Chapter 37 - Misunderstanding

"Go on, explain yourself."

The man's sly smile seemed strange and made Ray nervous.

"Well, it happened like this..."

He explained everything that happened to the European man who came over to interrogate him. When he was done, the man clutched his face and laughed out loud.

"Hahahahaha! Do you expect me to believe you?!"

Ray looked at the man confusedly. Was anything he said wrong?

"Want to know what's wrong? For one, there is no way someone who looks like you could command electronics or machines. I wouldn't even leave you with my laptop not to talk of missiles. Just look at a giant like you, leaving you with machines is dangerous!"

The pink-haired man said with a sense of pride at his somewhat "smart" analysis.

"But it's really true, you can go ask Sherbert!"

Ray protested in vain, and completely disregarded Robert who lay in the other cell.

"Oh, I already did. And he told me the same thing. Criminals like you should come up with better lies if you want to bomb a place. These dumb stories are getting a bit boring."

The man waved him off like a fly and walked off.

"When you're ready to talk, you can shout my name anytime."

Ray pushed his arm through the bars of the cell and called out to the man.

"Wait!"

"Huh?"

"I don't know your name."

"..."

"I am... Inspectah Flash!"

'What a weird name.'

"Oh, Inspectra False, got it!"

The man who called himself Inspectah Flash found himself hating this new guy more and more. But if he didn't contain his anger this time, he would probably lose his job.

"Hmph, just remember to come when you're ready to confess your criminal acts. If you do it swiftly, we might just remove three or four years off your sentence."

Inspectah Flash walked away, feeling proud that he managed to conquer his anger and Ray in his place at the same time.

'That guy doesn't seem like the kind of person who'd give up on his argument just like that. I think it's best I call that 'guy' to handle this so-called 'Magic Lord'.'

Inspectah Flash pulled out his phone from his pocket and pressed the speed dial button.

. . .

"Eh, who the hell is this?" A gruff man's voice held the ringing phone to his ear and insulted the person on the other line.

"Hahaha, You don't have to be like that Mr Torture King, I just came to seek your help."

"Ah, it's you, Respecta Fash."

"Cough, the name's Inspectah Flash."

"Did I tell you that mattered?" The man's voice became scary in an instant and Inspectah Flash had no choice but to step down.

"Let's put that behind us. Anyway, I have a favour to ask of you."

"It better not be anything stupid, or I'll torture you in the worst ways human minds cannot possibly imagine!"

"Ah, of course not Baroka. It's about a man who arrived at the airport-" If anything, Baroka wanted to get this assignment done and over with quickly, and this weirdo across the phone was a slowpoke in summarizing things

"Get to the point!"

"Well, the problem was that some other fellow named Robert accused this man of nuking him with some mini-missiles and wanted compensation. The one named Robert does not have a questionable status, however, the other man who claims to be the 'Magic Lord' is relatively unknown to travelling"

Baroka furrowed his brows and cut off the phone.

'If that guy really is the Magic Lord, then I'll offer my full respect. But if he indeed is an imposter... then I'll kill him!"

. . .

A few hours passed and Ray waited in his cell patiently. This was the first time he'd been taking for a criminal and left to rot in a cell.

'Hehe, I studied a bit of law on the internet and it states that they should not hold a person in a cell for more than 24 hours.'

Ray was confident in the law but... he completely forgot he was in another country entirely. And it was China for that matter...

"Are you ready to confess yet, 'Mr Magic Lord'?"

A familiar voice interrupted his thoughts and ontinued smugly.

"You finally came back Inspeckta Frash-O!"

Inspectah Flash didn't know whether it was intentional or not, but at this point he cared little about his intentions. He hated this fellow to the bone!

'This is the worst one yet. Luckily I hired the services of Baroka. With the skills he gained after His Descent, he is able to instill far worse torture than physical or even mental torture!'

If there was anything Frash-O prided in, it was his ability to scout for talent. He'd noticed Baroka's talent even before His Descent, he raised and supported the poor street rat into a top-class nation-level asset.

"Don't worry, I know you're not ready to surrender, however, you might change your mind if you find about who I hired." He expected some sort of reaction from Ray instead all he got was a long and blank stare.

"So... who is it?"

"Sigh, f*cking weirdo..." Flash spoke under his breath and continued telling himself that Baroka would deal with him in due time.

"Okay, who's the person you told me to torture?!" A loud and gruff voice sounded out from behind him and Flash couldn't help but yelp in excitement.

A tall man with black hair and eyes came in. He absent-mindedly dusted some dirt off his hawaiin t-shirt. For a nation-level torturer he looked quite lax.

"Finally, you came!"

"Yeah, yeah. Just tell me who I'm meant to torture, is it that short fellow over there?"

"No, no. It's the other guy who looks a bit tall."

Baroka looked into Ray's cell anticipatedly and found what he expected from the start.

"It really is..."

The interrogator's mouth parted slightly, and his eyes bulged with shock.

"Oh my gosh, it really is the Magic Lord, squeee!!"

". . ."

Frash-O slowly turned his head towards where Baroka stood and it seemed like the whole building froze at the moment.

Baroka ignored all this and walked towards the cell, hands outstretched.

"May I shake your hand, sir?"

"What is this supposed to be, Baroka?" Inspecta Flash spoke cautiously, knowing the end of his career would come next.

"I should be asking you that, but I'll answer your question for you. I think this is..."

"A misunderstanding."
