Chereads / Lost Princess of War / Chapter 6 - Wake

Chapter 6 - Wake

In the early hours of a new day, a call was sent in to the governess. She and a few of her men went out to a scene they didn't expect. Some of the men they knew helped and or worked for them lay dead on the road, the back doors of the van ripped open. These were men that had been sent to retrieve the girl and when the governess found this she was infuriated. "My my what do we have here, more failures under my order. Dreadful. Oh well they deserve this from failing but now what happened to the girl." she said as she turned and looked at her men. She crossed her arms and waited for an answer.

"Uh we believe the vigilantes are at work here. They must want her just as much as you do."

She glared "I already figured that one out regaled its basic common sense. We need to find her or else. Now hand me the gas can."

The man looks at her hesitantly then hands it to her. She begins pouring it on the dead then lights a match and throws it at them, they are engulfed in flames.

"Put out the fire as soon as their ashes then return to headquarters, I have some things I need to deal with."

She says as she briskly walks past them not even flinching at the scene. She walks to a white corvette then heads back to her home.

The next morning…

I began opening my eyes, it had felt like an eternity since I had done this. As I did the only things I saw were these bright lights looking down at me, along with that I could see a white wall. I decided to pull myself up a bit on what I presumed as a hospital bed. As I moved, pain shot through my head and I flinched at the pain and let out a little yelp.I sit there for a moment and feel a scab on my forehead and the back of my head hurt to touch. I drop my hands down and let out a sigh. I tried to look to my left but my vision was slightly blurry.

As I look at it my vision clears a bit and I begin to make out that it was a curtain pulled across between me and whatever was on the other side. I slowly swing my legs over the lip on the bed and sit looking at it. I tried to stand but was a little wobbly so I held onto the side of the bed. I slowly made my way towards the curtain and could hear voices on the other side. I then grab onto the curtain and pull it back to reveal a man and a woman. The man sat on his bed and stopped talking then just stared at me. I flinch a bit and look at the nurse. She turns and looks at me. Her hair was a bright pink with blue streaks going through it along with that part of her head was shaved.. She wore a pair of glasses and held a clipboard. She smiled at me

"Well hello there we didn't think we would see you awake for a few days, let alone standing on your own. That is quite fascinating actually." she says as she writes some stuff quickly on her clipboard. I look at her confused

"Uh what do you mean by that?'

The woman looks from the clipboard.

"Oh well that's quite easy to explain actually. You my dear went through some shitty stuff. You were hit quite hard on your head knocking you out which had given you a concussion but that was after you had physically exerted yourself to the brink where you couldn't anymore. Not to mention the partial frostbite you began getting due to how little you wore and on how you were just in socks not even proper footwear. We expected you to be out for at least a week while your body fixed itself after all of that but somehow it hasn't even been 48 hours and here you are standing in front of us. Well mostly, you're rather wobbly and should sit back down to let your body rest."

The lady says as she helps sit me down. And I looked at her.

"I didn't realise it was that bad. Do you think I will be okay? The woman looks at me.

"I believe so but for now we are going to keep you for a day or two so we can observe you before clearing you to leave." I look at her and nod. She smiles then turns back to the man. He began sitting up and let out a grunt as he shifted to the edge of the bed, his hands clenched onto the bed. I watched and then noticed the bloodied bandages along his shoulders. The woman speaks to him.

"Alright time to get some new ones I would say. " she begins unraveling the bandages and shows two jagged scars across his shoulders. Dried blood was around them as well.

"Well Cormac it looks like your healing well, but the skin is still fragile and can easily rip open again. You're going to have to take it easy for a few more days until the cells are strong enough to stop from tearing. It looks like sudden movements have caused them to tear again. I'm going to wipe the blood off and put some alcohol on them to help heal and prevent infection, okay?" the lady says.

He looks at her "You're the doc S, just do what you have to and what will help me get out of here as fast as I can, I've got a bar to run and working everything out with everyone."

She looks at him

"Yes yes I know mister never relaxes. You will be good to return to your duties in a few days as long as you cooperate with me. Got it?" He looks at her and nods. "Good" she says as she cleans the wounds then begins wrapping them up again,

"Alright you should be good for a few hours, Just stay put, hey at least you have someone you can talk to now." she says with a chuckle and a pat on the back. He chuckles and shakes his head.

