Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Day Arises

Just a week or so after coming to this world I realized so much, and learned even more. Firstly, I was incredibly strong for some reason, like gravity in this world was weaker, or maybe everyone here was super strong to the point of resisting gravity.

Secondly, lots of strange creatures were around. Based off of what my dad told me, there were varying classes of monsters, and the ones around our little homestead were smaller compared to what was in the nearby woods, where I supposedly went.

Thirdly, there was magic. Or, according to my dad, arts. These arts were something most people had to make their lives easier, and they figure what their art is at schools, like the Hunter school I'll be going to.

"Hey Dad?" I said softly as I walked beside him, carrying some wooden logs to help with the fire.

"Yes Kose? Is something bothering you?" He looked down at me and I smiled, shaking my head.

"Not at all, I just wanted to know what your art is, is that ok?" I looked up at him with a curious look.

"Ah I see. Well then set the wood down for me really quick, your dad has quite the art himself." He spoke proudly and I was excited, putting the wood down and watching him as he took a few steps back.

He looked at me with a grin and crossed his arms, fire sprouting from his shoulders. I watched in amazement as the fire started to encase his arms and half of his face. It solidified into armor, the arms themselves looking like they were covered in dark red scales, and the half of his face looked similar to a samurai helmet.

"Woah! That's awesome dad!" I may physically be a kid again, but this time I genuinely felt like I was. What I just saw was amazing.

My dad laughed and nodded at me. "I'm glad you like it. You'll probably have something similar, though I'm not sure. Mutations can happen, after all I am one." He smiled brightly.

"Mutation? What does that mean dad?" I tilted my head curiously as I watched the flames turn back into actual flames, and sink back into his skin.

"Hm...a mutation is rare but can happen more often if mutations have occurred in the family. My dad actually had something similar to me, but it was water based." He ran a hand through his beard as he spoke. "I think you may have something like me, as well as things from your mom, she had a multi mutation, meaning she essentially had a multiple element based art." He smiled softly, recalling my mother seemed to make him happy.

In the blink of an eye, weeks passed, and I woke up to hear my dad talking with people outside. What's going on? As I was thinking this, I quickly got dressed and headed out. I walked up behind my dad to see some sort of carriage drawn by small two legged..dinosaurs? I couldn't help myself as I ran up to them, excited like a little kid.

"Kid! You'll get hurt by going that fast wait!" A womans voice called out to me and I looked back, seeing a fairly decently sized woman running over, clad in some scaled armor with a bow slung over her back. I smirked at her and continued towards them, extending my hand. At first the creatures were hostile, but as a soft orange glow emitted from my palm, they calmed down and kneeled their heads so I could pet them. I looked back again and saw that everyone had gone quiet, watching me in amazement.

"A beast tamer..." My dad whispered, which was more of a slightly quiet form of speech for him.

"A what? Is that..bad?" I asked, seeing everyone had a whole new look as they watched me pet the creatures. One of them licking me and I laughed softly.

"Not at all!" The same woman from earlier came up and ruffled my hair. "It's an incredibly rare art, and to think you gained it from such an astonishing mutation!" She seemed excited and I blushed a bit. Mainly because, well, her chest was in view and I looked away and to the creatures.

"We'll check the extent of his abilities at the school, to see if he has anything else. Feel free to pop in whenever sir." A man spoke to my dad, which in turn my dad nodded in response.

"Son! You'll be leaving with these two, so be sure to treat them with respect!" My dad called out with a smile. "Your schooling starts soon!"

"I-.." Was all I could manage to say. Everything was happening so fast. Was this time travel? It felt like yesterday I was getting up for school. Ah..that day.. I almost forgot it. Tears streamed down my face as I recalled everything. I left people who cared for me behind. People who won't be able to see me again. The people here, however, saw it as a sign of I didn't want to go.

"Oh, my dear boy, are you ok?" My dad walked up and kneeled down, pulling me into a hug which I of course returned.

"Y-yeah...I'll be ok.." I said softly, holding him tight. I can't get hurt from all that now, I have to be strong, here, in this world. What other option is there? "When do I leave?" I pulled away from the hug and wiped my eyes.

"A few minutes. Your belongings are already being sent to the school, try and have fun there, and make friends." My dad said jokingly and I chuckled.

"Alright, I'll just wait with these things." I patted one of the creatures noses, and the woman beside my dad still seemed shocked.

"They're called Hook Drakes. The hooks they have on their feet make them excellent for travel, if you can tame one that is. People they don't know they're aggressive with." She came a bit closer and one of the Hook Drakes snapped at her and she squealed, hiding behind me, which caused me to laugh like the dork I was.

"Don't worry ma'am, I got em." I smiled at her and she nodded, collecting herself as she got up again and cleared her throat.

"Let's get going, alright? We've got to get your abilities properly checked after all!" With that, she opened the carriage door and I got in, hugging my dad one last time before doing so.

Today marked a new page in my story. Hopefully, school is better here then it was in my original world.
