Chapter 2 - White Wizard

Lucy Rudolf's P.O.V

I searched up and down for any traces of this demon, but I couldn't find anything. I also thought long and hard about telling my family. However, Malefici was right. They would think I was crazy!

How was I going to explain the mess to my parents? Should I just pretend I didn't see anything?

I was still contemplating my plan of attack when I walked back inside the house. To my surprise, the mess was gone. Everything fixed itself, and there was not a dish out of place.

"What? What happened?" I looked around. I actually slapped myself at one point to prove to myself I wasn't dreaming.

My hand flew to my head. I was starting to have a migraine from all this stress, it was just too much.

I slumped up the carpeted stairs and opened my bedroom door. My hand shook violently along with the rest of my body when I found what was in my room.

All of the cords that were plugged into the outlets in my room were soaking wet. I could see little sparks of electricity popping from the outlets. It looked as if someone dumped water on them. Was is that demon?

I would have to be really stupid to walk into my room like that. As I attempted to close the door, I noticed that part of the door was soaked in water as well.

I started to freak out and I accidentally knocked some of the papers from the desk in my room. This was too dangerous. The outlet closest to me started to spark even more violently, and I was struck before I even had a good grasp of the situation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was woken up with a bright white light in my face. Was I dead?

The last thing I remember was trying to avoid the sparks in my room; I must have been electrocuted.

I started to look around, and I nearly freaked out when I realized I was just floating around in empty space.

"Hello?!" I started to panic. I knew this was probably a stupid thing to do, but my panic got the best of me.

I heard no answer, and I grew tense when I saw another figure manifest in front of me.

It was a women. She had beautiful silvery hair that reached her ankles. She wore layers of white shirts and cloaks, and her expression was that of understanding.

"Am I dead?" I said, my voice shaking only a little.

She shook her head. "I guess you could say you were dead, but you are very much alive now. You are here in Light Space. This is a safe haven for people like us."

"Us? What are you? What happened?" I feel like I had more questions than she had more answers.

She looked away for a moment. "I guess you could address us as your teachers. I happened to notice that you had a strange visitor today at the Rudolf residence."

I nodded. "He called himself the Black Demon Malefici."

She didn't look fazed by my comment. "What you saw was no dream, or nightmare in your case. He is from the Dark Space; it is for people like him."

"There are more like him?" My heart dropped back somewhere on earth when she said this.

She spoke indifferently. "Of course, you got Vampires, and Werewolves, and Ghosts, the list could go on. But you aren't like them. The only thing you have in common with those people is your humanity."

"Wait, are they human? But didn't you say they were Vampires and Werewolves?"

She shook her head. "The only true non-humans are us, the teachers. The lot of you are originally humans, you just turn into our kind."

I was puzzled. "Does that mean we are the good guys? What are you, if you're not one of them?"

She cracked a smile. "I guess you could call us the good guys, Heroes I should say. I am the Grand White Wizard, Polori."

White Wizard? As in the ones in the mythology textbook?

"Why did you bring me here? Wasn't I supposed to be dead?"

Her expression turned deadly serious. "The Light Space needs someone like you, Lucy. Your job will be to eliminate Malefici. He is responsible for countless breaking and entering's in the city, and his ultimate goal is the same as his allies; to eventually destroy this world."

"What? What do you want me to do? I'm only human!"

"And so are they, that is why I will pass on my magic to you. Only people who believe in us can be granted this power, and nobody believes in wizardry anymore. You are our last hope against Malefici, Lucy."

I started to breathe heavily. "I'm really not dreaming."

"No, you are most certainly not. But I would suggest you be very careful when attacking him. He's no God of Darkness, but he's certainly not the weakest."

"What about you? You seem to be very important here."

"Me? I am the same. I'm no Goddess of Light, but I'd say i'm a fair bit stronger than most other Heroes. You and Malefici will be fairly equal in power, so you will need all your strength."

I fiddled with my fingers. "I'll be like them?"

She nodded. "Now close your eyes, the transfer will be much more bearable like this."

I could feel someone trace a certain design on my left shoulder blade. It didn't hurt much at all, it just felt very numb.

When she was done, she reappeared in front of me. "Now listen. Anytime you need to use this power, just trace this design. Your identity is on the line here, which is why everyone's appearances are changed drastically. You need to keep all of this a secret. The only person who knows your secret will be you and I."

I quickly nodded. "Okay, I understand Polori. My only concern is that I would not only be destroying a demon, but I'll also be killing a human. Doesn't this feel wrong?"

She frowned. "Malefici is not in his right state of mind. He's dangerous as a human too. I know it rough to think about killing a human, but if you just weaken him enough, we can remove his power and send him away. The thought if killing makes me sick too."

Maybe I could just strip him of his power and send him off to jail, if he was really evil. The last thing I could do would be to kill somebody.

Polori looked side to side. "I think your parents want you back now, Lucy. One last thing, before I forget; you cannot use your real name when you are transformed. If anyone asks, say your name is "Justine".

Justine. It does kind of sound like a superhero name.

Polori grinned before saying goodbye. "If you need anything else, make sure you talk to your teammates, they should be able to help you."

She disappeared before I had a chance to say anything else.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I opened my eyes at the sound of my parents voice. "Lucy?!" My mother shrieked as she gave me a bear hug.

"What happened? How long has it been?"

My Dad walked in with a big smile on his face. "About 2 weeks, how are you feeling?"

"Two weeks?" I nearly raised my voice. "I'm sorry guys, I should have been more careful."

My Mom violently shook her head. "Don't apologize! Somebody must have purposely done this to you, we just need to figure out who."

That reminded me of Malefici. If I was not mistaken, I now had the power of the Grand White Wizard. The last thing I remember from Light Space was her transferring power to me.

"We will Mom, but could I have a few minutes to myself? I really need to think about some things."

She looked startled by my comment at first, but relaxed soon after. "Of course, this is a lot to take in right away."

As soon as my parents left, I forced myself out of the hospital bed and into the bathroom.

"If I just trace this, I'll have the Grand White Wizards power?"

I turned my back to the mirror and started to trace the design Polori gave me. As soon as I finished the last piece, the area around it glowed, and I was welcomed with a rush of magic.

I grew dizzy, but I regained my balance in no time, and I was startled when I looked in the mirror.

I was now the Grand White Wizard, Justine.