"Well I have to get going now so you two stay put and rest, keep each other company and dont try and kill each other alright? I'm off now. Bye" she says. I give a small wave to her and Cormac does as well. The click of her heels soon became faint and then silence fell. I look around for a moment before turning and laying back down, I look towards C and see he is staring at me. I look at him confused.

"Yes? Can I help you?" I say. He stares at me more. I turn and prop myself up on my one arm.

"Got anything you wanna say?' I asked him. No response. I roll my eyes and turn away from him. A moment later I hear a voice

"Why did you run?" those people from Brightland are not your enemy."

I sit for a moment then turn and look at him

"Pardon?" I look at him. He has crossed his arms

"You know the wild freak out and run away game you played. Why did you do it?"

I rolled my eyes and sat up looking at him.

"Because they are insane. They tried to say that I was a lost child, the one everyone wants. They kept telling me lies saying I was the Lost princess of war. I have never heard such an obscure thing. I am not special nor will I ever be. I'm sorry but that just isn't me." I say as I pull my knees up and curl them into my chest, my arms holding them close to me.

"First of all Crya you are. Second, in case you didn't realize I'm Cormac or as you know C. and all in all there just following orders to protect you. Every single one has taken the oath to protect you no matter what, even if that means death. We can't lose you as you are important to everything we stand for. Crya please don't fight what you know is true"

"Bullshit your group is full of reckless people and maniacs. You're running around fighting people and killing things yet you do nothing for the real problems affecting this place. You have no reason why you fight so why do it? I'm sorry but I'm not going to be a part of this. I just want out of this whole damn city!"

I say then get lightheaded. I close my eyes and hold my head for a moment before hastily holding it back up. A dull throb came from my left temple.

"Don't we all but till that time comes we're stuck under the rule of El Doro."

"Until that time comes, really. God you don't wait for things to happen you take ownership and make them happen. Waiting around is just going to cause fear inside which will hold you in this damn place until you take that first step and go for what you want. And honestly if something was done earlier maybe El Doro wouldn't be as strong as it is now. So if you can't take the first step to what you want then why the hell am I sitting here across from you in this damn hospital room!" My head began to hurt more and blood came out of my nose a bit. I wipe it and look at it confused then wipe it off on the hospital gown I was wearing.

He looks at me before going to speak again and I stop him "don't" As I say this my vision begins to go dark then I fall back on the bed blacking out. I didn't even hear him call for a nurse.

A few minutes later I can feel people touching me and poking things into me, suddenly I freak out.

"No NO don't touch me, I don't want to be your test subject." I thrash my arms and legs kicking and screaming. I feel my legs and arms get pinned down. The next thing I knew a hand went across my face and I saw Molly on one side holding me down. I hear a calming voice.

"Shh shh relax Cyra it's just me Sona, or S, point is your okay, your not in a lab, your not being experimented on, nothing is happening to you, all I am trying to do is give you an I.V drop to help balance out some fluids and give you some medicine, ok, nothing bad is going to happen to you." she says as she brushes my hair out of my face. I look at her and slightly nod. My body relaxes and the people let go.I then hesitantly let Sona give me the i.v. I watch Molly leave and walk towards Cormac. He looks at her.

"Molly that is not how we treat people if I wasn't in this condition I would discipline you." he says with a glare. She rolls her eyes

"Oh really, what are you going to do about it, green eyes? Hm? Hm? Whatever, I'm leaving for a bit, if you need me, call." she says as she walks out of the room.

I look at Cormac "What happened"

He looks at me.

"Well you were freaking out because of different things when your nose began to bleed then your eyes suddenly rolled to the back of your head and you fell back on the bed. Quite odd if I do say so myself."

"Oh well isn't that just lovely. I guess I have nothing I can do right now so how about I ask you some questions then?"

" Well I can't quite do that for you right now but I will explain everything in due time but first keep what we do and how we do it open to consideration. Once my arms heal I'll take you for a walk to meet the rest of the team. The woman who is helping both of us recover is Sona, our health and chemical expert. The girl who saved you last night was Ray. She is currently still on patrol."

I look at him and let out a sigh "fine, well at least answer this question. Why would you put your own life on the line for me and others? Also why did you have this group talk about me being this lost princess of war and having the group swear to protect me when you guys don't even know who I am and I don't know who you are?

