Chapter 8 - Child of light part 3

Socrates gone mad

Uri was sitting outside the Oikos on a rock, enjoying the sunrise.

" Now, why would you be up this early? Did Neoptolemos keep you up all night? "

Uri turned around and saw Diogenes.

" No, I just wanted to enjoy the sunrise " said Uri who turned and look towards the horizon yet again.

Diogenes just looked at Uri.

Diogenes then went and sat on the same rock that Uri was sitting on.

Both of them just sat there, and neither one said anything for awhile but then Uri said

" May I ask a question? "

" Go ahead "

" Why does chaos and conflict exists? "

" Why does birds fly? Why does fish swim? And why does conflict exists? The simple answer is: because that is how things are. No living creature could exists without war and battle "

" I would say that a world filled with love and peace, would make everything better "

" How so? "

" A world without conflict would mean that war would no longer exists, parents would be able to see their children grow up and children would be able to watch their parents grow old and die a peaceful death surrounded by their loved ones "

" I see, does this peaceful world of yours also involve the gods? "

" Of course, everyone has a right for peace " said Uri without hesitation.

" I see, but if I can give you my personal opinion, I would say that a peaceful world would never work " said Diogenes.

Uri just looked at Diogenes.

" Are you saying that a world of peace is impossible? " said Uri.

" Dear child, there is something you need to understand, as I said: beings, especially humans, can not exists without conflict. What you also need to know is that conflict can be found in many forms, parent and child arguing, lovers disagreeing.

There are even times, when you just look at someone and for some unknown reason, you just feel hate or irritation towards that individual " said Diogenes while still looking at the sunrise.

Diogenes then looked at Uri.

Diogenes could see that Uri was about to give up on hope.

Diogenes then said

" I will however say, that once in a blue moon, extraordinary people will pop out of nowhere, people who will show mankind that hope and tranquility can be something we can achieve "

Uri looked at Diogenes and Diogenes could feel a warmth from Uri.

" You know, all you talk about is that one must live life to the fullest, where did all this come from? " said Uri with a smile.

Diogenes giggled.

" Even a old fossil like myself can speak some words of wisdom once in a while "

Uri and Diogenes sat on the rock near the Oikos, both of them enjoying the sunrise and enjoying the wind singing a song for them.

That song was then interrupted by a crying baby.

" It seems that your brother misses his big brother " said Diogenes.

" It seems so " said Uri with a smile.

Uri stood back up.

" Are you coming back inside? " said Uri.

" Not yet, I will sit here for a couple of minutes " said Diogenes.

" Very well, just don't stay out for too long, a old fossil like yourself can easily catch a cold " said Uri with a smug smile.

Diogenes giggled yet again.

" It seems that there can also be some entertaining form for conflict "

" It seems so " said Uri.

Uri was about to walk back inside the Oikos.

" What was this quest of yours? " said Uri.

" My quest is to find a true human " said Diogenes.

Uri smiled and then said

" I hope you succeed "

Uri then walked back into the Oikos.

Diogenes looked towards the sun which had a warmth like Uri.

Diogenes then said

" I may have already succeeded "

Diogenes then stood back up.

" I wonder what's for breakfast today, I hope it is Saganaki " said Diogenes who walked his tired old body back to the Oikos.

Bronze bulls

" Do you think that this is wise? " said Nike.

" What do you mean? " said Uri.

" I get that you were sent to get some ingredients for dinner but why did you choose to go alone? Apollo could send something else after you " said Nike.

" But I am not alone, you and Magni are with me " said Uri.

Nike was quiet.

" He got you good " said Magni.

" ANYWAY. We should get ready for the worst " said Nike.

" Come on. What are the chances that Apollo will send someone to attack now " said Magni.

" Run! There are gigantic bulls coming out of the sea! " yelled a random citizen.

" You were saying? " said Nike.

" Right, don't tempt fate…. " said Magni.

Uri ran towards the beach and saw the two giant bulls.

" Those are the Khalkotauroi bulls " said Nike.

Uri looked at the two fire breathing bulls.

Uri then took off his ring and threw it towards the two bulls.

" Please help us, Athena! "

The ring transformed into the Athena Promachos.

Athena and the bulls were standing on the beach of Pydna.

After a few seconds, the battle finally begun.

Athena held her own against the two bulls but the problem was that she was outnumbered.

Athena was now struggling against the bulls.

" Oh no, they got her pinned down " said Nike.

" I must help her " said Uri.

" Wait, what? " said Magni.

Uri now ran towards the battle.

" Uri! Are you out of your damn mind! You are like a pebble running towards mountains! " said Nike.

" I must do something! " said Uri.

" Fine kid, in that case, I shall grant you strength " said Magni.

" ….. Fine, I shall grant you victory " said Nike.

Uri ran up towards one of the bulls.

Uri clenched his fist.

Uri then punched one of the bulls.

The bull was sent flying into the sea.

The second bull looked at Uri, and it was at that moment Athena saw her opening.

Athena ran her spear straight down the bulls head.

The two bulls turned into dust and vanished.

Uri looked up at his friend, Athena and Athena looked down at her friend, Uri.

Uri smiled and then Uri said

" Thank you "

Athena transformed back into a ring and returned to Uri.

Uri put the ring back on and returned to his chore.

Uri finally returned to the Oikos where he was greeted by his family with open arms.

Even Neoptolemos stretched out his small arms.

Later, at Mount Olympus.

" Apollo, why don't you go on a vacation? " said Zeus.

" No " said Apollo.

" Fine, then I guess that you won't take Pan up on his challenge "

Apollo looked at Zeus.

" I hear that Pan has been training a lot and rumor has it, that Pan may be even MORE better than you at music " said Zeus with a smile.

Apollo grabbed his harp and then said

" I will be back "

Apollo then left Mount Olympus.

" That should keep him busy for awhile " said Zeus with a smile.
