Chapter 48 - Help

The taxi came to a stop in front of a modern two storey building.

"This is the British Embassy Miss" The driver informed the passenger on the back seat. Jo looked up at the building through the car window. She had finally escaped. She didn't had any money on her, so she removed one diamond earing from her ear and paid the taxi fare.

"This should be more then enough!"

The driver looked at the sparkling gem in his hand with big bright eyes.

"Yes... yes Miss, this is more than enough... thank you very much you are very kind" The driver started praising Jo continuously.

Jo stepped out of the taxi and looked around. It looked like nobody was following her, so she entered the building. Being late in the evening the staff was reduced and the place seemed quiet. There was a man in a uniform at the reception desk, he was Asian. Jo furrowed her brows.

"Hi, I wonder if you can help me, I am a British citizen and I came to seek asylum!"

The man lifted his tired eyes and looked at the girl.

"Your Passport please!"

"I don't have it, it was taken away!" Replied Jo looking sceptical at this man. Although he was Asian his British accent was spot on. So he must be a British citizen as well.

"Please fill in this form and take a seat"

Jo took the form and a pen and filled in the blanks. After about 15 minutes an officer came out and called her in. The officer guided her through the building and when they reached the first floor, they stopped in front of an office with the label 'British Citizen Bureau'. The officer opened the door and invited her in.

At the main desk there was a man who looked to be in his late 60's. He had a hair full of white hair and was wearing an official uniform, his eyes were dark and tired. Jo looked worried he was also Asian. For some reason she didn't trusted this embassy. She hadn't seen a single person who wasn't Asian.

"Take a seat!"

Jo complied and took a seat.

"Your name?"

"Joanne Elizabeth Muller" When he heard this name the man paused. He looked at the girl and then typed the name in the computer. In the next second all her information was revealed before his eyes. The man took her form and said.

"Can you step outside now. Take a seat in the waiting room on the ground floor, I will call you back later".

Jo got up and left the office. She went back downstairs and entered the waiting room. There was another girl in there, she was on the phone. She looked very young and her accent was British. Jo closed her eyes and kept listening to her dull conversation. It was nice to hear her motherland language. She felt safe for the first time, in such a long time. A little bit more to wait and she would be returning home to her life.

In the dark and silent night, a car was stopped at the side of the road. A girl was laying on the cold ground, while a man was walking towards her.

Pei Lightian approached Wei Wei and picked her up in his arms. He felt her body shaking, his heart started beating faster. God can remove his soul now, he was ready, he didn't deserve to keep living on this Earth, not after what he had done tonight.

Wei Wei kept her eyes closed and didn't move or make a sound. It was like she entered in a deep sleep. She evaded into another world, in a dreamland where she was pure again and the love of her life was spoiling her like usual.

Pei Lightian carried the girl back to the car and buckled her seat belt. He got back into the driving seat and started the engine. The car started sliding on the road into the dark night.

"Wei Wei, let me find a solution to this, please don't tell anyone yet".

After about an hour, the officer invited Jo to go back to the 'British Citizen Bureau'. They walked back up to the first floor and the officer opened the door. When Jo entered, there was another person in the room. A man. He was sitting in a chair with his back at the door. He was emanating a terrifying aura. The old man who took her interview earlier, got up and left the office.

At this moment Jo was numb, her mind was blank and her eyes hollow.
