Chapter 1 - Taunt

"Did you truly love her?" the shine in his eyes was gone, the thing left is the fire of fuming anger.

His words echoed through this silent battleground. One body after another, an unavoidable scent of blood and gunpowder, and the lives of the soldiers and the wealth of the rich were wasted in this meaningless war.

He took his sword as support and struggled to stand on his feet. Enduring the pain of grief and battle scars, he said, "Answer my question."

A battle between the good and the bad was caused by a tragic love story. There has never been a nation that benefited from prolonged warfare.

"No," a short response leaving the questioner unsatisfied. He raised his head staring at the sky and getting occupied with a thought.

The injured man spits the blood in his mouth and used his remaining strength to grab this aloof man's shirt, "You have always answered with brief replies to the point where huge misunderstandings are made... What are mother's last words?"

He shifted his gaze to the angry man and forwardly stared at his eyes. At the same time, he lets go of his grip before repeating his question.

"Την αγαπώ, αλλά όχι στο σημείο που θα θυσιάσω τη ζωή μου για τη δική της."

He shaped his hands into fists when he breathed deeply. He looks at him, "I would dearly place a bruise on your face however I am exhausted."

"As per your mother's request, let bygones be bygones, and if you want, you can forget that I ever existed."

Furious, he clenched his jaw and yelled, "You were the cause of all mother's suffering! And you, telling me that shit? Fuck your apology, even if you gladly go to Tartarus and live there for how many millennia. What you have done to us is more hellish than any torture."

...

..

.

"I know."

Two words that gave an impact on his anger. He grits his teeth as veins bulged on his forehead and shaking fists.

"Damn it!" he flings his sword in a random direction and staggers as he says, "I have never met anyone as infuriating as you!"

"The youth do not have respect for their elders. When they are disciplined, they misunderstand, get annoyed, raise their voice, and run to their comfort zone," he said his statement in a calm yet wise voice; like a certain old man.

Nicholas nods his head in agreement then wakes up from his stupor, "Hold on a moment. We are yet to finish this conversation!"

— PROLOGUE ENDS

A pair of two goddesses sat on opposite sides of a chessboard with serious expressions— although losing, she is as calm as the breeze while the other frowns as she gets anxious. The current progress of the game?

Black's king is at h8, two black pawns are placed at g6 and g7, and black's bishop stands on e4. On the other side, the white's king is at g1, the queen stands menacingly at a3 meanwhile the knight is placed at e7 near the two black pawns.

Well with no time to waste, on the take of her turn, she sneaked a smirk while holding her queen. [Qh3#] with that, she won the match adding a new win to her record.

"Thirty thousand two hundred ninety-six wins!" someone in the crowd announced.

"As expected of the Celestial Saint!"

Loud cheers from the bored, lazy, and old gods. Conversations were exchanged between the applause and joyful toned shouts.

The defeated beauty had no hints of dejection but instead, she smiled as the game ended with the win of her opponent. This match was really tense and made the heart beat faster because of how thrilling it was; though this gave enlightenment to Isabella.

Irene sighed as the pent-up exhaustion began taking action after using every bit of her brain. She looked at her cousin who noticed her gaze and formed her mouth into a smile.

Though victory is hers, she recognizes Isabella as a frightening opponent in not only appearance but also in chess. Irene can be known to have a fair win against multiple gods in every expertise she has.

Isabella could have won by using the correct moves but she never had the intention of defeating and destroying Irene's winning streak. Intellectual ones do know that most of her wins were possible since her opponents played it easy and pretended to have given their best.

So no one should say that this young lady is protected by the plot. That would be an unreasonable slander, ahem!

Even if some gave her the win from the beginning, counting all of the exceptional achievements ranging from academics to talents, it is no doubt that she is a genius in her field of expertise.

Since the crowd began to disperse, Irene and Isabella can finally have a moment of privacy. With that reassurance of security, Irene started a casual conversation with her older cousin.

"Ella, don't you know how close you were to defeating me?" she said with a cheeky sort of tone.

Isabella scratches her cheek while having a somewhat awkward smile, "Really? I didn't know.."

Suddenly she subconsciously gulped as she felt Irene's interrogative gaze that tries to pierce through her incredible defense.

*Isabella is older than Irene which forms seniority between them however it doesn't apply since Irene has a higher status than her cousin. Also, Isabella is a distant relative not her indirect cousin from the extended branch.

Continuing to deny her statement, their conversation lasted for a long time that from a lively afternoon when the sun is still seen. To now where the moon has already exchanged shifts.

The next morning, news of the five-decade-long chess match ended with a fair victory for Irene; had spread like wildfire.

