Day 1
It's only been one day. One day! And I'm ready to run away. Here I was thinking I would be on vacation with my family. I imagined sweet paradise and peace full of laughs and happy tears, but noooooo. This family can't just let me enjoy a bit of rest!
I got here yesterday after 16:00pm and went to sleep right away, I was too tired and not really hungry because I'm still not used to flights. They make me anxious and grumpy and extra tired. To say they were very happy to see me would be an understatement, they literally jumped on me and now I've got a limping leg.
It's 11:00 am and they woke me up at 06:00 am. I thought I only had to do that when I was going to school not when I have to visit my family. Makes me extra Frumpy. All they wanted was breakfast as if they couldn't do it themselves. Lazy People!
As I'm still complaining my mom walks into the kitchen with a grin on a face. "You still complaining aren't you?" Mom asks but it's more of a known fact, she's just testing the waters which are pretty wild.
"No," I mumble
She chuckles and hugs me "Ndo mutuvhesa ngwana wanga." She says in a voice that makes me feel bad for attending school so far away from home. [I miss you way too much my child]
"Na nne. Mara athiri ndi minwaha yo vhalaho." I reply trying to ease the emotional tension between us. [Me too. But isn't it, it's only a few years.]
"I know. But home isn't the same without you, but it's much more open." She says looking around the house.
I look at her suspiciously because I know very well what she means ' more open '. "I know you mean Mr S coming through," I say with a grin raising my eyebrows.
"Ndi do mulwa ene ngwana. Just because you're in varsity it don't mean you allowed to act like my friend." She says with a straight face which I laugh at because that's our relationship, always playing around but serious when needed. But for now, it isn't.[I will beat you up child]
"Sorry mma. But how is he?" I ask interested

"He who?" She asks innocently.
"Mma??"
"What is it you want from me?" She asks exasperated
"Well since you asking, how about an extra R5000 into my allowance," I ask with a smile knowing very well the answer will be...
"Lol. No."
Well ouch. She even used 'lol'.
"Who are you and what have you done with my mother?" I ask looking horrified.
"I'm fantastic and just finally got some. So your mother is somewhere. Well idk and idc."
"Eeeew mom come on. And did you just say idk and idc!??" I ask laughing.
"Yup. See you later baby. I'll be back very late." She says walking out. Well, at least I know who she'll be with. Better then nothing I guess.
As I'm sitting alone in the I suddenly hear a loud knocking on my door followed by.
"Koko!!"
"Who is it?" I ask.
"Uexpecta ubani?
Vula man!
Phoyisa! Phoyisa! Hamba Na Maphorisa!" They sang the song.
And just by that, I knew exactly who it was. My best friends and thee craziest people I know. Only they would come over and cause such a noise. I open the door and look at them weirdly.
"Uhm. Who are you guys?" I ask pretending to not know them.
"Hey wena!" Ntombi shouts
"Nale hlanya guys." Zeigh states[here's a crazy person]
"Yini ngawe manje?" Nita responds [what's wrong with you now?]
"No girls it's Cape Town dick." And with that last comment, I broke my demeanour and laughed, only one person would say that so boldly. Una.
"Y'all are crazy! What are you doing here?" I ask as they come in and make themselves at home as always. Ntombi jumps on the couch, followed by Zeigh. Nita and Una sit on the floor and I sit on the one-man couch.
"Watchu mean what we doing here bitch?" Zeigh asks in an accent.
"We here for you sweets" Ntombi was more of the kind one out of all of us.
"I needed a place to run too," Nita replies with a shrug.
"Well, I'm here for the food," Una says. Of course, what else would she be here for?
" Why you running Nita?" I ask the question I know all of us want to know.
"Well, girlfriends been nagging bout spending time together and I just need some space." She says
"That's weird. Y'all are always together." Zeigh says
"Exactly what I've been trying to tell her. I'm always with her but I also need to spend time with my friends but she thinks I'm outchea hoeing around."
"Woah. Well, she seems clingy. Who that?" I ask since I don't know she has a girlfriend. I guess I've been out of the loop.
"Sasha," Zeigh and Ntombi say at the same time annoyed.
"Ohhh." Is all I say because to be honest Sasha is kinda a bitch. If you date her, you ain't got no freedom at all.
"Yeah. And I don't want to hear anything about her Rina." Nita spits out.
I immediately shrink in my seat because I was about to say something but I decided to defend myself. "But I wasn't going to say anything Ni."
Both Zeigh and Ntombi burst out laughing knowing that I'm lying... well I can't help it, I always want to protect my friends, does that make me a bad person?
"We all know that is a lie, Rina. You probably thinking of a different approach to the topic right now ain't you?" Una says looking at me directly and smirking. Argh, they know me too well.
"True," Ntombi says with a shrug. And Nita just stares at me as if to tell me to shut up. Which I do because well Nita is crazy!
"Well okay. Y'all want to move on to another topic then?" I ask kinda sad that we have to leave it alone. But it's okay.
"Yes!" They all shout and we just talk about everything. From school and how it's like being in a different province. If I have a boyfriend or anything like that. It's great just to bond with my girls again. I missed them way too much. Suddenly I hear a harsh gasp from Ntombi who's holding my phone.
"Rina. Who's this?" She asks looking at a picture of Ian and me. The one where he painted us out and asked me to be his girlfriend with. Wow and I thought I deleted all the pictures.
"Argh. Nobody. Delete it." I say rolling my eyes.
"What why! What happened?" Zeigh asks after the phone has circulated around.
"Well, he's hot!" Una says.
"Yeah well he's dead to me and I'd appreciate it if we never bring him up again okay," I ask and they know it's real since I'm shouting.
"Okay." They all agree.
And just after a few seconds, I hear a sharp inhale of breath. What is it now?
"Oh, My Fucking Gosh! If this isn't a gift from God then I know he isn't real!" Nto says.
"What, who you looking at bro? Nobody looks like a gift from God on my phone except for me." I say grinning at her.
"Uh uh, babygirl. You wrong. You next to a gift from God in your phone. He's a hunk. Shit!" Zeigh says.
I finally take the phone and take a look at what they're talking about. Oh, it's Khalil.
"Woah. Wait a minute. Why you blushing Rina?" Nita asks obviously being the only one who was paying attention to my reaction. I didn't even realize I was blushing until she mentioned it. Shit. Think of a lie Rina.
"I'm not blushing and that's my roommate," I reply with a shrug.
"Really? Roommate...you gon have to give us more than that to believe you, baby." Nita says not believing me
"But he is my roommate though," I say persisting because it's true. He is.
"Then why you blushing so hard?" Una asks
"I- I am not. It's just really hot in here." I say fanning my face.
"It's winter sweets," Ntombi says.
"And you're not wearing a jacket or anything hot," Zeigh adds.
"Which furthermore proves my theory that you like this guy." Nita multiplies.
"I do not! If anything I despise him. He is the most annoying human being I've ever met." I defend myself
"Well, that's not what the picture says. You two seem like you're in a relationship if anything." Una justifies Nita's statement. Fuck I lost, so I resort into the only thing that I know will save me.
"Who wants to go out and swim?" I ask.
"It's still winter sweets." Ntombi points out. Ahh well shit.
"So? Let's go shopping." I say smiling.
"Whatever Rina. You avoiding this just proves us right. I'm up for it anyway." Una says.
"Me too," Zeigh says
"Same here" both Nita and Ntombi shout out.
Well okay. At least that's over and done with. Now to the mall.
