Chapter 6 - Disciple of Magic

< Log Data - Elvin traits >

This log contains data of all supposed evolution that separate humans and elves.

An Elf's most notable trait is their advanced senses as they hold a heightened sense of sight, sound, and smell. Larger, pointer ears support a much more advanced and adaptable hearing that far surpasses humans, their eyes can ' hone in ' on far away objects, and most strangely they seem capable of ' Divergent ' smell that allows them to completely block out certain overpowering smells such as rotting carcasses.

These have likely evolved for the sake of avoiding predators and detecting prey, something very useful with their forested lifestyle.

An Elf's bones are slightly denser, but retain the same amount of mass normally associated with an average adult human albeit slightly weaker. Bone marrow samples produce additional anti-bodies within to prevent disease, making them ridiculously disease resistant. Their bodies have a much higher digestion rate and metabolism than even the strangest of human specimens, they can fully digest meals within an hour and burn the fat naturally within nearly 3 hours.

This might be a factor driving their natural speed and dexterity while also contributing to their massive appetite, though it doesn't seem that elves would die with a human diet however there might be underlying complications in health for these creatures under prolonged dietary malnutrition.

Data suggests elves evolved directly from Human ancestors, they have adapted to live a pseudo-nomadic lifestyle that involves hunting animals, harvesting groves of natural berries and fruits, and are additionally very fond of eating insects... though, subject 2A seems to decline consuming any form of meat. Supposed accounts from 2A state that ' Elves are naturally very Emphatic, some elders can even read minds! ' though, it has been confirmed that there is no sensory organ nor magical equivalent that suggests this ability.

Additionally, elves posses a crystalline structure that forms around the spinal region just behind the lungs, upon question it was revealed to be a ' Core ' that supplies magic into the body... further study of this organ shows pseudo-radioactive/photosynthetic particles that are drawn in and pushed throughout the body similar to a heart. Exposure of this organ to any foreign material results in heavy physical and psychological pain within the subject.

A small motor has been attached to subject 2A's spine in order to remotely trigger this sensation in dire need.

< End Log >

Midnight, March 2nd.

Kris has finished physical therapy and documentation as subject 2A, with this she has been given BETA class permissions within the base, in addition she has determined the location of ' Black Moss Capital ' AKA the elven civilization capital that resides within the outskirts of ' Fleetwood Grotto ' which happens to be the name of the forrest that sprung up around Lua's underground base.

The mountain area was unnamed despite its unnaturally large size, and under technicality of law it belonged to Lua as she had produced the first settlement at this location. However, with more knowledge about Lua's location came more understanding of the world itself further fueled by a map Kris recently made.

The entirety of the large mountain range were devoid of settlements due to the treacherous monsters that roamed the forest below, that meant Lua had easy claim to lots of free land nearby, and with a little renovation... Lua might be able to make a kingdom of her own!

Jokes aside, the land would be immeasurably profitable for various reasons that even Lua couldn't all list. Most important of this was entrances and exits from the main underground base, it wasn't safe to have just one exit and luckily there happened to be plenty of usable space.

Other than the new knowledge gained today about the surrounding area, Lua had made strides in analysing this so called ' Magic '... with the knowledge of the ' Core ' contained within subject 2A, Lua ( with assistance from a few spare A.I. and Drones ) had created a machine to detect and visualize the individual particles that made up the magical phenomena... this device wasn't perfect though, sometimes it would faultily measure the particles for no understandable reason... but, it was progress.

Combining the names of Magic and Molecule, Magicules were now visible and quantifiable on a semi-regular basis... their true nature and existence was still undefinable at best and completely irrational at worst, but observation proved their existence and for now that is all Lua needed.

More study into magic would no doubt be a focus in future endeavors, mastery of this subject may prove insurmountably advantageous, and to continue on about the subject of Magic... the small unidentifiable field of energy surrounding Lua's base was shown to have significant Magicule production, meaning it was magical in nature.

