Chapter 4 - Disciple of Death

< Excerpt from the year 2280 CE >

Fundamentally, there is a sort of Magic within this world... we have measured the human soul over and over again, and to say it doesn't exist would be criminal to true science.

We do not have the knowledge to tap into the soul in any form. That is why we don't understand it, fundamentally... it's biology, all we need is the right creature.

There is nothing that cannot be done, so far as to say you are ignorant enough to do anything. Ignorance is bliss, but also a fundamental trait to humans. Most animals learn, some don't... but not because they won't, rather they can't. Most humans learn, some don't... but not because they can't, rather they won't.

< End Log >

It was by at this point, two days from breaching the surface, Lua grown fond of the new world set out before her. Pollution was no longer a thing, neither were lights frequent in the light... and in so, Lua had gained a new habit of stargazing.

Kris was readily recovering, she pondered what had happened to her as of recent... to her, is was absolute that Lua was some form of God or Deity, maybe a psycopomp? Was this ' facility ' the underworld? She couldn't rule that out, a wound like that would of killed her... and you can't just fix a stab wound of a tri-tip dagger that goblins use-!

Shamans could potentially fix a wound like that... but it would take months or even years to recover something like that, but she only needed a week... Kris was already feeling well enough to walk, but she was scared of what laid outside the surgery room that contained her.

What a hunter she was... nearly dieing to mere goblins... how was she ever supposed to hunt the infamous demon within this forest of she was overtaken by mere goblins? Kris pondered this for a moment, she considered her options.

Maybe after she is finished recovering and testing for Dr. Umbra, she would make her armor and weapons to help overcome her challenges! Or, maybe Dr. Umbra would accompany her on a journey, or maybe even that... what was he called? D ... Dra ...Something along those lines...

Kris needed to hunt that demon, she just had too... she had set off to do it, and this would be a pivotal step for the quest-!

Meanwhile, Lua, stared at the night sky.

It was the clearest she had ever seen it, photos couldn't even come close to what she was witnessing, she could put off efficiency and productivity to enjoy herself for a moment.

Lua didn't have the easiest of lives, even thousands of years after Armageddon Lua didn't relax as she had hoped to... there was simply too much to think about and study, as she started into the night sky... little did she know, that the world wasn't the same as it use to be, it was Earth... but many things changed.

Supernatural things.

But for now... all was right in the world.

Lua undid a latch on her suit, and her helmet came off with a loud thunk as it collided with the moss floor. She breathed in, and finally... out.

' I've won. '

Two days later.

Kris was recovering well beyond human standards, she was already healed enough to walk and explore the facility... Lua wasn't particularly concerned about Kris, she wasn't dangerous in any form to anything within the facility in her state anyways... and so, Kris wandered the near-infinite black metal hallways of the facility.

Lua was busy testing local wildlife and bacteria on the surface to see how it has genetically changed, it was an insane delusion that things would remain the same... and Lua was right to look into these changes, there were bacteria that fed off of seemingly nothing... continuing on, a nearby black lizard was found to have a poison deadly enough to supposedly kill large animals like elephants in an estimated 3mg of dosage.

This changes were something that seemed to have some spontaneity to it, some members of the black lizards contained no poison at all until captured and threatened... it was weird, and there were other cases too, just the other day Vulcan spotted a large wolf species that had a mane of vibrant red and a remarkable talent for being resistant to fire.

Before he could examine further though, the wolf attacked and had to be terminated. The data about fire resistance was found when Vulcan attempted to ' Fry the fucker ' after the wolf bit a dent into his arm.

Study of it's jaw and teeth show developing canals in the fangs with chemicals that if mixed could cause a volatile chemical reaction similar to greek fire, it's estimated bite power would of been 400 newtons of force... a very large number, especially for a wolf... though, based on the size this is likely an apex predator.

Study of the specimens skin seems to be closer to wrought iron than flesh, despite the fact fur miraculously manages to grow through this highly resilient metal. Vulcan rated it a 8/10 in terms of usability as armor... he also noted to send this to Lua to create armor out of this material for use over the exoskeleton worn while outside.

Another note, Kris has shown random bursts of healing through unexplainable means after resting. She refuses to explain this phenomenon, Lua speculates it is due to the fact Kris doesn't know about it herself... Lua made note to attempt to find out about this phenomenon.

