Chapter 4 - The Knights Part 1

The Dragons were another matter altogether. Dragons are creatures with legendary levels of power but not many of them were left. The Historians and Scholars of the Kingdom estimates that only 20 dragons still exist in the world. When the Rai Empire still existed, it was said that more than 200 dragons existed. It seems that over the past 700 years the mighty dragons had fallen greatly in population while the humans had almost doubled in population. More than 100 million humans lived on Terra compared to the previous 60 million 700 years ago. He flipped to the last page of the book with anticipation.

The truth behind the fall of the Great Rai Empire is one of the greatest mysteries of the human race. Many great Historians have speculated what the answer could be. Some believe that monsters destroyed the empire, some believe that a coup was established. However, none of these answers would explain why most of the history behind the empires demise was erased.

The letters below that last line were disfigured for some reason. August thought that was odd but thought nothing else of it because there was nothing he could do. He set the book down back on the shelf and organized his thoughts. He did not realize what time it was while he was reading the book and he looked out his window to see it was dark out. After noticing that and suddenly feeling tired he laid down in his bed and fell asleep. The next morning, he got the notification for his daily quest and quickly finished most of it except for the 5-mile part. His 15th birthday was only 7 days away now. The birthday of the 15th year was especially important for young boys as it was the day, he would officially become a man and would have to leave from the protection of their parent's wings. Although he did not have parents, he still had his uncle, so it was the same for him. Most young men and women decided to move in next to their parents while a rare few chose to leave. August had been considering what to do for more than half a year now. At first, he wanted to stay in the village but recently since he found the orb which granted him the system he had been aching to go out and explore the world.

August decided to go out in the forest again today and finish his daily quest. He let his uncle know before leaving so he would not wonder where he went. He finished his run and was rewarded with the 3 points however he had decided the day before to save them up for when he need them. He then decided to try to learn some new skills. He repeated this process for 5 days and learned 2 new skills and leveled up a few times. The new skills he had learned were Mana Slash and Mana Skin. Mana Slash was a blade of mana that was sharp enough to chop a tree down. Mana Skin was a defensive skill where he would cover his skin in a thin layer of mana and condense it. Mana skin was highly effective against magical attacks but held minimal protection against physical attacks. He opened his status menu.

From what he had seen his mana recovered at 5 points per hour. This was far too slow to August, so he wanted to try to find a way to recover his mana faster. Since he could now easily control the flow of mana in his body, he had a hunch as to how to achieve faster recovery. He sat down in a position with his legs crossed and his hands in front of him and started to sense the mana floating in the air. He then started to suck in that mana and purify it so it would be able to merge into his body. Then he moved the pure mana into his core. Ding!

Skill Learned

Meditation: Allows the user to recover mana at a rate of 10 points per minute.

He opened his eyes after hearing the ding to see a screen pop up. He cheered after seeing the message and stood up. August was in his room and his uncle was not home as he had a business trip to go on. His uncle was the only Blacksmith in town, so he was popular with the village people. His shop was at the backside of the house so August could occasionally hear hammering long into the night. He used to hate the sound but now he found it soothing and it helped him sleep. August was lazily laying in his bed when he started to hear shouts from outside.
