Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

(y/n) P.O.V. 1st Person

I was forced to walk away from the scene in front of me as I followed him. Only a handful of us were left. The memory kept playing in my mind as if my memory would split apart. Despite the chaos inside, I managed to stay composed. I put on a calm face out of routine; my facial features numb to any expression.

Goltas led up in the front, holding out a lantern that only let us see a few feet in front of him. The tunnel was dark, and we couldn't see much. Behind me it was darker, slowly catching up to me, but I was too nervous to look behind. 'Be brave (y/n).' It was hard to clear my thoughts when we were surrounded by silence. The sound of their footsteps to remind me they were here, but were also slowly pulling me into past memories. The sound of the Master approaching the door before he'd beat me. I could hear it ringing in my ears.

I glanced over at Morgin. His face was expressionless just as much as my own. All of us were nervous, but we didn't dare show it. We had to appear strong for our master. We represented him after all.

As if he had felt my gaze, Morgin turned his head to face me. I felt my heart throb in my chest, feeling as if it could be heard aloud. Those red orbs were warm and welcoming. He sent me a subtle smile before I looked away. It would be okay, he tried to tell me. I guess it really didn't matter if you lived or died as a slave. Neither would result in a happy ending any more than a painful one.

I stumbled on my feet while trying to catch up to Jamil and Goltas. Soon I slipped, grabbing onto the Master's arm out of instinct. I heard him click his tongue in irritation as he tripped over his feet before remaining balanced. He glanced back at me, shoving me off his arm before gripping my hand. "Pathetic," I heard him mutter under his breath. I just furrowed my brows, staring down at my feet as he dragged me along.

He was much more frustrated, however, by the fact that we had not found Magi yet. Running his free hand through his hair, Jamil let out an exasperated sigh. We kept on walking, but I'm sure his feet were getting tired at this point. A pampered child like him had never walked this much; he shouldn't have to walk this much. I was a bit surprised he hadn't started complaining yet. If he wanted he could have asked Morgin or Goltas to carry him, it's not like anyone who witnessed it would come out of here alive.

The sound of Morgin's footsteps behind us stopped. Suddenly, he rushed up to Goltas and guided us in another direction. He must've caught the scent of something, or, more specifically, someone. Briskly we walked, following as he led us deeper down the tunnel. As he slowed down, I looked up to see a smile on Jamil's face.

He gripped tighter onto my hand without realizing it. Our Master was like a child, ecstatic about meeting the one he believed would make him king. I didn't understand much of it, but I knew this meant a lot to him. Watching him, I couldn't help but smile, my heart fluttered for a moment. Moments like this, his dual personality showed its other side. One that was easy to fall for, but just as manipulative. His green eyes glowed as he stared into what he believed was his future, but was actually his doom dressed as a silly fantasy.

But the rest of us were caught up in the past. A blood bath, not so long ago, came back to mind. My happy thoughts had been interrupted by reality. I came to register that all this could end. If and when we make it out, things could never go back to being the same. Other than those back at the house, we were the only few left. He would 'become king' as he says, and our lifestyle would change.

"Why are you shaking?" Jamil asked. I hadn't even noticed it, and I didn't reply. It was not my place. He slipped his arm around my waist as we kept following Morgin's lead.

Swiftly, Morgin turned around rushing back to where we had just passed. Looking to our Lord, Jamil nodded at him. We followed Morgin's lead to what I quickly recognized as the entrance to a cave. A faint light glowing from within.
