Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

Before Wedding Ceremony

Once Tegwen got out of the bath she was dried off by Mary only, and she wasn't sure where the other two servants went but didn't ask. A knock was then heard at her door as Mary was drying off Tegwen's hair some more, "Come in." Tegwen shouted. The door opened and two women who looked like the Vikings walked in. "Hello your highness, Ulf had sent us to help you." One of them said. "We see you have already washed away your maiden status." The other replied as they both walked closer. "My name is Tora, and this is Alvilda." Tora stated as she pointed to the woman with stormy gray eyes who stood next to her. "Well met, you are the shield maidens that Ulf mentioned." Tegwen stated. "This is Mary she will be of help as well." She said as she smiled at the two women.

Mary helped Tegwen with her light blue dress, it had lavender flowers embroided on the bottom of the dress. Alvilda started to do Tegwen's hair while Tora grabbed the small crown that was brought the previous night as she placed it gently onto her head. Tegwen's hair was done, multiple braids in her hair including one that looked like a fish tail. Alvilda moved her hair to the side draping it over her shoulder. Tegwen slipped on her blue shoes and stood up once the door opened, revealing it to be her mother. "Tegwen you are beautiful, and the crown suits you, my love." "Thank you, mother." Tegwen replied as she gave her a hug. "The crown or what we call a kransen it is the symbolizes the bride's virginity. Once removed it will be stored for your future daughters." Tora explained as she brought over a small yet beautiful crown of flowers. "This will take its place on your way to your future husband." She continued.

Tegwen couldn't help but look at how beautiful the small crown was, it had small white and even medium flowers along with blue, and red on other flowers. "Thank you, Tora, it is beautiful." "You will be the envy of all the women in the camp and even at home." Alvilda chimed in as she smiled truly happy to see this wedding happen. "Ulf will certainly be surprised." Mary giggled as she handed Tegwen a small boquet of flowers. "Come my dear, it is time for you to be wed." Queen Alaw stated as she looked at her daughter with glassy eyes. Even though she gave Tegwen a smile, she knew her mother was sad to see her only daughter be married to a Viking let alone to anyone at all. Tegwen followed her mother out of her chambers to be followed by Mary, Tora, and Alvilda.
