I opened my eyes, waking up from a memory I didn't think I'd remember. Kai and I when we were little, when we just met. I sat up and looked out the cabin window, watching a few birds fly by and tweet a strip of song as they passed. Even though it was barely morning, I wasn't ready for the day to begin. I decided to get up anyways since I wasn't going back to sleep anytime soon.
"Why does today feel like it's going to get disappointing?" I asked myself, yawning and the tossing my legs over the side of the bed. I rubbed my eyes free from tiredness and stretched my arms out. "Yep, it's going to disappoint."
I stood up and walked over to the window, opening it and taking a breath of fresh air, "It's nice outside."
Oooh! I can go to the lake and look for something to draw again!
I quickly pulled on a red hoodie and some shorts and grabbed my stuff, quietly walking to the door and cracking open the door. I looked back to see if I woke Alycia up, I could see her roll over and snort. I quietly laughed and pushed the creaking door open, rushing outside and closing it behind me.
"Now, on with my day," I said, pulling my hood over my head and stepping out of the fading shadows. I ran to the neighboring place and peeked over at the teacher's cabin. The lights were still out and the patrolers were asleep in their own cabins. I was safe til breakfast at eight thirty-five.
It was currently 6:27 am. Quickly checking my phone then putting it in my pocket with a smirk.
"In the clear," I said, looking around once more before slowly stepping backwards and into the cabin shadows. I looked at my fingers against the cabin wood and took a breath in, knowing I was breaking rule # 5 by doing this.
"What do you think you're doing up this early?" A familiar voice asked, turning me around. I looked up at Kai, his hair messy and unbrushed. Wearing some pants and a hoodie, hiding his revealed chest underneath though it was chilly outside.
"What are you doing up?" I asked, looking him in the eye. He rolled his eyes and pointed at the bushes, blushing slightly.
"I was taking a leak," Kai stood up and stuffed his pants in his pockets and blushed badly.
I laughed, "Really? In the bushes? HA! I wish I saw that!!"
"Oh, you wish?" He asked, cornering me against the cabin wall, placing his hand on the wood. He leaned down close to me, our lips barely brushing and wrapped his other arm around my waist. Kai pulled my closer to his chest and smiled. "What do you wish to see?"
"Let me go, I wanna go draw," I said, pushing against his smooth chest.
"Oooo, what do you want to draw so badly?" He asked, biting his lip and smiling.
"Shut up, it's not disgusting and inappropriate!"
"After some time with me, it will be."
"Go away!"
"Never," Kai said, leaning in and completing the kiss. I curled up my fingers into a fist, blushing and tense. I closed my eyes and pressed against his, immediately getting a reaction as Kai pressed harder. "Mmmm."
Jesus, this guy is weird...
"Okay, that's enough," I said, pulling away and patting his chest. I picked up my things from off of the ground and walked into the woods. Kai followed and I turned to face him, "No, stay. Be a good puppy and stay."
"No, I can't have you going into the woods by yourself," Kai said, walking past me and holding a tree limb up. "After you, Angel."
"Dummy," I muttered as I walked past him. Kai rolled his eyes and followed me, both of us heading into the woods as the sun began to rise in the sky.
****************
"Ugh, how far is this 'lake' of yours?" Kai groaned behind me. I rolled my eyes and stopped, remembering my path and setting off. This drawing quest thing was a ONE WOMAN job. Not a BOY AND GIRL WANDERING THROUGH THE FOREST job.
"Shut. Up. You're pissing me off," I said, glaring over my shoulder at him and stomping past another large tree. "Please. It's really annoying that you joined me anyways. I never asked you're sorry ass to come with me."
"I told you once, and I'll say it again," Kai said, jumping up on a log and balancing himself on it before continuing. "that I don't want a sexy vixen like yourself to go wandering in the woods alone without some backup. Guys come in here and scare the living shit out of some girls. I know, I've seen me do it!"
"That's nice," I replied, lifting a branch up and spotting the lake. "It's good to know that you were a nice piece of ass that scared girls for fun when no one was around to get you in trouble."
