One week later.
Cabal grinned from his place overseeing the entire ape council. During the week after he'd killed Mong Kong , he'd also eliminated his wife to prevent any future trouble and spent the remaining time familiarizing himself with the chiefs mannerisms. When he was ready , he called for this council meeting.
"My people , " he started , "Although I am filled with grief at the passing of my son , who died leading a secret mission against the dogs of the Phoenix , his death has opened my eyes. It is with a sorrowful , but solemn heart , that I put forward this preposition. "
He took a breath and cast his gaze at the elders around him, all of whom were older than him , with sagging fur.
"We were sent by the Great One , to prepare the way for him. To sow dissension in the foes of our Lord so that he may claim what is rightfully his. But our enemy is more cunning than we are. They have more forces, and we , separated as he are from the Great Ones light , cannot hope to beat them in a direct confrontation like we have been doing. "
His steely gaze scanned the crowd , searching for those who would disagree, but finding none. With a mental nod , Cabal continued. "Therefore , i think we need a new approach. It is with this thought in mind , that I suggest to this council that we target the other insurgents , that alongside us , were sent by the Great Ones companions to target the Phoenix's forces. "
A great silence befell the hall as very aged ape cast their shock filled looks at their chief. Cabal silently looked at them, waiting for their slow minds to keep up. After a time, the oldest elder and the spokesperson for the council opened his mouth. "Leader , a-are you sure of this path. Although the others do not serve a being a mighty as our master , do you not think that affecting their plans might put unnecessary pressure on him. "
Cabal mentally grinned. That's exactly it.
But he didn't say it. Instead he physically shook his head. " It may seem like this if looked at from an outsiders perspective , but with the wisdom of the Great One , he should he able to easily understand our intentions.
" After we take down the other groups that are working against the Queens forces , and incorporate them into our own forces, we'll be able to subjugate the werewolves with almost relative ease. After that , we can move against the other forces , taking them down one by one. That way , although we may have messed with their plans , their end goal would still be achieved. "
"B-But a-are you s-sure that-t-this is the right -"
"-Are you doubting the wisdom of the Great One," Cabal roared, interrupting the elder and sowing doubt and confusion I tot eh council at the same time. "Since time immemorial , the Great One has watched over our tribe. He has guided us , our ancestors, he has brought them prosperity. His thoughts are our thoughts , his actions are ours.
"Are you insinuating that he won't be able to pick up on our plans. That he would doubt our loyalty to him. "
The elder faltered. And it was that hesitation that was his downfall. "I call for a vote. All elders that have faith , not only in my plan , but in the greatness and wisdom of the Great One , please , help me to correct the failing minds of our brothers and sisters.
"I know many of you think my actions are due to grief , but we cannot keep dragging out this fight. Our Lord grows more impatient with each passing day. If we we cannot accomplish our task soon, his wrath will be upon us. "
The elders discussed among themselves. Many of them agreed with him , being influenced by his great speech and their faith. Others , not so much. They believed that they shouldn't adopt a plan that their Lord hadn't personally issued to them.
And throughout it all, Cabal could hear them , using a mutation from one of his many monster transformations.
After a few minutes of discussions, the spokesape stepped forward , "Leader , the council.... agrees with your proposition. We are ready upon your order. "
Cabal visibly grinned. "We shall beginning planning immediately. "
...
Renova slammed her palm onto her armrest , sending sparks flying into the air.
"Useless. You all are useless. "
The elfking , having personally appeared lowered himself even lower. "Forgive your subordinates for being useless. Please , punish us as you see fit. "
He Queen took large , heaving breaths to calm herself. Once again , the humans had foiled her. Not only had they escaped the search of the elves and birds of prey, they'd taken down 2 or the groups that had been sent to look for them. And still there was no trace of them.
This must be what normal human leaders feel like, she thought as she gritted her teeth. Because her fellow generals were keeping tack of her action s, she was finding it a nuisance to move herself. However , if they found out about this particular incident , her reputation would be ruined. She had to do something.
"I -"
Suddenly , her head snapped to the right as her eyes flashed , seemingly allowing her to look beyond the walls of their chambers. Her gaze seemed to cross a vast distance and see something.
Chuckling she facepalmed and shook her head. "Forgive me. It seems I took my anger out on you for no reason. "
The elfking looked at her in confusion before he too seemed to sense something. "Such a large magical disturbance. What the-"
The Phoenix Queen stood up as flames began to billow from her feet. "It seems their done with whatever preparations they were doing. Now their calling me. "
She cracked her knuckles as bloodlust filled her eyes. "I'll deal with this personally. "
Before the elf king could respond , her flames engulfed her entire body and she shot through the opening above her and out of sight in a second, leaving her subordinates standing there with a dazed expression.
