Something I learned very quickly, is when you're just a soul in somebody else's body, sleep means nothing to you. The way I learned this is Gil deciding whenever I want to sleep, he wants to talk to me and show me something new.
"We haven't even known each other a week and I already find you annoying," I said angrily.
"You didn't seem so hostile before," Gil said, once again petting Lupa and Fen.
"Before life made some sense and I was allowed to get peaceful rests."
"Somehow you don't seem the type to have peaceful anything, but that's neither here nor there. I promise you I have good reason for interrupting your rest."
"You really know how to get under somebody's skin, ya know that?"
"Were you being literal or trying to make a joke?"
"Gil, just tell me what you need and let me sleep." At this point I was getting annoyed at how little he seemed to care about anything.
"Fine fine, you don't have to be so high strung though. In this dream world of sorts your body and mind are still resting, as long as you don't get injured or die here, no bad can happen. In fact the opposite is what I wanted to tell you, in this space you can train with the system all you like, become a better fighter and all that." The smile he had while saying this made me want to punch him.
"How interesting, is that all?" I was becoming very irritated.
"Basically, whenever you're asleep you can visit this place, it's where I and any beasts you take will reside. I'll be sure to make some changes so you can have a place to train all of your skills privately."
"I won't lie, that's pretty cool, but you couldn't tell me this when I was awake?"
"It's easier when you're asleep because that's when your conciseness can drift into my soul, instead of the other way around when you're awake."
"Whatever that means, I'm gonna go now, but thanks Gil."
I'm glad he's so kind and helpful, I just wish he had better timing with trying to help. Or that he'd actually show me how to use the system a bit.
Waking up was not a pleasant experience by any means. At six in the morning, just as the sun was rising, a loud alarm rung all throughout the dorm building. Daron warned me it would be a loud and annoying when it was time for me to wake up, he undersold it.
I groggily got out of bed, put on the training uniform they provided, which was just some black pants and a black sleeveless shirt. The same clothes Daron and Kyla were wearing when I met them. The only difference with mine is I put my cloak on as well.
I left my room and went towards the cafeteria, on my way there everyone else looked as tired as me, which was reassuring. Though there was not as many people as I remember being on the train that I had seen so far throughout my partial day awake, in fact I only saw three people at all.
Upon entering the cafe, I saw Xynthia already cooking in the black floored section. As I was about to say hi to Daron came from behind and put his hand over my mouth.
"Do not draw any more attention to yourself as necessary, I should've warned you yesterday, we're already behind," he said before walking over to help Xynthia cook.
'I would say that's suspicious, wouldn't you," Gil said, but for once instead of hearing him through my ears, it sounded as if it a thought inside my head. As I was about to speak, I heard him again, 'I know you rarely do this, but try talking inside your head so people don't think you're crazy, clearly he already does.'
I scowled and walked forward towards the two, 'so since when can you get in my head, and why would they think I'm crazy?'
'Maybe you didn't realize it because you're an idiot, but whenever you talk to me, you speak out loud. Everyone you've talked to since you accepted the ring, has seen you talk to me and think you're talking to yourself.'
'But could you always speak in my head?'
'Yes.'
'THEN WHY SPEAK IN MY EAR?!'
'I never heard you think, so I never wanted to, but you not getting inspected is important. I'll leave it at that.'
After my weird, and insulting exchange with Gil, I walked over to Xynthia and Daron. Daron looked perfectly fine, barely tired at all in fact, meanwhile Xynthia looked absolutely drained.
"Hey, you okay sis?" I asked her.
She immediately shot my a sharp glare, and Daron kicked me in the shin.
"What did I just say you idiot, keep things down, don't cause a scene," Daron whispered while frying some eggs.
"Caesar, you know how it's strange we're the only people with siblings? Don't let everyone know, they could use that against us," Xynthia said.
"You guys are confusing me, you act like we will get attacked or something by everyone else," I said while grabbing a piece of toast.
"Did none of you tell him anything?" A familiar voice said from behind me.
"Honestly, I thought he'd be smart enough to at least be quiet about that," Daron said without looking up.
"Oh well, you'll get all the details later I'm sure, so just be careful with what information you put out there," Icarus said smiling at me.