"That was more than one question but as I said before, I will explain all in time but the reason I risk my life to protect the true owners of this city is the people that lived in it before the war that happened not so long ago."

"But why risk your life for me? I'm not important or special. I am just a kid with no Idea about myself or about who I actually am.

"Ah but that's just it. That's one reason why we were trying to help. you may not know us by our actual names but i'm quite sure you have heard of the resistance haven't you?"

"Well everyone has heard about the resistance they apparently have been quite a pain in the governess' ass from blowing up her supply trains that leave the city to even killing some of her guards."

"Yes that is us but those reasons are what she tells the people what is happening what is truly happening though is this. The trains coming in are actually full of people that are enslaved by El Doro. We destroy the trains and set them free. We also kill the guards that are actually men from El Doro who come in as spies. And we go around trying to protect the real people that own this city. The ones that have been imprisoned long ago under a ruler they did not pick or want. In truth we may look like vigilantes in the eyes of the public but the ones who know who we truly are thank and support what we do. So does that change your mind about us being the bad guys."

"Honestly it helps to make my mind clear. But if you were a guard you know the rules. What was the real reason to be a guard."

"When I was a guard I mainly went on missions that took us outside of the city's walls to recover artifacts of the old days before the war. I also did it so I could learn how to properly fight so that when I finally was ready to start the resistance I would be able to lead and understand the chain of command I would have to be in."

"Damn it sounds like you were a rather busy person on the guard. There must have been a lot you ended up witnessing.

"I'll explain later once I heal more but right now I need to rest. That and the morphine I'm on puts me to sleep.

That literal second he fell asleep knocked out by the medicine. I turned to look at the women called Sona.

"So how long will he be out for? Is there anything wrong with me from being knocked out?"

"He will be fine within the next day or two the healing serum is working quite well as the wounds are almost healed enough to remove the stitches. As for you I am not certain. Your test results came back inconclusive. Most likely once you are a little better we will have to perform a CT scan to see if there are any abnormalities within the brain. For now though stay relaxed as we don't know what could be causing this and if you get worked up too much it could have some detrimental repercussions. So for now rest up. I will be back in a few hours to check your stats again.

With that, she turned and walked into a nearby room. I looked at Cormac as he was asleep and even though his shoulders were stabbed only two days ago his bandagues had no blood on them. I guess that serem really works. But the morphine he is on definitely helps with the pain. I must've drifted off to sleep because Sona woke me up with a plate of food. I ate the food slowly. It wasn't bad but different from what I was used to in a hospital. I thought I would be served some kind of mac and cheese but instead I was given a plate with small steak potatoes and some corn. Definity whoever made this was a skilled chef. When I looked over to my left again Cormac wasn't in the bed in fact it looked like the bed had been completely cleaned. I wonder where he might have gone too.

After I ate I took a better look around me. I could hear people talking and laughing and even music I advised against going to see because first I wanted to figure out where I was. So I started to get up from the bed and walked towards the window. As I looked out it was sunrise as I looked out into the backyard of wherever I was. There was a group of people standing outside watching the sun rise. One was Cormac. He was still in his clothes and he was in bed. I began to walk towards the stairs. Then walked out to join the few who were there. So far it was Molly, Jay, Sona. Once I got closer to them Cormac turned around and spoke. "Another day. Glad you finally got out of bed Crya."

"But why are you guys out here anyway?"

"We come outside every morning so we can see the sun. It reminds us of what we fight for. The freedom of a life without pain and suffering. And the sun represents that. Its light reaches all across the world bringing life liberty and energy for those who need it."

"That's some deep stuff I would say.."

"Interpret it however you please but now I think it's time for you to officially meet Sona other than just quick glances."

Sona turned around "yes I Agree i'm Sona Balker the chemical and health expert in our group. I'm either in one of two places, the hospital or the chemical room."

"Okay but answer me this where are we?" Cormac Began to answer my Question "Oh were just in the yard of the Brightland hotel. But one thing you may not have known is that the actual hotel is the size of an average football field so having a yard that works well with it is nice. Now for the rest of the team you'll meet later right now off either sleeping or doing some other jobs."

"Ok but what will I be doing in your hotel till that time?"