It was about time though, that Kris went home.

Lua and Vulcan would join her for research into elven civilization and more understanding of the world in general as well as scouting potential sources of fuel and food, something Lua had a great interest in.

In preparation for the meeting, she prepared a small list of things she would like to ( Purchase/Steal/Trade ) for... Corpses were a big interest as live samples of new creatures were already becoming hard to find, secondly she wanted to understand the ' Forging ' process for the Elven ' Living Wood ' that Kris had... in exchange, Lua considered Grim Alloy... small amounts, maybe some of the minerals found while excavating the entrance to her base would come in handy... though, it was unknown if Gemstones would still be considered valuable in this fantastical age.

Kris was leading the way towards elven civilization while Lua and Vulcan followed closely behind, Kris was ecstatic seeing Vulcan once more... as it had been since she was saved from goblins had she last seen him, but Vulcan was uninterested. Vulcan was constantly surveying and mapping as he treaded on with pride.

Lua had prepared a fancier outfit for this meeting, though that wasn't to say it wasn't practical. It was a black silken dress that mimicked gothic clothing, the dress started at her shoulders which were covered with a lacy silk... the dress filtered behind her like a cape, a front facing opening in the dress revealed spiky black metal boots and leggings that would be considered lethal in any other circumstance.

The boots were slightly heeled, making Lua appear to be a monstrous 6'4''. A giant compared to Kris, who stood at only 5'2''... but, still a bug compared to Vulcan who stood at 6'9''... and speaking of which, Vulcan had decided to dress up as well... instead of wearing a completely smooth headpiece he opted for one that was reminiscent of a gothic styled Ankh completed with his signature blazing glow.

Lua had also styled her hair, instead of letting it fall straight down onto her back or tying it up into a bun... she instead curled a select few gatherings of her front most hair into two spiral like shapes that rested upon her shoulders, she had elected to additionally wear her favorite earrings that were shaped like crescent moons.

With 5 hours of travel through the intermediary forest via Vulcan carrying Kris and Lua upon his back, eventually a small clearing developed before the trio. Trees became more sparse, but also much larger in size and especially dignity. Slowly building up into giant grandiose wooden pillars that towered beyond Lua's sight.

As she gazed upwards into the canopy above, she began noticing the signs of civilization. Small markings and outposts hide within the gathering of trees from top to bottom, and further in Lua took noticed of wooden rope bridges decorated with large leaves that connected the giant branches like a forested highway.

Small gatherings of people were spotted and likewise spotted the trio making their way now into a wooden walkway that lead up to a portion of the inhabited canopy, Lua noticed what seemed to be lanterns formed entirely out of leaves and twigs... small orange orbs floated within, illuminating the shaded path that the trio had now set foot upon.

It was like a whole new world, between this place and Lua's mountain there were no short of natural beauties that breathed life into the world... these trees wouldn't of survived in Old Earth, and it was surreal to see something so massive in nature.

The group continued their march throughout the civilization that clinged to the trees, small buildings began springing up into view... small butcher's shops, bakeries, clothing stores, armories... further in came houses, dining halls, and finally were two large buildings both labeled with large wooden signs.

' Hunter's Guild '

' Elder's Council '

Kris talked to lua about these two buildings, within the Elder's council is were a large majority of the economic leaders planned and decided on the future of the elven civilization, within the Hunter's Guild groups of elves trained for combat were assigned or tasked with various missions were their mercenary like skills could be put to use.

Kris was a daughter of one seat of the elder's council, normally she would be elected to start a business or train to take over her parent's responsibilities on the council later in life, but she instead elected to take a more active role in helping her community by taking on a task in the hunter's guild.

Coincidentally, nearly dieing and having to be saved by a third party counts as a failure. So, Kris had to report back to the hunter guild. Afterwards however, Kris would elect to lead Lua to the Elder's council for introductions and discussing ownership of the mountain Lua had made claim upon.
