Chapter 1 - Mazatl's Birth

When I was born, people celebrated and cried.

As a newborn, a speech was recited to me they told me I would cry and suffer, but also laugh and smile.

A huge party was thrown, for I was born on the day of the Deer. In my village, it is thought to be a good omen for someone to be born on the day of the deer. They say that person would grow up to be wise and intelligent. That's why I was named "Mazatl" which means "Deer". Many did agree it was a suitable name for me even though it was not very feminine.

My family and relatives were never able to hear me walking and would get surprised whenever I "appeared" out of nowhere.

When I would get sick I had the habit to open and widen my eyes wider than they should have been. This act made my eyes look larger than usual. They thought I looked like a deer, who is alert and aware of its surroundings.

Though being born on the day of an animal isn't always a good thing at times. For a God might want that human to do its bidding on earth and on the other side.

No one likes to get dark and depressing though, so not much is thought about it since it's just a silly legend or that's what they at least say.