...

Inside one of three large structures, it stands as a venue for court meetings, assemblies, large tea parties, and this list goes on. A daily court meeting was held at crack of dawn and since noon is slowly approaching, the serious discussion then turned into a mix of casual and formal conversation with the current monarch: Helios, Heavenly Ruler.

"Allow me to overlook that everyone knows who won 'TCS VS TGB' or whatever they called it. Constantly hearing it from here and there for three decades was such a hassle."

He stood from the seat of his throne with one palm gripping the other hand behind his back, "Though it seems a hundred years was a wrong calculation."

Laughter filled the room then silence returned. An individual from the crowd raised his hand and Helios permits it with a quick nod.

"The Celestial Saint has been unmatched in her fields, truly the genius of her generation. We could guess where she inherited her wisdom."

"That flatter can't make the Heavenly Ruler promote your position but such jester can be given a small reward."

Then Helios seemed to make the gesture of stroking his chin while making a decision and added, "My daughter is an infamous troublemaker and has broken most of the basic rules. Sigh, chaotic old days."

...

At the private library of the Celestial Deities; certain shelves of this library contain books that the Celestial Goddess has written or owns and probably a whole section contains books from the God of Supremacy's travels in other realms.

In terms of where it is, no one knows where the library itself is. Speculations say, it's either inside a spatial dimension or similar to a rainbow's end, although you see it when you come closer it moves to another place.

For the security of this magical place, even if it would either be in another dimension or a mirage, the ruling Celestial Deities cast Primeval-grade sealing spells. The location and security of this otherworldly library are never known until a troublemaker sneaked her way into the library and found books that easily tainted her purity.

If it weren't for how her behavior and way of speaking drastically changed, the fact that she went to the library would have remained hidden.

Afterward, both the Celestial Goddess and Heavenly Ruler relocated the library into a dimensional space and re-cast the entire place with Celestial-grade sealing spells. It rather looks like the library wasn't in a spatial dimension but located in certain coordinates.

This incident led a circle of entities to know that there are erotic books that created infamous rumors that the two ruling deities are a pair of horny individuals or perverts. Of course, their reputation received an impact but those rumors died in a few months.

...

"Right, Your Majesty." they all bowed in perfect sync.

As no one had any other interesting topic to share, an awkward silence would surely come into the scene. However, this got interrupted when a soldier wearing a knight helmet embellished with red feathers and golden armor with a sun emblem on the chestplate center, appeared rushing inside.

The gods were slightly offended by his abrupt entrance but they ignored it as the Celestial Knight brought an injured messenger from the border.

"Speak," he said with an authoritative tone, "What had happened at the borders?"

The messenger slid off his torn white hood and revealed his face with a wound on his nose and dirt on his cheeks, "An ambush. The general relocated the army of celestial knights and winged knights then we were ambushed by the Devil's army."

Helios guarded his mouth, "I see."

He slammed his clenched fists on the armrest of the throne. His brows were furrowed and his golden irises became a small circle as he widened his eyes as if in shock.

"So what if you were ambushed." Helios looked straight toward his eyes, "Losing an incompetent general together with his arrogant army is a speck of cosmic dust."

"Yo-Yo-Your Majesty—"

"Shut it you stuttering fool!" he sneered.

Disappointment fairly oppresses anger caused by this messenger's stupidity. Helios finally is on the same page but, why is his subject asking him to avenge a stranger's death.

Helios showed a face of disappointment and disgust which displayed how distasteful he feels.

"Ah, Your Majesty." even with the tension, the celestial knight spoke up. He pointed at the messenger's hands which were occupied with a brown wooden box.

He sends a signal to the messenger then the poor fellow gave the box to the knight who gave it to Oliver. The high-elf in court attire stood by the side with his body facing horizontally forwards: this position allowed the Heavenly Ruler and everyone else to see the box.

Without further ado, Oliver unlocked the golden locket of the box and opened the wooden lid. Everyone gasped with widened eyes but Helios' reaction is more severe.

"And weren't you running your mouth giving hints that I should avenge for a humble reason?" His loud voice echoed throughout the room and gave everyone a quick flinch.

His golden eyes glowed dangerously as his palm spread open with a magic circle targeted toward the messenger. In contrast to his magic circle, the fellow had a golden collar-like thing around his neck which became tighter and tighter.

"I.. please... hear me.... your majesty."

Helios clicked his tongue before canceling the spell and turning his body towards his throne, "Send this man to a cell. The court is dismissed!"

He clenched his hands into fists, 'What is this, Deimos? An underhanded taunt?'
