Chapter 3 - New Skills

August decided to stay in the forest that night as it was dark, and he was also wounded. First, he skinned the Lycans for their fur. However, he could not use it to make a sleeping bag as they needed to dry out so they would not smell like rotting meat. He would need to hang the furs on a tree nearby. When he finished hanging up all the furs, he started to treat his wounds. Amazingly when he checked his wounds they were mostly healed. He guessed that the system had something to do with this.

By the time he had everything set up it was nearing midnight, so he quickly fell asleep. He slept for 6 hours before waking up just before the sun rose. When he got everything cleaned up around his campsite, he started to do his daily quest.

He finished the quest in 10 minutes and received his reward. August decided to save his points for a while so he could use them in a time of need. He suddenly realized that he forgot to see what his new skills were last night, so he quickly opened the screen.

Skills

Slash: 2x damage with a melee weapon upon activation

Dash: 1.5x faster for 10 seconds

August realized that he must have learned these skills while fighting the Lycans. He decided to try out his dash skill. He activated it and sprinted towards a tree about 400 feet away. He reached the tree in 5 seconds. Next, he took out his knife and slashed at a tree normally then he slashed the other side of the tree with the slash skill. His knife sunk around 2 times deeper into the tree. He decided to experiment with these new skills a bit more. He was considering ways to improve his strength when he remembered he had something called mana as well. He knew that mana was used by the mages and wizards of the world for spells however he had no idea how to use it. He started to look for ways to use mana. He tried many ways before he finally got it. He never tried to find mana inside his body he had always been looking outside so when he finally turned inwards, he instantly could see a sphere of blue and purple rotating inside his chest. At first this shocked him as he never sensed anything in his body but he quickly recovered and started to try to manipulate it.

It only took him a few minutes of practice before he could proficiently move the mana throughout his body. After becoming comfortable with doing so he started to try to move the mana to his knife. After trying it serval times and still failing he realized that he needed to circulate the mana back into his body after going through the knife. He tried this and succeeded on the first try.

Level Up!

August was happy to see he learned 2 new skills at once as well as leveling up. This means that by learning new skills he could level up. He stopped circulating the mana through the blade and sheathed it. He wanted to try to use his new skill Mana Manipulation. He slowly started to move mana through his body and pushed it out of his hands which he had aimed at a nearby rock. Suddenly a jet of bluish mana shot of his palms and hit the boulder pushing it back 10 feet as well as creating a dent in the middle of it.

He repeated this move multiple times before he ran out of mana. When his mana was depleted, he decided that he would start to head back to the village as his uncle was probably worried about him. He told his uncle that he was going on a walk while he had been in the forest for almost 2 full days. It took him around 10 minutes to get back to the gate with his new speed. The gate was already open, so he walked in with no problems. People recognized him immediately because of his unique features. Many people greeted him which he returned in kind. His house was near the center of the village as his uncle was one of people who founded it 30 years ago. When he knocked on the door and walked in, he heard a voice say "Where have you been? I thought you were just going on a walk?". He looked towards the direction of the voice to see his uncle sitting in his chair turned towards him.

"Sorry I got lost and decided to stay the night in the forest." he replied.

"You got lost? That's new." his uncle said with a chuckle.

"Yeah, I ventured too deep into the forest and couldn't find my trail back out in the dark." August said before opening the door to his room.

He walked in his room and sat down on his bed with a sigh of relief. August thought that his uncle would question him more but luckily, he did not. He reached over to his shelf and grabbed "The Fall of The Rai Empire" before opening it up to the page he left off on. The Rai Empire was a massive empire from ancient times that covered half of the continent. In fact, the Roan Kingdom was once part of the great empire. The Roan Kingdom was in the northern part of Asgeta. His village was situated between the Kolian Mountains to the east and the Endless Ocean on the west. The capital of the Rai Empire was a city that was now located in the kingdom south of Roan called Caldera. The Roan Kingdom was one of the biggest kingdoms on the continent. However, the Kingdom did not have an high population as it was cold in the winters and monsters frequently attacked. Many creatures exist on Terra including legendary existences such as Elves, Dwarves and even the mystical Dragons. The elves, dwarves and humans all had similar levels of power, but elves and dwarves are rarely seen because of where their cities are located. The elves lived deep in the forests of Asgeta and the Dwarves are mainly deep under mountains in their underground cities.
