Chapter 4 - Chapter 3

Yelling. Human voices.

Ōkami squints his eyes, careful not to get spotted.

As far as he could tell, it was still dark as he looked up at the dark filled sky; looking at the scene

Before him, he could see the man that had saved him from death, and the man who had almost killed him.

"Why are you helping these things Mark?

Especially this Mut, their completely useless and don't know how to protect us, and how can he even be called top species if he doesn't even know how to communicate with us."

Archen says as he is not happy that Mark is protecting that beast.

Mark shakes his head as he crosses his arms, obviously disagreeing with the man.

"You'll never understand, will you? Not all humans protect other; it's the same thing with them;

They don't need to protect us if they don't even know us."

Ōkami listens close to the conversation; Mark did make a good point; we may be superior species, but that doesn't me we would go around saving random people.

All Animals got anxious around humans after what had happened centuries about; why wouldn't this man get it through that think skull of his?

"I don't care if you like these creature or if you are on their side; but these things shouldn't have ever existed. Humans are supposed to be the superior species, not them."

Archen sighs trying to contain himself as he speaks once more, "he is the one who ruined humanity, he will ruin the chance for us to get what we want and what is best for us."

He looks at Mark's eyes with all seriousness as Archen slowly reaches behind his back.

Ōkami gets up slowly, still hurt from the incident just a few hours ago, knowing what Archen's intentions were as the orange wolf goes and steps in front of Mark.

"Oh look who decided to wake up, you think you'll be able to protect him, that's funny.

It's a really shame that death is always happening around you, Ōkami, or should I say Hikari."

Ōkami looks at the man with a shocked expression; how did he know my name, as a matter of fact, my real name. I've never met this man in my life.

Ōkami's eyes soon start to glow as he stands on his hind legs, going to his full height of 5'9".

Archen pulls out a gun making sure to show off what kind of bullets he had ready for him.

Pointed bullets, those should make it through my skin just fine.

Just as Archen shoots, it's like the world around Ōkami slows down as he acts without thinking.

A sudden force-field is around Ōkami and Mark as the bullet she'll shatters upon impact;

As a deep voice is soon heard from the animal.

"Don't you ever think of hurting this human; I am the protector of this world; I am the balance between worlds, and I will not let you stand in my way."

The words just seem to flow right out of Ōkami's mouth as if he had been speaking the human language his whole life.

Force field? Is that my ability? None of my parents have had an ability like this one.

Archen's mouth goes agape, stunned from what had just happened; he has never heard an animal speak the human language as if it was nothing.

Not long after, Archen takes his leave, not wanting this situation to get any more out of control than it already was.

Mark slowly turns towards Ōkami as his mouth goes agape.

"Ōkami, you can speak, I mean how! Your kind doesn't even know our language; why haven't you been talking to me?"

Ōkami gives the curious man a shrug, not know what had precisely happened himself.

"I guess it just happened; the words came out on their own. To be honest, I've always wanted to learn your language."

The orange wolf says to the man with a big smile growing on his face.

Mark laughs at Ōkami's excitement, "Hey Ōkami, can we talk for a bit? I want to understand a bit what Archen was talking about."

Mark says with honesty in his voice as he looks into Ōkami's milky white eyes.

The orange wolf looks at the man in shock but soon nods, knowing it wouldn't be good to keep secrets now.

So Ōkami speaks the truth and nothing but the truth.

"My mom knew I was special the day I was born; she gave me a name relating to it, she knew I was the top species and that I was to protect not only my kind but your kind too mark. I was meant to be the stabilizer of our two worlds."

The orange wolf sighs as he looks down at the ground as Mark speaks up.

"Hikari, that's your real name? Why did you change it to Ōkami." Curiosity in his voice, wanting to know the real background about this unique animal.

"Yes, Hikari is my real name, meaning light; my mom always knew I would be the light of everyone's world like I was in hers. I changed my name because I was scared to except the truth myself."

Tears start to fall from Ōkami's eyes and down his cheeks just thinking about his parents not being here with him anymore.

Mark knew what he had thought as he scooter closer to the animal in comfort, giving a side hug to Ōkami.

"Hey I know what can make you stronger, well stronger than him. All I need to do is mix other animals genes into yours to obtain their traits."

The orange wolf stares at mark in shock,

Becoming stronger,

He looks down at his lap as he starts to play with his nails. That would help a lot, especially if I run into that man again.

Ōkami gives Mark a simple nod with a smile on his face once again; by now, it should be early morning.

So no humans should be out this early.

"We should be able to sneak; no humans should be out at this hour. It just depends how far your house is."

Mark looks at him, shocked at how he know all of this information;

Oh right, he got caught on the roof, guess he did that all the time.

——————————————————————————

They both cleaned up the area they were staying in, making sure not to leave anything behind.

As soon as both of them enter the city, they immediately make their way to Mark's house.

As Ōkami has predicted, no one was seen on the streets; so it was easy to make it to Marks house.

"Alright, we're here, Ōkami, hurry up, okay we need to be quick."

Ōkami nods understanding the situation they were in; they soon enter a somewhat neat house.

The orange wolf soon freezes as he sees another human sitting on a squishy, soft-looking thing

Mark new that looks on Ōkami's face, so he hurries over to his sister.

Ōkami's eyes start to glow, but mark interrupts him, " hey Ōkami, she's fine; this is my sister; she won't hurt you, I promise." The orange wolf calms down as his eyes go back to their milky white color.

The girl that seems to be Marks sister introduces herself, " well I'm hi, I'm Caitlyn, and I'm Marks sister, as mark says.

I've never see your species before; you look so cool."

Ōkami looks at the girl shocked.

A girl was interested in my kind?

Both of them get cut off as Mark signals to his sister that he has to get to work with Ōkami.

Nodding, she lets both of them past as they enter a lower floor into the house.

"Alright this is usually where I have all of my lab equipment; I just need you to lay on this bed so I can get this tube into ya,"

Mark says with a casual tone; Ōkami looks at him confused.

"Tube?"

The orange wolf asks with curiosity in his tone, obviously nervous about doing this.

"It so the genes can transfer to your body, they can't transfer any other way. Don't worry this won't hurt you at all."

Ōkami nervous but soon nods as he falls asleep,

Letting the darkness take over him.

——————————————————————————

Ōkami soon wakes up feeling much different than before, " well, Ōkami, how do you feel? The genes changed your body a bit, but honestly, you look good, oh and you should be able to stand on two feet easier now."

Ōkami looks down at himself to see his feature did indeed look different.

"I guess I like my new look; hey Mark, if you don't mind, I'd like to change some of my covering as well."

Mark looks at him with a smile and nods, happy that the wolf was enjoying himself.

Ōkami gets all of the materials he need as he soon changes his fur to his liking.

"Hey, not to be rude or anything, but what is so special about this color."

Mark says as he points to the mint green color.

"It's my moms fur color, as my dad was orange. I wanted to remember them in a good way.
