Chapter 5 - Curses, a glass half empty

" --Initiating Entity Induction--"

Log 1 (Day 142, 300 A.C.): Error Code 404 in soul transference was detected due to a cross world soul insertion initiated 24 hours early. Consequence of delta error in soul transmission schedule- separation of original soul from host body. Inter-world soul management protocol 'soul recovery' initiated to retrieve ejected soul.

Log 2 (Day 142, 300 A.C.): Host soul lock confirmed, soul set to transfer to central management facility in 20Hrs:07Mins:46Sec

Log 3 (Day 142, 300 A.C.): Initiated contact with host, host initiated first request. Request within reasonable parameters- auto granted.

Entity Description: The Inter World Soul Management society's, first sentient, soul recovery system (SRS), set to retrieve lost souls and resolve errors created by the central soul transmission centre. The purpose of this system is to ensure the safety of the host and to ensure hosts soul is recovered by the allotted time. Advanced features are locked unless approved by local administrator.

"--Alert: Host emotional quotient rising above recommended levels, further information is deemed irrelevant, terminating induction protocol--"

"Oi, what do you mean by some quotient is too high, I didn't even understand half of that! Wait, what was that about shipping me off somewhere, get back here and tell me straight on!"

" -- -- "

'Damn thing is ignoring me now, I wonder what it would take to get a response out of it- not that I have time for this, I need to recover my body from that thieving soul.'

Hours passed by, as Zuck camped outside the dwelling of Roland, waiting for him to come out. Yet Roland was nowhere to be seen- 'is the intruder a partner to this SRS thingum mcthingee, damn guy's probably waiting for the system to take me away.'

Without much else to do, Zuck waited for an opportunity to arise, where he could sneak inside or catch the thief going ouside. Unfortunately, there was nothing interesting for hours.

Until finally late into the night: '''Rustle, Rustle'''

There seemed to someone moving nearby, turning to look around Zuck saw several menacing shadows sweeping out of the vegetation nearby and they seemed to be pouncing towards him.

Gearing into a defensive position, Zuck prepared for impact out of habit, just as the first person approached him.

'''Swoosh, Swoosh, Swoosh'''

They all seemed to pass right through him without slowing down a beat, he was a ghost after all.

'It's going to take some time getting used to this whole ghost thing' thought Zuck. But now he was interested to see what this suspicious group was upto. Following them, Zuck saw that they went to the building Roland was currently in and removed all the wards using some kind of glowing tool. Some of them operated as alarms that went off when the perimeter was breached, yet even those were removed without issue.

After successfully removing all the wards, the group made their way inside.

'Well I'm a ghost now so I guess it should be easy to pass through the wall now that there aren't any wards. Let's take advantage of this whilst I still have a chance!'

'''Bang, Owww...'''

Zuck was a bit too excited and the anticipation of passing through a wall seemed to make it hurt more now that he realised he couldn't. "Wait there is no way this wall is made of spiritual energy right; the elders wouldn't give someone like me such extravagant treatment…" murmured Zuck.

But of course, he had more important things to worry about, such as the group that broke in. Going in after the group, he noticed they went straight to the kitchen and started lacing each item there with some type of deadly poison. These guys were definitely hired thugs, "who dares to do use such under handed means against me, the hell did I even do to anyone?" yelled Zuck in frustration. Alas his ramblings fell on deaf ears, as the group continued their job. Noticing the bottle used for poisoning the items, "son of a, that's the rumoured Mieusgem poison that doesn't leave any traces and evaporates after a given time period, why are they even using such expensive poison against a nobody like me?"

'Well this may not necessarily be a bad thing, if the intruder gets poisoned, once the posion leaves, I can reclaim my body. That's what you get for stealing, thieving busybody's end up in stitches after losing all their riches!'

But would everything follow Zuck's plan, it seemed like the world conspired against him, to put a wrench in his plans- Roland was standing right by the door, waiting with a smile for the group to notice him.

Once the group were satisfied, they headed to the main door to leave silently in the cover of night, to go unnoticed. Yet when they saw Roland standing by the door, they knew things had gone off plan. Despite that, the group were still well composed, as if they had already accounted for this possibility. Immediately four amongst the group took out weapons and charged towards Roland, whilst the rest started to trash the place and putting items away into their storage rings. Making it look like a burglary.

"Aaagh, why did this idiot have to bring my body into this, what do you think you alone can do against this many people! It's all gone, I'm never getting my body back am I..." whilst wallowing in self-despair Zuck remembered the SRS thingee mentioned something about correcting errors, if the body got harmed that would mess up whatever the plan was.

Almost sensing his summons, the voice spoke again " --Host request for support recognised, weapons system engaged, physical connection of host to plain successful, random weapons draw initiating-- "

" --Ding ding ding, Emperor's Roar summoned. Weapon Type: Spear, suited for long range combat against multiple opponents. Weapon Stats: Attack = 5, Dexterity = 7, Defence = 3, Range = 6. Special effects: Bonus damage from surprise attack 50%, chance for Emperor's Roar to be initiated after a casualty- knocks out any opponents within a 10 metre radius.-- "

Without waiting for the system to complete it's lengthy explanations, and having understood the gist of it Zuck launched at the weakest looking one amongst the group targeting Roland. Hopefully, he could make it in time before his body sustained any serious injuries, seeing that Roland was still standing there as if it had nothing to do with him. Zuck was too far away when he saw one of the figures draw a matte black sword that was now only a few inches away from Roland, yet he had not made a single move yet. He was going to die at this rate!
