My name is XXX. I'm just an average guy who likes to stay at home. My hobby of course being a cultured person, Is that even a hobby?
Well, today is a day-wait It's already night! I just finished buying some groceries and was heading back home now.
I successfully reached my house as I didn't encounter any cliche Isekai accidents on my way. I feel sleepy and decided to throw the groceries I bought directly inside the refrigerator as I go to my room upstairs.
Laying on the bed I closed my eyes and...
"Link Started!"
With my usual being saying my sleeping phases before sleeping, well It's not like that will work-ZzZzzz
...
Have you ever heard of lucid dreaming?
It's when you're dreaming, but you're aware you're dreaming.
Right then, I was in a deserted city and It looks like a wasteland.
Yes, a wasteland. If you can picture the Zombie Apocalypse, that should give you an idea.
How did I know this was a dream? For one thing, I remembered falling asleep on my bed just a few moments ago. For another, there were the four icons in the bottom-right corner of my field of vision along with the gadget labeled Menu and the radar display in the top right. It was a game panel like Satou's System, the manga I had been reading not long ago too.
However! This wasn't the first time I'd taken a nap and found myself having a system in my dreams.
Sometimes when I was jerking in my room sitting in a computer chair and after releasing some stress I directly go to bed and dreamt something like this too.
The scent of the parched earth tickled my nose. A dream where I could smell things… That was unusual. Through a little trial and error, I figured out that I could open the menu just by thinking about it as Satou did. To my amusement, I can't touch it directly with my hand. Luckily, I could operate it with my mind, too.
I then decided to look at my character Status...
NAME: King
LEVEL: 1
TITLE: Transmigrator, Strongest Man on Earth
HP: 20/20
MP: 20/20
SP: 20/20
---
STR: 1
VIT: 1
DEX: 1
INT: 1
---
Damn my character sucks and what's with this generic name, what's with that title sounds like total BS have you ever seen my stat? I don't even have a starter pack in my inventory.
I then surveyed my surroundings, I saw that I was on the top of a building. Curiously I decided to head toward the edge.
I was pretty high up, I was standing on the rooftop of an abandoned building at least 8 stories high. Similar abandoned buildings on the land rose from all over the Abandoned City. The bottom is full of crashed cars and broken objects scattered on the ground like in the usual scene in Zombie Apocalypse.
I tried to check it on the map, but everything outside my immediate area was blank.
Assuming that this is the same as Satou's System, I would only be able to see areas I'd explored. A label in the upper left said.
City Z - 2nd Monster Association Headquarters
Huh? City Z? Monster Association? That's sound familiar, maybe there are a lot of monsters in this area?
I squinted as best I could, but I didn't see anything that looked like a monster.
Instead, I saw something very different.
It was something unusual happening from the ground of the past three building away from me, the ground opened up a huge hole, and a hundred monsters emerged from it. Like a hidden den of monsters.
My eyes instinctively fell on the four icons in the bottom-right corner of my vision, one that read Skills Section.
There was a Search Entire Map and 3 1-use Meteor Showers like the one Satou's got from the start.
Driven by a vague sense of unease, I selected the Search Entire Map skill.
The radar automatically located any enemies through the map, and a cluster of red dots confirmed the emerging group of monsters was hostile. Since the radar's scope was limited, I opened up the bigger map to check their configuration.
The advancing army was a group of high-level monsters. There were so many of them, the map's entire upper half was flooded with red.
…Isn't this…a bit over the top? There are way too many of them!
The approaching group was labeled as Elite Monster. There were around three hundred of them, most about level 50.
An unarmed level 1 player like me definitely wouldn't stand a chance.
When the group was less than 10 meters from the building I was standing, they suddenly stopped in their tracks.
I crouch down to the ground to get out of their sight, and carefully peered at them.
They seemed like some kind of army of monsters, but it was no ordinary army. I could tell they weren't created from ordinary metal as it was surrounded by a blue aura, but the dust obscured my view too heavily to determine much else.
One of the monsters broke away and came closer to the building I was hiding, finally giving me a clearer look. The monster looks like Lizardman.
The lizardman was shouting something in a language I didn't understand, wait is that Japanese? But there was no question that he seemed to have figured out I was here. I guess I could chalk that up to an absurd level of difference.
"Oh, how come there's a human here? Are you investigating our motive?" The Lizardman monster said in Japanese.
He seemed to wait a moment for my reply. When none came, he get angry for waiting and opened up his mouth and condensed a tennis size energy ball, he aimed it right at me, The outline of his body briefly glowed red, but I had no time to worry about that.
The lizardman let the energy ball in his mouth go, and it cut through the air, whistling straight toward me. Yes, completely straight, it moved in a perfect line, seemingly untouched by gravity. In that instant, I resigned myself to dying in my dream, but the energy ball only grazed my cheek as it flew past me.
My face felt hot as if it had been burned. Unconsciously, I put my hand to my cheek and felt something slippery. Looking down, I saw that my fingers were stained red, just as I'd feared.
I licked the fresh blood on my hand and it tasted iron… Is this a dream…? The question sprang unbidden to my mind.
Suddenly a Thunderous sound erupted in my head interrupting my thoughts. An enormous amount of memory flushed into my mind I held my head in pain as I stumbled back clumsily, and the memory surge ended.
Before I had a chance to catch my breath, a hail of broken objects I saw on the ground just now landed a meter from where my body had been just moments before. The first object to land was broken into pieces and scattered as the other broken objects behind it struck beside it. Eyeing the broken objects in front of him, I shivered as if my back had been doused in cold water.
Those thrown broken objects accumulated into piles a meter away from him. Those monsters were talented marksmen, but I had no time to waste admiring them.
The only thing on my mind was fear.
Those of you who have been chased by monsters in your dreams will probably understand how I felt.
But hey this is not a dream anymore, how did I know? Well, I just got a memory and got the conclusion that I transmigrated as King on 'One Punch Man' world, sounds absurd right?
Now I'm in a pinch I had very few options. I could stay here squatting with for the building I was hiding to collapse and die, try to run away during a break in the cascade of broken objects, or fight back.
Of course, I fight back I just transmigrated and you tell me I die? I selected one of the three Meteor Shower icons that were in the Skill Section. The skill vanished, leaving behind an empty skill slot.
But that's not all, of course, I decided to use the remaining two as well, and again the skills only disappeared, but why is there still no response? I waited as I stared at the sky for a second until a broken object landed beside me.
"Oh, come on! Are you telling me the skill isn't working yet?"
As if to further fan my panic, another wave of broken objects rained down.
Slowly but surely, the barrage landed inches away from me.
I knew that this Meteor Shower Skill should have slow preparation since Satou get too but, I was going to die before the skill was executed.
Cursing, I tried to move away as another broken object landed where I was just a moment. Still no effects?
One of the broken objects finally grazed my shoulder with its broken pieces.
"Damn it! I'm gonna die because of a bug? What kind of sick bad ending of Isekai is this?" I grumbled, but my anxious complaints soon faded to a weak murmur.
Why? Because I had spotted countless meteorites breaking through the clouds, crashing down.
I stared stupidly at the sight...
