As it turned out, my week pretty much ended up uneventful as it had started, apart from the day out with Ryder yesterday, which in some cases might be good or bad. Or in my case bad, and that was actually an understatement. Not forgetting the fact I couldn't help but feel a little homesick. Whether it would be Eve's annoying friends, or the playboy a floor above blasting music past midnight or the morning rush hour in the streets below that had been annoying then, I couldn't help but miss it. And it bothered me, I thought as I heard small feet bundling down the stairs.
"Pancakes!?" Alex and Darius exclaimed making me laugh as they sat down eagerly.
Lisa's flight back home had been cancelled, so she had to catch the next one hope in a day so I had to babysit for two more days. Not that I minded. Though Eve would probably tease me about it. She thinks kids and I don't mix, then again there weren't enough kids to prove the theory. Just one who annoyed the crap out of me. But maybe that's because the said kid melted an antique hairbrush I'd received from my father.
"Eat up and because you were all good last night I promised we'd go out today."
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise. Now eat up and don't forget your medicine, Alex."
"Okay," he said as I left the room with Alyson breakfast a little glad that she wasn't the fussy type. In fact she has to be one of the sweetest kids I've ever met, I thought realizing that the only only noises she made were cute gaggles as she tried to soothe her teething gums.
"Hey, lovely," I called out and she reached out to me from where she sat and I chuckled letting her have her breakfast.
To say I loved this kid was an understatement but I'm not ready to imprison myself to such thoughts. But I didn't have to stay long in my thoughts and an hour later we were out of the house.
"Diana!? Over here," Alice called out for me exactly and I was shocked.
For someone who called me at midnight to pick her up because she was out partying, she looked pretty chirpy. Then again I had invited her for the day out but I really didn't expect her to show. But honestly, I should have expected it. This girl as much as she seemed more of a Barbie doll only with black hair, she was just another kid deep down. I should have guessed amusement park would have gotten her out of bed.
"You're looking chirpy!?" I said with the two trouble makers in tow.
"Are you kidding!? I had to go through three cups of coffee just so I could get out of my pajamas. And so I couldn't also miss out on the chance to have fun," she said sheepishly before turning her eyes to the stroller I was pushing and started cooing. "Aww, she is so cute."
She said and I turned to Alex and Darius who was looking at her weirdly before I realized what was going on as the two boys greeted her sheepishly and I burst out in laughter and stifling a cackle when they turned to me.
"Don't mind me," I said as they entered the booth both of them beside her. "So guys, what do you want?"
I asked the distracted dynamic duo before making our orders.
"So..?" Alice started and I refrained from glaring at her for distracting me from my food. I loved my meal time, don't judge much and Alyson by my side didn't help.
"So?"
"How was your date yesterday?"
"Uh...what?" I asked turning to her confused and gave me the 'start-talking-and-don't-you-dare-shit-me-look' and I tensed. I was wondering how long it would take be she brought it up. And yet despite all this, I decided to play dumb.
"What are you talking about? I never had a date yesterday."
"Diana Rose Peters!? You are blatantly lying to my face," she called out and I sucked dodging a ketchup covered fry chucked my way.
"You know using your position in the office for your own personal issues is actually illegal..."
"Diana!?" She called out with a glare as I dodged another fry.
"You know some people could really use the food," I said looking at the floor where it landed and she let out a sigh.
"I know but come on, I'm dying in anticipation over here. You went on a fu...frigg'ng date with Ryder Stone and you didn't even tell your best friend," she corrected herself when I narrowed my eyes at her.
"One, it wasn't a date. He kidnapped me from school."
"Uh..huh?"
"I'm not lying."
"I never said you were," she said giving a knowing smirk and I rolled my eyes.
"Stop giving me that look."
"What look?"
"Like you know something I don't."
"Well..?"
"Spit it out Alice."
"You are the first person he's actually shown interest in in a long time."
"You do realize that it's just the beginning of the school year right?" I said and she let out a sigh smacking her forehead.
"Sometimes it feels like you don't even know who you are dealing with. Remind me to give you a lesson some time."
"Your point?"
"For as long as I can remember, even if they aren't related by blood, those three boys tend to keep to themselves."
"I've met Ethan, who's the third?"
"Cody Burns. I have the picture. He's the nicer one in the group and the calm one. If I was asked he balances them out and he also throws the best parties on the block," she said handing me her phone.
"He models?"
"Occasionally."
"Okay but what exactly is your point?" I asked and she rolled her eyes. I knew what she was doing but I wasn't going to play into it.
"And I thought you couldn't be dense. He likes you."
"Hey what do you know? Tess and Jordan are outside. Let's go," I said and she let out a dramatic sigh.
"You can't keep avoiding it forever."
"And you've been reading too many books on Wattpad," I said and she pouted making me laugh and I patted her head. "Don't worry, you'll find some other people to gush over. All I intend to do now is minimize all encounters with him. Now drop it or I'll disown you."
She pouted but didn't bring it up again as we left for the amusement park. Lisa had been all for it when I suggested it and like the dedicated babysitter I was, I intended to fulfill my promise as we all entered our respective cars. And just saying but part of the reason I invited them was because hands were already full with Alyson. I needed extra hands with Alex and Darius which Tess and Jordan gladly took off my hands that I had to hand it to them. Then again they had their group of friends as backup.
"Hey there is one more thing I have to tell you," Alice called out as I took Alyson's bag out of the car. "Don't get mad but..."
"What did you do Alice?" I said narrowing my eyes at her growing overly suspicious at her flustered self but before she could answer..
"Sunshine, is that you...?"
You've gotta be kidding me.
