"Phew, I finally made it!"
Ray stepped down from his plane with a bit of sweat on his forehead. This was the first time he'd ever travelled on a plane before. He was never the kind of person to leave his house in the first place, so travelling was out of the question.
'Though I could easily escape from a crashing plane and even save all the people on board that was just too scary. How did normal humans ride that thing in the past?'
He shivered a bit and tried to compose himself.
'What would people say if they saw the famous Magic Lord frightened by a bunch of measly aeroplanes. I need to get it in my mind that I am no longer a magical human, I can now cast magic and fly!'
If something was for sure, it would be Ray internally and always thanking the Dark Aristocrat for giving him the system.
"Anyway I still have to deal with a major problem since I've gotten here and all, and that is...
"... the language bridge!"
All he could hear was freaking "ching chong ching"!
'Sigh, I should have asked the deputy head for more help, how could such a situation escape my attention?!' Ray cursed himself and wailed in misery on the floor of the airport, making people inwardly insult the person that haphazardly let a madman in.
"Is it too late to ask for help?" Ray really wanted to ask for help, but his pride wouldn't allow him to ask for help from anyone, not even the prestigious deputy head of the USSO.
'I guess I'll be on my own for now.'
If the system were still sentient, he imagined he would say something like this;
[Hahaha, weren't you a critic for various Chinese novels, you should have learnt mandarin by now, right? So, why do you seem so hopeless in this country?]
'Che, I've only learnt some words, not enough for conversation.'
However, Ray completely overlooked the fact that this was a new era, and that China would be brimming with people from other countries, and even more people from china that learnt how to speak English.
It all became clear to him when he heard a voice speak to him in English.
"AH, it's you. I will get my revenge!"
The voice's words were unintelligible, and it only seemed like trash in Ray's ears.
"Huh, what're you talking about?"
He turned around to the direction the voice was coming from, and aside from the bustling air of the airport, he saw nothing.
"Hey, are you ignoring me? I'm over here!"
The tiny voice became louder, but Ray still wondered where it was coming from.
"Heh, must be some dumbass trying to lure me away and steal my stuff. Heh, these criminals should get a job."
He complained to himself about the poor state of the world and turned around, wheeling his luggage with him. The poor fellow trying to get his attention was totally ignored, taken for a criminal stalking by some corner, ready to mug him.
"Hey, come back here you bastard, I'm talking to you!"
Ray swivelled and turned to see a young... man dwarf person?
"Uhh... do I know you from somewhere?"
"Of course you know me!"
"I'm sorry, I really don't ever remember meeting you before, can you reintroduce yourself?"
Though Ray smiled, his words were like a piercing arrow shot in the man's chest.
"Cough, fine. I am Robert Quintell III, and I am also one of the victims of your 'heroic' act to destroy monsters as you called it."
The man called Robert scowled frustratedly and looked up to Ray to see his expression.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to hurt you, please let me mentor you as compensation." This was the scene Robert pictured in his mind from the start.
However, expectations will forever be different from reality.
"Oh, my apologies. Here's $100,000 as compensation, can I leave now?"
Ray dumped a huge sum of cash in the man's and began walking away without a single more word.
"Hey, come back, you're meant to take me in as your disciple!" The pitiful man begged till he was on his knees, even going as far as bawling his eyes out.
"Dammit, stop crying you're causing a scene here!"
Ray looked around to see if there were people looking at them and tried to pacify the man-child begging and crying in front of him.
"Sob... do you know how hard it was, dodging those missiles launched at me... boohoo. I even had trauma and nightmares every night since that day... sob... sob!"
His crying got so out of hand that it alerted the guards, who felt quite hostile towards the two foreigners disturbing the peace of their environment.
"What? I can't quite get what you're saying. Do you guys speak English?"
They took his attempts at communications as threats and eventually threw the both of them into...
... prison!
. . .
"Sigh, I just got into this country and I was arrested because of some little commotion caused." Ray sighed to himself and tried to bring himself from hitting the walls of the prison.
'If it weren't for that dwarf-man, this wouldn't have happened. And what was he talking about anyway, all I can remember is his name; Sherbert Queen III, right?'
Even if the prison stay didn't cause any unnecessary problems, it still overly complicated some stuff.
"Oi, get up!"
Upon hearing the familiar, he couldn't but become more invigorated. This stay in prison would finally end!
A pink-haired european man appeared before him and smiled strangely.
'Shit, I've heard rumours about China's prisons before. Does this mean they're gonna...'
The man smacked a metal rod against his palm and the smile on his face became more clear. That was clearly a sinister smile.
'...torture me!'
"So, the officers said you were saying something about 'crime'? Care to talk about it?"
"This is a huge misunderstanding. Just give me a chance to explain a bit." Ray spoke with a nervous smile on his face, trying to offset this misunderstanding.
The european man' smile did not change, but it gradually became smug.
"Go on, explain yourself."
