Chapter 28 - The Part Of Me That Was Beft Behind

"That was incredible!"

We ran through the dark, Stell was leading us with Silk leading him. The spiders were still after us, with no sign of letting up.

"Thank you, I wish we still weren't going to die. Maybe it would have been better to end it there."

"No!"

I shouted as I jumped over a small rock outcropping, trying not to trip because that would be the end of it for me. I could hear the sound of hundreds of clicking noises chasing us as we ran through the dark. Luckily, we had Silk to keep us from taking paths that ended, leaving us trapped. Still, we had no way out, and I could tell Kade was getting tired. Her legs were a lot short than mine, and I was barely keeping pace with Stell's tree-trunk legs.

I whirled around and let Kade run by me and formed five marbles in my hand. I drew back and waited, then once I could see the reflective lines on the crystal crypt crawlers, I threw the spheres and ran. It didn't matter where they landed. I just ran towards the others as fast as I could and released my will.

The chasm erupted in howls of whines and squeals. The crawlers were terrifying, as their bodies were tossed and smashed into walls. The force of the spell releasing gave me a push as I kept on running towards the others. The others had stopped and been staring at me with wide-eyed amazement.

"Why are you guys stopping?"

I caught back up with them, but then I noticed that they weren't staring at me. I turned around to see what they were gawking at, and I couldn't believe what I saw. The part of the chasm that the crawler had come after us from was a giant wall that stretched over fifty feet high. The marbles had destroyed the walls of the abyss, and the smashed rock, crystals, and dead crawlers made a wall to block the way. Except the wall was glowing from the ichor from the crawlers.

"Even in destruction, there is art,"

Stell walked up to me and clapped me on the shoulder with a smile. Then he began looking around at the block in the passage.

"I'm just glad I cant hear that click-click-click noise anymore," Kade said with a sigh and sank to the floor.

We were all exhausted, and I had put a lot into those last spheres. Suddenly Silk started to spin around Stell's head, Acting very frightened. Stell tried to calm her, but she zipped to his ear and said something to him, and then hid in his hood.

"Dak, Silk says something massive is coming!"

I could already feel the ground under me tremble as Stell spoke. Slowly the chasm crystals began to light up with a dark purple glow. Something was wrong very wrong with what was appearing. That was when I started to hear the sound.

At first, it was only a low scream, but as it came close, the sound became a violet roar that sang of an ancient negative, not evil, but like chaos incarnate. The sound vibrated my mind, and I couldn't seem to think anymore. It was non-stop shaking me, and I couldn't concentrate until something small slapped me across my face.

"Dak!"

The voice yelled at me, and then I was back in the chasm. I shook my head, clearing the last of that sound from it, and looked up at Kade.

"Thank you, there was a sound that was shaking me from the inside,"

I thanked her as I got up. I hadn't realized I had fallen and still felt the noxious effects of the negative energy coming from whatever was ahead of us. I looked over and saw Stell pulling himself back up, with Silk pulling futilely on his robe to help him.

"Something happened to Stell, but Silk flew down and bit him on the ear, which seemed to bring him out of the shock. That's why I hit you,"

Blushing and turning away, Kade looked extremely timid in this present moment. Shyness and blushing at a time like this? What a fantastic creature. Whatever this was, it was old and big, and we had no way to escape.

Then the monster came into view. It was massive and angry looking like we had just pissed in his breakfast. It had a swirling horn protruding from its wolf-like face, and it was covered in purple fur. The thing was so big that it looked as if it could stand on its hind legs and crawl out of the chasm.

There was also a strange eight-pointed star with circles around it and strange marks that I couldn't make out. I floated just above the horn and that made me worry. If that was already casting a spell...

"No!" Kade began to cry, sinking to the ground.

"What is that thing, Kade? Pull yourself together!" I shouted at her, but she just sat there.

"You don't understand, we are dead, and there is nothing you can do. The Ancient Behemoths are immune to magic!"

Immune to magic? Is this possible? Just then, I looked over to see Stell make a wall shoot up in front of the Behemoth, but the damn thing just walked into it, and the spell dissipated.

The beast roared, and a streak of purple lightning struck Stell in the side and sent him sprawling on the floor, leaving a trail of blood. He didn't move or make a sound. What?

Something inside of me broke, my brother was lying on the ground, motionless, bleeding, the power inside of me welled up like a fountain. My eyes lit up, exploding with blue, and I made a sphere with everything I had, yet even as I released it, I felt the spell fall apart. Lightning struck me, and I was sent flying into Kade.

I could feel the life draining out of me, from the laceration caused by the lightning. My blood was pumping out of me and I could hear Kade sob on the ground beside me. I couldn't protect them, and it was all my fault.

"I'm sorry, Kade, I should have listened to you, but I'm glad I met you," I said, coughing up blood.

"It's ok," She said with tears in her eyes.

[The Gods perspective]

"How can you just watch this? What if you're wrong?"

"And what if I'm right? Then you will have given up your god spot for nothing. This is the boy's fault and this is their end as nature intended it."

Diagon was at his wit's end, Kira was not even paying attention, and Bel was being stubborn as usual. The argument had become moot and now it was just a way to pass the time, but Diagon wasn't going to beagle to sit back and watch them ideally killed. Too many unanswered questions to let a world end on an assumption.

[Dak's View]

I could see the Behemoth looming over us, getting ready to devour us, some heroes we turned out to be. I thought that this was going to be the end of us, but then I saw a blink of light above.

It was like a star was streaking down towards us, and we were bathed in a ray of radiance. It was a man dressed casually, holding a spear before himself and something in my head told me this was Diagon, God Of Balance. He had plummeted down from the heavens, spear forward, glowing with radiance, aimed for the ancient beast.

He plunged into the side of the beast from above, flipping forwards, ripping his spear out as he went and stabbing and slashing as he ran towards the head. He ran up and leapt in the air, then slammed down, driving his spear into the base of the Ancient Behemoth's skull. The great beast fell with an earth-shattering thud.

Diagon leaped down and grabbed Stell and leaped to the top of the chasm. We could only lay there in shock at what just happened in a matter of seconds. We had just been about to die, then this god came for the veritable heavens and saved us, but I hadn't called him.

What does this mean? I went to feel my shoulder where the chasm behemoth had hit me, but there was nothing wrong, even the clothes were fine.

Just then, Diagon slammed to the floor and grabbed the two of us. Before we could say anything, we were flying at breakneck speeds up and out of that horrible black abyss. Diagon set us down but then turned away. I knew what this meant.

"Your one of us now," I said to him, but he didn't say anything. "You won't be able to go back, now that you came by your own choice."

He sighed and turned around to face me.

"I deserve nothing less than this, traveler. I don't deserve to be a god if I can't help the ones that are trying to save this world. We will just have to make this journey together."

"Well, we aren't in any place or shape to argue, but we do need some sleep," I said to him as I sat down.

"Get some rest, I have healed you. I shall watch over you tonight, I am well rested."

Fair enough, I could see that Stell was already snoring and I wouldn't be far behind him; the light may have healed the hurt, but tired was tired. What a crazy ride so far, I thought, as Kade curled into me and instantly fell asleep.

New friends to help us find out what's going on here and now a superpower on our side with Diagon joining us. After my blunder, I told myself that I would leave behind that foolish unthinking child in that chasm as I slowly fell asleep. Tomorrow would be a new day.
