face.

Diana could see it on his face, something quite wrong there. He had the eye bag, and couldn't be walked properly. She almost thought that he drink alcohol again. James waved at her when he gets out of his car, and didn't say anything. He picked his keys to the apartment and opened it, without said anything Diana followed him.

"Have a seat," James opened the conversation while went to the bedroom to change his outfit.

"So would you tell me where had you been?" Diana sat at the benchtop, stared at every corner of the place.

"Shut up, you aren't my mom," James walked out with a little laugh from his mouth, "So what brings you all the way here?"

"Nothing, I wanted to check your condition."

"Really? Just to check my condition?"

Diana shrugged, "Who knows you'll be passed out in this place or the worst case if you passed out in the street according to the alcoholic habit that you had. Plus…right now you have some issue with your…"

Diana was hesitant to continue her sentence, she didn't know what James gonna react. She gazed at his expression, James seems didn't about what she wanted to say but she could see his eyes looked down. She reminded him of the nightmare that he had, she didn't know that right now James held the pain from the wound that he got this afternoon.

"Yeah, right…" James gave a hand sign to stop, he didn't want to hear the end of that sentence. "Diana, had you ever in love?"

James blunt and Diana wasn't ready for it. She stammered to answer it, 'wait…what?' She didn't know where the direction of this talk. She looked James in the eyes and she could sense that she should answer the question. James became intimidating at the moment, and Diana couldn't think about anything. 'What happened to him? Does he want to do something bad to me? Damn what happened with this situation.'
