Chereads / The Wolf and Fair One / Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

"Father, is everything alright?" Prince Brioc asked his father with worry in his hazel eyes. "Yes my son, I am simply thinking is all. I am doing the right thing for our people, you know that Brioc I would never put your sister in harms way." "I know father, and Tegwen knows this too. We both have a duty to our country and our countrymen, even if it is something we do not agree with." Brioc stated, the king chuckled lightly at his son's words. "Very wise my son, you are to be wed soon as well. However, I fear that your sister wont be there." King Trahaearn stated, Brioc smiled lightly, "I know father, but she will be there in my heart." "That's my boy. Come let us go find your sister and mother to see how they fair." King Trahaearn stated as he stood up along with his son.

"Ulf, are you sure you want to go through with this? Your mother and siblings will not like it." Sigurd asked. "Yes, are you sure you want to bring a Christian home?" Another of Ulf's men asked agreeing with Sigurd. Ulf stopped walking and turned around to look at the man, he was shorter that he was, his hair was scraggily and long, blonde colored and blue eyes. "This is what we need Cnut (K Nut). Besides, my siblings and mother will be fine and will get used to the idea that I am married. Any other questions about my judgement?" Ulf snapped at both Sigurd and Cnut. Both men shook their heads, neither wanting to say anything else for fear that Ulf will kill them or beat them to the brink of death. "Good. Now let us go and start the preparations, I also need Tora (T ora) and Alvilda (ahl vil da) to help my future bride with things that she needs to have done when the ceremony begins." "Of course, brother." Sigurd replied. Ulf nodded as he made his way to the camp outside of Cilgerran Castle.

Ulf could feel the tension in the air between not only his crew but also the Welsh guards. They were not used to having Vikings there walking around, let alone bargaining with their king. He wondered how his new wife would fair around his people let alone the tradition of the wedding. Years and centuries Vikings and Christians, even the Rus hated each other and their existence. To them their religion was right where others were wrong and vice versa. He then started to think of how his family would react when he returns home. Ulf looked at his people working and preparing for anything, he smiled before turning to one of his men, "Geir (Gayr), I need you to get animals for the sacrifice for the wedding." Geir nodded as he bowed his head a little bit and made his way to the people of Ceredigion to get a sow, goat, and a boar or a horse whichever he could find. Geir never spoke a word since his wife and child left this world; Ulf felt for the old man, his mother was distraught when the news of his father's death came to light, it truly is a sad thing to lose those you love.
