Chapter 43 - The tournament

----Leo----

I didn't know what had come over me during the Royale, it was like I had awakened to something feral.

I asked Athena. "My guess, that red void is the cause. I've never seen or even heard of it but it originates from your negative emotions so maybe it's also abooster for them? I'm just spitballing here, like I said, it's a first for me too."

"Wait, I'm not the first to have void, why am I the first to experience this then?"

Athena shrugged. "My best guess, the amount of negative emotions might have caused it. I mean, it was alot. I can say that I've heard of different colored void before. Although it was the opposite from what this red can do.

There was mention of a blue colored one, it was unable to destroy."

"Going off of that, it's probably safe to assume that gold is a combination, creation and destruction, red is just destruction and blue is just creation?"

Having figured that out, I was one step closer to understanding void. I'll probably never completely understand it but hey, at least I kind of do.

We who had survived the Royale had were being led through a long corridor.

The greatest showman started explaining where we were. "This corridor is a memorial to all those who have fallen. It doesn't matter who they were, what rank they had or if they were seen as criminals, their names are recorded on these walls, never to be forgotten. From now on, if any of you die, your names will be recorded on these walls."

With that we had to let our ID's be scanned.

'System update initiated, full functionality unlocked.'

I was surprised but it did make sense that they wouldn't give anyone access to everything once they were E-ranked.

'ID user:666 666 666 is now D-ranked, no official rankings assigned.' Oh, so we were immediately given a new rank.

We walked a little further and finally arrived in a booth over looking a massive stadium, the field seemed to be the size of a city and every spectator was in a flying booth, these would move according to who they were here to watch.

We had a teleport pad in our booth and I could see other booths like ours, these had people who were going to fight.

"Ok, people, the tournament will first be used for you guys to win a prize. The one who gets the furthest will have their suit custom made by Heffy, I hope that's enough for you guys to try your hardest. We will now randomly assign you to another D-rank, step onto the pad once your name is called."

I waited, Thea was called before me and she was up against someone who had superstrenght and durability.

When I was called, I stepped onto the pad.I could see two flying booths approaching, one of these contained Maura and I waved at her.

She smiled back at me, then I looked at my opponent, it was a young woman, seemingly about 19 years old, but you never know. (She was 18 fyi).

She had a, assortment of instruments with her. She looked at me and looked towards the second sky booth, it had Dillon inside of it.

She looked angry, Dillon shrugged like he didn't know what was going on.

"Great, they put me with a newbie, someone messed with the system."

I looked at her, she seemed arrogant. "Why do you say that?"

She looked at me not with disgust or because she was looking down on me, but with pity.

"I'm B-ranked, someone wants you to fail, that or they want to test, no matter, you're not going to win."

Ah, that explains it, she's not arrogant, she just thinks I have no chance because of her having more experience.

"Could I at least know your name, I mean, that seems like common courtesy, doesn't it?"

"You can, call me Crescendo, apprentice of Dillon from the Mages Spire, who might you be."

"My partner gave me the name Homer, at your service."

"You know, it's sad that you brought your girlfriend with, you're not getting far."

"She came here to enjoy the tournament, even if I fail, we can still enjoy the show."

"Fair enough, well, I hope you enjoy the show, by the way, you have to shout READY, when you are ready to begin."

When she shouted, a red light turned on. I activated my arm guard and took out one of my knives.

"READY!"

A second light turned on and our battle started.
