Icarus went to sleep after our battle. Everything that happened had worn him out and he seemed shaken. My wounds hurt, but they were nothing to serious that would put me in immediate danger, though they do need to be looked at soon.
"Alright, now that he's asleep, explain what happened to me," I said knowing the angel could hear me.
"Well you certainly discovered the system much earlier than anticipated," he said.
"So you had planned for me to eventually find this anyway?"
"Of course. But I suppose you deserve to hear a bit about it. So let me tell you a bit of backstory about me to help you understand. My name is Gil, and I come from a country that no longer exists. It was a small island nation named Bastia and had existed since times well before any recorded history you'll find. Though we were always different from other humans, for we have always had powers like you now have. My power was a strange one, it allowed me to create new powers for others, allowing to fill gaps that needed filling. We had existed peacefully forever, all up until the war that changed the world forever happened. We were unfortunately not prepared for what happened and our home, and all of us, were destroyed. Before the end my father split my soul and put them into objects like your ring, hoping I would one day rebuild our home."
"Wow. That is, a lot to take in at once. But how do I know that you're telling the truth?"
"Well I suppose that's up to if you want to trust me or not. But if you're going to believe anything I say, believe this. Now that you're wearing that ring, I'm on your side, and as we find more pieces of my soul, the more I can tell you and do for you. So let me ask this of you. Will you be the champion of Bastia?"
"You really seem to like throwing a lot at a person all at once don't you? But sure, I guess since this ring is impaled in my finger, I don't really have a choice, so I'll be your champion."
Just as suddenly as I had agreed, a ding sound could be heard in my head and just after a robotic woman's voice spoke.
"Bastian System access granted, hello new user. Registering user to system, would you like a tutorial?"
I looked over to Gil and he just shrugged at me.
"The system is my way of granting you some extra power. It should cover everything it can do for you itself. Though if you ever have questions I suppose I am always here. But I'll leave it to you to figure it out for now."
With that he vanished again and I was left alone with a sleeping Icarus and a system in my head.
"Start tutorial."
With that I was lead through menus and sub menus being shown how to access everything and what it all meant. Honestly there was way to much. Between all of the system and what Gil told me. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't overwhelmed. But I had learned that this system was going to be very useful for me in the long run.
What really stood out to me immediately though, was the class system. There were several different classes, most of which were several question marks and grayed out, which the system told me meant they were locked. But there was a couple that weren't grayed out and looking into them, their stats and abilities were different. Meaning that based on a class I chose, I could be stronger or faster.
The two that were unlocked for me currently were Beastmaster and Beastzerker. The former being how I got the two wolves as familiars and the latter being my transformation. Zerker was set as my main class and master as my subclass.
Looking more into the Beastzerker. It seemed by fighting new beasts I'd gain the ability to transform part of me into them. The more times I fought a certain beast, the more of me I could transform into them. Along with the wolves there seemed to be a few pre-registered basic animals such as a porcupine and a hawk.
The Beastmaster had the ability to tame beasts, the more powerful they saw me as, the more likely I'd be able to tame them. I could then later summon them to fight by my side or just as a pet. Though if they were to die, I would lose them. I chose to name the two flare wolves I had tamed. The one with the scar from me is a boy I named Fen and the timid one is a female I named Lupa.
It seems both classes can level up and gain more abilities, along with my own independent level separate from those. I would get experience to level myself up from doing tasks and winning fights, while the classes had their own requirements such as different beasts tamed and transformations acquired.
"Well it definitely seems like I'll always have something to do now at least," I sighed realizing that whatever I've gotten myself into. Was not going to be a short easy road to follow.
I fiddled around in the menus for a while longer while I waited for Icarus to wake up, but most of the options to select were grayed out with the question marks. It seems I'd have to unlock them somehow later.