"Hopefully laying low as we try to get the guards off of your trail. They will be looking around the sanctions where you were last spotted. So for now stay in your room and only answer if it's one of these people here or know your codename as Sliver."

"Wait, why is my code name sliver? Everyone else's are part of their own name?"

"Yours is silver because if the governess found you they would know what your name is and what code names you would use. We call you sliver because of your eyes. They have a silver glint near the bottom left of your eyes."

"I don't notice the glint when I look at the mirror though."

"You can't see your own glint look at my eyes, what do you see?"

"You have the green glint okay but answer me one question why when I first met you your eyes were bright green."

"Just something my body does when I get defensive or I get mad it's all because of the chemical in my blood, I've had it since I was born. I don't know how it fully works. I just know more how to use it to protect myself and others."

"That's interesting and you have somewhat mastered it."

"Haven't really mastered it but I can say the chemical I got from my family tree."

As Cormac finished those words I saw his facial expression change from cheerful to a face of slight sadness. And even remorse . I wonder what he was truly thinking about as him being sad didn't seem like a quality he had. I left it for now as he probably had a lot on his mind right now.

Later in the day I could hear someone crying a bit. As I looked out into the hall I saw a light and I began to walk towards it. The person in the room was Cormac. He was holding a photo I didn't see clearly. The only thing I saw was a woman with blond hair. blond hair as I began to enter more cormac hid the photo and turned.

He gets defensive and stands up rather quickly and gets close. I flinch and back up.

"Don't you knock?! Look please just leave me be right now. I'll be fine"

"Who was in the photo?"

"Things in the past. Things I can't change now will you get out of my room."

As I began to leave the room another door opened it was a girl with white locks. She looked very built for a girl her size. Her body was in almost perfect condition except her legs which were wrapped in bandages. She seemed to not care that I was there and just walked past me into Cormac's room.

I wondered to myself who she was and why she basically shoved me aside. Everyone was happy I was here but not her.

As I continued back to my own room I lay down wondering who was that girl in both the photo and the one Cormac was looking at?

Brightland hotel 1800hrs.

It was cold and dark. She sat on the ground, her arms curled around her small legs. Her head was in her lap and her matted hair stuck up all over the place. She rocks back and forth shivering. Blood slowly drips from her arms into a small pool on the hard cement. She was alone but could hear the voices outside her door. They had stopped in front of it and spoke in a low tone.

"We are retrieving the girl now, she will be down in the lab in ten minutes."

The girl pulls her head up and looks at the door. Old scratches lined her face and fading bruises rested near her collarbone. The door knob begins to turn as she pushes herself back against the wall. Soon bright light pours in and two figures in shadow emerge in front of her. Her breathing quickens as she begins saying no.

The hands reach down and grab her arms with force. She screams out "no please don't take me I don't want to do anymore tests. They hurt me when I fail please don't!?"

The small girl kicks and tries to break free but she can't. A voice rings out

"Quiet little butterfly I don't want to deal with your pleas. Let's get this done and over with. Take her down."

A third shadow that looked more like a woman stood with the light on her back before she turned and walked down the stairs. The two shadows holding the girl began to walk towards it as she still thrashed. They walk out of the doorway and as they do the light flashes around them.

I jolt up in bed in hysteria. My body had broken out into sweats and I was shaking like a leaf. My breathing was heavy and the heart monitor was going crazy. Loud noises emitted from it and Sona rushed in. I hadn't realized the blood coming from my nose until sona pointed it out. She looks worried and tries to calm me down.

"Silver, Cyra sweetie, relax okay, okay breathe calm down. It was a dream that isn't happening to you right now. Relax we need to get your heart rate down before something worse happens."

I run my hands through my hair and begin taking deep breaths. My hair was sticky from my sweat and felt greasy. I begin to relax enough to speak.

"It felt so real though. Like it was a part of me. Like it was something I actually witnessed. I I can't get the vision out of my head."

I look down at my hands and arms. Some scars had run up and down them and I didn't really know what they were from. As I looked at them I began to shake more my legs began to feel numb. I looked to Sona who then began to become blurry. Her voice began to echo around me as she tried speaking to me, her voice sounded distant. She reaches out to grab my hand but as she does colors dance in my eyes and the last thing to happen was my body shifted then collapsed to the floor below me.
