Chapter 8 - chapter 8: diagnosis

Sona and Cormac stood beside my bed and I looked up at them. They looked from one another before Cormac locked eyes with me then began to speak.

"So we have the test results but we can't really show you hear so were taking you down to where your ct scan was done. We have all the diagrams and stuff set up their."

With that I got moved to a wheelchair and got pushed down a few hallways and into an elevator. We ended up going down several floors which surprised me as I didn't think we were that high up in the building. Once the doors opened up we entered a grey hallway that had bright blue lights that lined the halls. There were several different hallways heading to different places and it appeared we were below ground. We turn a few more times before we were in-front of a silver door. On it there was a black plaque with a name engraved onto it. The name was J.Orman.

Odd. I swear that was the same name that had written the article about Cormac, R and L. Cormac stands in-front of me.

"Were about to meet another friend of mine. His name is Joel. He helps Sona with the more technological side of things in her/* work. They make a pretty good team when they want to. He will help explain what we have found."

Cormac turns and opens the door. Sona pushes the wheelchair in and we enter a dimly lit room. It would take my eyes a minute to adjust to the new darkness around us. Cormac calls out for Joel.

"Hey Jay were here now can you show us what we have found."

With that a tall lean figure steps out from the shadows. He had a pair of goggles on that glowed in the dark. A gloved hand comes up for the goggles and he flips them open with a smile.

"Hey Cormac long time no see how has your shoulders been feeling. And ah Sona its nice o see you again." He smiles at the three of us. Cormac speaks up.

"I have been healing well thanks to your and Sona's help. The medicines you have been working on have been working well for not only me but the rest of the team as well. But were not here for chit chat. This is Cyra, the one we did the recent scans on." Cormac then puts the attention towards me.

Joel smiles and leans over to look closer at me. I awkwardly wave my hand at him and say hi." he nods.

"Ah yes miss Cyra or as we may call you silver. Yes let me get the lights and pulls everything up."

Joel then claps 3 times and the lights turn on in the room. Several computer screens light up and a two way mirror then appears. Through the mirror I could see the scanner in which they must have put me in a couple days ago. The room was clean and bright. Everything was white with some accents on different things. It was a rather hospitable looking room.

Joel walked over to a few computers and sat down in the chair that lay in-front of them and began typing in multiple things. He went so fast I could barely keep up. Cormac had walked over and stood beside Joel before leaning over, resting a hand on the desk and another on the chair as he watched the screen.

Sona wheeled me over to the screens and stood behind me resting her hands on the handles of the chair. Joel clicks a few more buttons then several photos appear on the screen. He leans back and intertwines his fingers.

"Alright Cyra here are your results we did a scan of your brain from multiple angles and found some odd stuff. It seems to us that you might have had some sort of foreign object placed near your amygdala. But it seems when you got hit over the head it managed somehow to dislodge and is beginning to head in towards your cerebellum. This would help explain the seizures you were getting."

I look at Joel for a moment then up at Sona.

"Uh what are those parts of my brain for anyway?"

Sona chimes in.

"That's rather simple to explain. So basically your amygdala is essentially the part of your brain that regulates emotions like fear and aggression. There is also the lateral amygdala is a more specific part that helps with fearful memories. It seems someone might have been trying to sever a connection between the amygdala and the hippo-campus which would essentially help send your memories to other connected memories you already have."

Sona looks at the screen for a moment.

"Okay then what exactly is the cerebellums job?' I ask out loud. Joel then chimes in.

"You cerebellum coordinates your voluntary movements so things like you posture, you balance, coordination and your speech. It helps things continually run smoothly. But f part of it were to be affected it could cause someone to have seizures and other problems along with it."

Concern washes over my face as I look to Sona. her arms rest gently in-front of her as she looks onward. I then ask a question.

"What does this all exactly mean then right now?"

Sona speaks.

"This means then that whatever the object is in your brain it could end up doing more harm then good at this point as it floats in your brain. It seems to have semi sharp points which could cut through parts of your brain matter causing lesions in it which could bring on a lot more problems. It also could cause swelling, brain bleeds and more if not removed. "

I look at Sona for a moment. "So what does this mean for me?"

Cormac jumps in quickly and speaks.

"It means we cant waste anymore time so we have to do surgery tonight before it gets any worse. You of course will be put under anesthesia while the process is completed. Are you ready to get this out to better you off in the coming future?"

The thought of surgery terrified me. It reminded me of what I saw as I escaped the lab. There had been blood and people in rooms strapped to tables. Children that were covered in there own blood. Some were passed out due to whatever they may have endured. But I knew those were not surgeries to save a life, rather they were to take the lives of innocent people who just wanted to live a normal life, but instead they were locked up in rooms and used as if they were nothing. It sickened me. But I knew this surgery would be to save my life, something much different then what I had witnessed. After a moment i look at the three hesitantly before I speak.

"Okay, if it must be done then lets do it, I don't wanna give up, there's still a lot left in life, even if its not the most lavish it is still a life. Plus I feel I can trust you guys so yes lets do the surgery tonight."

They smiled softly at me but when I landed on Sona her face showed concern. I look to her and ask why the concerned look. She looks at me then sighs.

"This surgery Joel and I have only done a few times, and not everyone made it through perfectly healthy. There is still a chance like many surgeries that you could die tonight on that table. Do you still want to take this risk?"

I think for a moment as concern washes over me, but I knew I couldn't think of this negatively because if I did then something bad would potentially happen. I take a deep breath in and close my eyes before speaking.

"I will still go through with this." I say as I look around the room at three strangers seemingly. My life would be in there hands but for some reason I felt confidant in these people I barely knew. Even though concern rested on there face, in there eyes lay a strength like no other, a determination that would not die out. For once I felt comfort in the eyes of strangers.
