Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A New Start

"Brother, he isn't ready for that yet! Hell, we just pulled him out of a Communist settlement! He doesn't need more stress! Let him rest and when he is ready, we can go to him!"

"Enough of this my dear sister. He is ready. Hell, he crawled all the way to the door and had clips of ammo on him. He showed himself to be a survivor. He pulled himself out of slumber just to escape. We are short on man power and the Colonel wants more people. Or do you wish to tell Miller that we let an opportunity slip past us?"

"Whatever. You just want to be promoted so that more women will be wooed over by you."

Well that is an interesting thing to wake up to. What were they talking about though? Hell, where am I now?

I look around to see curtains around me. I was on a bed. The smell and sight of how I woke up reminded me of a medical bay. I slowly stand up and pull back the curtains. Luckily I had my clothes on still because in front of me stood a woman and a man.

"Hello?"

"Hello there. Are you well rested?" The woman begins to examine me, looking for signs of me being tired or injured.

"I'm fine. Where exactly am I?"

"The question of 'why are you here' is better. You are in a facility on the surface though. Congratulations, you survived the Communists and have been given a chance to join the elite."

"What? I'm just a Mercenary. I'm no soldier."

"Maybe so, but why not become one? Perhaps this..." He pulls out three full clips of ammo and holds them out to me. "Will change your mind?"

"Now you're speaking my language. What do you need me to do?"

I take the clips and put them into my chest pocket. He moves to the side and motions me into a room. As I step into it, I notice my gear laying on a table, fixed and clean. I grab my items and get geared up, loading my revolver and shotgun. I look at the table and see a file wide open. I begin reading it.

"Communists and bandits are our worst threat. The Reich is not far behind, but the battle for D6 should the might of the Communists. Your job is to simply get information on them."

"Alright. Those three clips won't be enough though."

The woman enters and walks over to me. "What's your price then?" She hops onto the desk and crosses her right leg over her left. Her hands rest behind her, holding her up as she leans backwards a bit.

"You~" I jokingly flirt a bit and she raises her eyebrow at me, questioning me. "Sorry. It's meant to be a joke. You guys want me to get you information on the Communists. I need payment in bullets for trading or actual ammunition."

"Deal. Brother, he does not seem to be equipped for much more than short range. He needs an AK or a dart gun."

"Why not a Bastard?"

"Does he look like an expendable person?"

"Fair enough." He pulls off his AK and hands it to me. "Keep it in one piece or you shall not remain whole."

"Alright. Where do I start?"

"That is up to you."

I then walk out the door. I have my task and I have my gear. Now it's time to get my job done.
