Chapter 46 - Standstill

"It seems you didn't study enough about the etiquettes to behave with your master like this?,"

Vance blinked his eyes innocently. "I never suggest such things that breach the etiquette though,"

I placed the test papers on the desk with a loud thud. "T-The lesson is over!," I stammered as I walked to the door. Vance giggled as he waved his hand.

"Oh Carina, I hope you enjoy the show tomorrow!,"

I was dumbfounded at what Vance said. I only realized what he meant when I reached my home.

"A royal trial?!?!," I slammed my hand on the desk. It's impact reverberated the whole room.

The spies I stationed everywhere in the capital bowed their heads desperately, shaking in fear of making eye contact with Carina. They know that anyone with the Aspera blood is fearless, ruthless and most of all, intimidating that you couldn't do anything but listen intently to their orders.

But the young lady of the Aspera is scary not just because of her personality, but that she is also doted heavily by the ducal heir and duke of Aspera! That means if you incur her wrath, it is twice the punishment.

"My lady, please quell your anger. Just like they said, someone seems to be controlling the circulation of rumours in the capital. It can't be helped that my lady's plan is facing a bit of difficulty," one of the spies spoke up.

"Well, who is it? Don't tell me you haven't found out about that too?,"

The spies glanced each other nervously. "My lady, it's the Odinel mercenaries,"

Odinel?

Yet another obstacle in my way. I remembered Odinel when I was the daughter of the insane mother 450 years ago before I became Archmage Geona. Me and Odinel had a bit of history. The founder of Odinel is one of my closest rival as well as the person who threatened me to marry him.

Langerfield.

He is the person who forced me to leave my insane mother. It was one of my past lives' that I vaguely remember the details, but Langerfield definitely left an impression for me. After my death, Langerfield quit the guild and gather a new group of elite mercenaries, forming the Odinel. But it has been a mystery who they serve, and if they're loyal to any master.

"The Odinel huh? That's troublesome. There has never been an information that they accidentally leaked," I said. Especially since they're well established mercenaries because they're the oldest.

I massaged my temples, thinking of how I've been slacking off a lot lately. I am not as sharp-witted as back then, and I've taken a more of a laid back approach. But this kind of result is really not up to par!

Emmy saw me frowning and was worried about my condition. "My lady, if you're too stressed then you might get sick again. How about getting help from young master?"

"From brother?,"

I gave a wry smile. Maybe it's time I finally get some help, as I just realized now that lately I am not as good as scheming like back then.

Getting Caspian to become an emperor is definitely the last thing I am going to do.

Then after that, with Frigores ancient spell, I will forever be put to sleep.