Under normal circumstances Lua would of ordered to have her cut open by now, but the problem was that Kris was the only subject of her kind to of been located and/or captured.

It would simply be far too dangerous to experiment on her current condition, she could be used as a political token considering Kris had mentioned a society she was born from.

In the case of Subject 1A, it was terminated after exhausting all experiments. Lua had determined the species to be worthless and ' vermin ' and so, it was deemed for their extermination. Goblins have been put on a list for complete elimination, especially after Kris had determined them as ' Evil '. This had the implication they were a burden on society for a large period of time, Lua wouldn't allow that in her new world.

The facility, in it's first time ever, grew in size. Worker drones cleaned and thoroughly carved complicated mechanics straight into the stone of the facility's entrance pathway... the tunnel transformed into a grand stone hallway, the plan was to set up a culture for Reaper bacteria as to transform the entire hallway into a metallic killing chamber.

A large, mechanical door now bartered off the entrance to the facility which eased Vulcan's job slightly, now he could return to his security office and monitor cameras once more... one extra camera was installed in the hallway and one just outside the entrance door, but also included was a manually controlled turret.

Just in case.

The construction was loud though, and it was heard off nearly miles away. Some wildlife fled, while others where slightly intrigued by the noise... and further, it was at this point supernatural became revealed to Lua.

Lua had been pulled away from giving Kris a tour of the facility by Vulcan who lead her to the security room, pointing at a camera Lua was met with some form of amazement and horror.

There before here stood a being comprised entirely out of bone, no outside influence holding up the baffling creature let alone moving it... the thing had been attempting to break down the newly installed security door, the turret being ineffective against the creature.

Lua sat in complicated thought, using corpses as a form of defence wasn't unlikely in the animal kingdom, some species of Antlion larvae do this exact tactic to fend off against predators and act as extra mass for attacking... but underneath the mass of bone and rotted flesh was no creature.

' The creature is likely within the bone itself, manipulating the corpses like puppets for intimidation and strength. If it is like that, fire would be a weakness... and if that doesn't work, crushing will. '

After communicating these thoughts with Vulcan, they decided that the best option would be to lock it in the kill chamber with Vulcan himself... Vulcan could produce enough ambient heat to cause fire to flammable material with just ' medium ' activity. Vulcan had decided to extract some of the red wolf's chemical compounds and to pour it over himself... Grim Alloy couldn't burn, and he wouldn't have to worry about his circuitry either. Lua had made him capable of functioning within the center of an atomic blast.

To was Kris identified as a ' Bone Monolith ' a door opened to a pitch black room, it entered and as it it... the door slammed behind him, surrounding the creature in the black nothingness of shadow. Then came illumination, fire erupted from Vulcan as his molten glow heated the room. Vulcan ' cracked ' his metallic ' knuckles ', and with a chuckle began stomping towards the creature.

It didn't last long, it simply collapsed after the heat in the room became too much to bear much to Vulcan's disappointment, he finally found some form of opponent that might of been a good fight but unfortunately it was cut short. It was lucky for Lua though as she could dissect the bones and examine the anatomy of the creature.

Kris was still panicked by the sudden appearance of the creature, though she did not reveal why she was scared unfortunately. However, she did say one word.

' Necromancer.'

Lua dismissed it as just a lack of understanding of the creature, surely enough and explanation would come forth. Sure enough, it did. Residing within the bones was a bone white slug-like creature that was now dead from being fried by the air itself, the creature seemed to expanded to the entirety of the mass of bones... so... Lua devised it was some form of evolution of some sort of insect that reliably had access to corpses after Armageddon... like a slug version of a hermit crab, funny enough the corpses that made up the body was a mixture of Goblin corpses and Elf corpses.

Genetic tracing of the bones suggest date of death within the subjects were similar, roughly happening 10 years ago. Likely a battle between two subjects of both resulting in high casualties of both sides.

Though, Lua did question one thing... Kris had made mention of ' Necromancer ' which she knew to be someone who could raise the dead, but that could theoretically be true if said necromancer raised these creatures.

Could there be a ' Necromancer ' within these forests or was this an odd coincidence? And... what is with all these ridiculous creatures popping up near the facility? Was the whole world like this?
