Chapter 10 - Chapter 9

Tegwen bid goodnight to Ulf with a smile on her face, and her cheeks tinted pink. She could not help but to smile as she made her way to her chambers. Maybe this would not be as bad as she first thought. As she entered her room, the moonlight shined through the window cascading the room in a pale blue light, she could not get Ulf out of her mind, his long dark brown hair braided back, it was long and very intriguing. She noticed he had markings on part of his shoulder blade leading to the base of his neck. His piercing dark brown eyes reminded her of the sand when it was wet from the waves. He towered over her figure and had broad shoulders.

Ulf certainly looked like a warrior, and she had to admit he was quite good looking. She undressed to dress in her night clothes and as she got under the covers she could not help the feeling of a storm within her fighting her happiness and yet anger towards her father for selling her off as property. Then again she always knew that she would have to marry someone not of her choosing. 'I wonder if father told him of my original betrothment or if I even had one in the first place.' She thought to herself as she stared out the window before slowly drifting off to sleep. Unbeknownst to her, Ulf also could not keep his mind off of her either. She had fair skin and looked very soft, part of him wanted to reach out and touch her; he knew that it would possibly scare her. He also wanted to know why she agreed so suddenly but, at the same time relieved that she did not cause a war by refusing.

The next morning the king woke up before everyone else and enjoyed the quiet for once, he loved his family and country, but sometimes the quiet of a brand-new morning was simply amazing and peaceful. As the king walked down the halls silently he could not help but wonder if what he had done the day before was the right thing. Sure, Tegwen accepted like the obedient daughter she is, but he could see the sadness and anger within her eyes. Her smile never reached her eyes as they once did, he knew that she would not speak her mind and hold her head up high. "Father?" A soft voice said interrupting his thoughts. He turned around and looked at his daughter, her hair braided down and wearing a soft pink dress embroided with daffodils on the bottom. "Daughter, you are up early." He smiled as he walked closer to her. She closed the gap between them as she wrapped her arms around her father. Trahaearn chuckled and sighed as he held his youngest child.

"I wanted to ask you something." Tegwen says as she breaks the silence and then slowly gets out of her fathers hold and looks at him. She can see the gray hair coming through his beard and hair, he smiled gently. "Of course, what is it my little dove?" He asked looking into her bright green/blue eyes. "Well, I was wondering if my engagement to Cadell of Powys will be voided or has already been voided?" "It was voided a long time ago." "May I ask why?" "His father signed another agreement with the king of Gwynedd at the same time as he and I did, so I pulled out of the arrangement as he voided it the moment he was offered a marriage alliance with Gwynedd." "Oh, I see." "Why the question my dear?" "Because I get married in 2 moons time and didn't want it to effect my marriage to Ulf if I was to be given to another." Tegwen replied honestly, her father nodded and offered her his arm which she happily took. "Well, you no longer need to wonder, come let us go to the gardens hmm." He stated, his daughter nodded eagerly; they continued to walk to the gardens.
