Cabal followed the tunnel that he'd used to enter the Phoenix nest, and arrived at the other end , only to find Dwarven waiting for him.
The dwarf king sighed with relief , "Thank Grigolo. I thought that you had angered the queen and she'd incinerated you in an instant."
Cabal shrugged. "Oh well. I guess I'm gonna have to disappoint you. I'm still alive. "
Dwarven shook his head. "I'm not gonna ask you what you discussed. Now that I've fulfilled my promise , I guess that were even now. "
Cabal grinned ," I guess so. But , if you don't mind , I'd like a place to stay for the next few days. I'll only be for a short time , then I'll be out of your hair , I promise. "
Dwarven sighed and shook his head. "Very well. Come with me. "
The two turned and departed.
.....
Somewhere in the forest close to the exit of the dungeon.
Eric Nightshade stood before a giant screen of light created by a projection device. Facing him , from the comfort of his office, and with a passive , impresses look in his eyes was Matthew Lockheart , the bastard that sent him here.
"I knew that you could do it , but honestly , I'm impressed you completed the mission before the ten year time limit. "
Selene , at Eric's side frowned , as the hand gripping her staff visibly trembled. Casting a sidelong glance at her , Eric could see the the area where she gripped it was frosted over. She looked as angry as he felt.
Despite he fact that 3 out the seven members of his group died during the last battle , especially since Melinas death couldn't be explained , this guy was still acting so arrogant.
Erick mentally sighed. He didn't know what he was expecting. An apology. An offer of compensation , maybe some words of encouragement. Well it didn't matter.
Matthew continued without pause. "Since you completed the dungeon almost a month ago , why did it take you so long just to contact me. "
Now Erick showed a visible reaction. His face contorted and vicious aura of someone born and bred on the battlefield exploded outward. Since that last battle , he gotten a little bit stronger, and he hoped he continued to grow as a warrior.
"Have you forgotten where we are. Not withstanding the fact that there is little to no information about this place, there is also the small detail of us not supposed to be here. It took us all this time to move about and find a safe , secure location , as well as to erase any and all traces of our existence.
"We don't wanna die because of a little haste and your stupid , f**king impatience."
Matthew cocked an eyebrow at him , before , for the first time , nodded his head slightly as a sign of taking a step back. "Very well. I misspoke and so I apologize. But , we really dining have much time. Although it might inconvenience you a little , I suggest that you start establishing the teleportation gate so that we can move 'that' thing into position. Then operation 'Heightened Glory ' can begin. "
Erick looked uncomfortable at his words. He glanced at Selene , since this was her area of expertise. The arch mage sighed and nodded.
"Very well sir. As stated previously , it will be a bit of a stretch , but we can create a gate within the next three weeks. Other than that -"
Now Matthew snarled, interrupting her. "Didn't you hear me say that we're on a tight schedule. I don't care how you do it , but with 15 days at most , you must finish building the gate. Use some of your remaining teammates as distractions if you have to , but Get. It. Done.
"If not , don't even think about coming back home. You can rot in this place for all I care. "
Erick growled and in an instant , his mace was in his hand. Before anyone could respond , he smashed the projection device.
Selene was silent for a moment , then sighed. "We only had one of those. "
"Good," Erick grunted as he returned his weapon to his back. "I don't think I could've endured another meeting with that idiot without wanting to visibly strangle him. At least with this time that he's given us , I can try to calm down before he actually arrives. Otherwise , it don't even know what I might do. "
Selene nodded. "I feel your pain. And although I understand the importance of this quest, it doesn't mean I like it. The only reason I'm still here is because I agree with What were about to do. Otherwise , with my magic , if I wanted to return and hide in the human world , no one would be able to find me. Not even that pompous bastard. "
But Erick mentally shook his head. If only it were that easy. In fact , Matthew was stronger , but if he was willing to put his life on the line , he might be able to beat him. Or they could just leave the guild entirely.
The only reason he was still here was because of the colossal force that was manipulating them from the shadows. A being that sent a group mainly filled with commoners and low level nobles to do their dirty work because they didn't want to deal with the annoyance of higher level nobles should the plan fail.
The one who had caused the death of his team members.
The Supreme Queen-the ruler of the 1st Kingdom.
