Chapter 42 - A spark turns into a flame

----Hestia------------------------------------------------------

It had been a few years since I'd met Plamya, I had kept my eye Arataan, the girl had fascinated me.

I mean, her fire had been exclusive to the devil and his descendants, and the strength was close to his.

It was either a mutation that had awakened latent potential or there was another still alive, not realizing that he wasn't alone.

I would later find out what the answer was but at the time, she was just a fascinating specimen.

It was like seeing something struggle to survive, fascinating, entertaining but in the end you knew it was going to die anyways.

At least, that's what she was until I got the news that sent waves through the world and would start the formation of The Order and the Mage's Spire.

Every criminal overlord in Arataan had gathered to figure out what to do about the Mistress of Flames.

The building was a building that had survived multiple floods of lava, and multiple other natural disasters.

It was a legendary building, a symbol of the sturdiness of Arataan.

She had burned it to the ground, effectively cutting of the head of every criminal in the city. It is said that those who witnessed it saw the woman stand there, watching the carnage that she had created.

Afterwards, she had burned down every base of operations of those organizations and killed anyone affiliated with.

The cops had tried to stop her but she had killed them too.

A few had survived and gotten ahold of her family, they had been killed before her eyes causing her to give up trying to protect a city that didn't want it.

That was the day the entire city burned, nothing survived, the city was still when I found the girl, crying, unable to control the flames that were around her.

"I just wanted to help them, I just wanted to make this place better. Why didn't they want it? WHY GODS?!"

She cried out in rage, not at those who had chosen to become bad, or those who had been thrown into situations that had made them bad.

No, she was angry at a group of people who were dead. Oh well, I knew what was happening to her and couldn't blame her for the outburst.

I approached her. "That's because I'm the last goddess, they can't influence things when they're dead, can they now."

She looked me, then tried to burn me. I stopped it with my hand, making sure the flames didn't touch my skin.

I mean, the burns would heal but if you can avoid them, then why wouldn't you.

"You, you were at the auction, looking for Excalibur, right?"

She had apperently remembered me because I had come out nearly unscathed. Seeing me stop her flames must have made her remember me.

"You are the one who did this, you should stop the fire, you're only hurting yourself. I've seen it before, those flames are never good for their host."

In the past, a powerfull god of creation had given birth to the devil, a being with flames that could burn anything.

The more his flames developed, the more he started to feel the pain of those in agony.

They went to Chaos, the god begged him to help his son, save him from the pain.

Chaos couldn't, it was his power that was hurting him, and what was given could never be taken.

He did say that there were two ways to stop the pain, either let go of his morals and stop caring about the pain of others the thing that caused his power to hurt him in the first place or he could punish the wicked.

The god, not wanting to make his son a sociopath, sent him to Hades, asking him to let the boy help punish those in Asphodel.

Later he was recognized as the devil until he eventually become something evil in the eyes of the people.

This was the power that was coursing through her, the power that had made her punish those who hurt other, only, she was now just hurting herself.

At that moment, she lost the ability to feel the pain of others, it had been burned out of her by her own powers, she also lost her empathy, her trust in humanity and the ability to just trust in general.

I took her in, blessed her with the power of void and helped her regain what she lost, the only thing she doesn't have now, is her empathy.

She didn't want me to help her regain it, fearing that she would cause another Arataan, ironically, this showed that I didn't need to do anything, she already had regained it.

Afterwards, she started gathering others like her, those who felt that the worlds needed to be helped, she founded the order and made her husband the public face.
