A moment later, Chancellor Billings led me into his office, followed by Ms. Acevedo, his secretary. "I hope you don't mind, but for both of our sakes, I've asked Ms. Acevedo to sit in on this discussion." He had never called another person to sit in on a meeting before. This was a first.
I shook my head. "Not at all." I could tell from here on out, no man was going to be alone in a room with me after this, no matter what happened in the trial.
Chancellor Billings closed the door as Ms. Acevedo took a seat in the far corner, notebook and pen in hand. It was clear that she was going to record whatever was said.
"Please, sit down," Chancellor Billings said to me, indicating one of the chairs in front of his desk. When I was seated, he sat and folded his hands on top of his desk. "Now. Tell me what happened."