"You think I have a nice ass?" Kai asked, jumping off of the log and walking next to me with an arched eyebrow and a smirk on his face. I sighed and walked over to the boulder and pulled my art book and pencil out and placed them on it.
"Whatever," I mumbled, waiting for an idea to come into my head. I bit on the eraser and thought, looking around at the grass and sparkling water. Kai walked over to the lake and sat down, pulling his knees to his chin and resting his head on top.
"This is nice," Kai said, looking at the rippling water. I sighed and bit down harder onto the eraser, looking at the sky then at the ground and back again. Maybe a landscape drawing? Nah, I'm not going to be happy with the final result. I just know it. Maybe a animal of some kind?
I glanced down at Kai and had to do a double take. Wait, Kai's a werewolf, right?
Tapping the end of my pencil down onto the page, I began drawing Kai. Starting at his soft hair and trailing it down to his shoulders, drawing his back arched forward as he rested his head on his knees. His fluffy tail curled behind him as he gazed into the water.
The Kai in my picture looked somewhat bored, but happy like the real one. His jacket had the same creases and marks, jeans had the same shadows and dirt stains. I started to sketch out his tail when I looked up and Kai was gone, The hell did he go?
"Is that me?" Kai asked from besides me, making me jump and almost drop the sketch book and pencil. He looked over the picture and blushed, looking impressed. "Crap, that's amazing."
"Um, thanks," I said, blushing and wanting to die. I looked down at the picture again, thinking that it didn't even look good. His tail was kinda looking like crap, but, Kai said it was fine.
Thank God he likes it, at least it's not bad. I thought, smiling slightly then shaking my head. I turned back and looked up at Kai, "Can...you go back over to where you were sitting?"
"Oh, sure," Kai said, blinking and rushing over to his spot. He sat down and continued to watch the water. Soon he passed out, his breathing slowing as his heart rate went down. I laughed and finished the sketch, wanting to head back to the site.
"Kai, wake up," I said, shaking him. Kai stretched his arms out and blinked his eyes open and looked up at me. He smiled sluggishly and yawned. "Good afternoon, Sleeping Beauty. Get up, we gotta get to the rules thing again."
"We've been twenty times," Kai said, reaching up and pulling me down by my hoodie top. I landed on his chest with a thud and was face to face with Kai again. He smiled and put his other arm under his head. "Why don't we stay here for a while longer and talk? We haven't done that since grade school, right?"
"Before you ditched my for some reason out of nowhere, yeah. It's been a while," I said, rolling my eyes and resting my head on his chest. Kai sighed and laid his head down, looking at the sky blankly. Another pause found it's way between us and sat there.
God, I made things so awkward. Why did I bring that up? Because I still hold a grudge, or because I want to know that reason he left me by myself?
"You remember when we first met?"
"Huh?"
I looked up, staring at Kai in shock, Where did THAT come from?
"It was so weird to see a girl I've never met run up to me and say we were best friends right off the bat," Kai said, still staring at the stars. He smiled while saying this, as if he were remembering it, too. "I mean, I never spoke to a girl so enthusiastic about a friendship before. The girls there were all giggling about stuff and only watching us guys run around and play tag.
"And when I met you, it was a refreshing moment of bliss. It was both amazing and terrifying at the same time. I couldn't believe you could be so brave around a kid like me," Kai looked down at me and smiled even wider. "Besides, you were looking really cute in that blouse, I couldn't even think straight! My head was spinning so much I could've puked!"
"Kai!!" I squealed, jumping onto his lap and punching his chest lightly. "Quit saying stuff like that!!"
"I can't, it's just how I say things sometimes," Kai said, catching my fist and holding it. I blushed and covered my face, hiding it from view. Kai chuckled and smiled again. "Geez, you're so hard to read nowadays, I never know how you're really feeling anymore!"
"Well, I'm embarrassed! How's that?!"
"Better," Kai said, closing his eyes and sighing. He looks back up at me, gazing into my eyes deeply like he was gazing at my soul. "But, it's not how you're really feeling, is it?"
"Urm," I mumbled, looking away.
Of course it wasn't. Now, it's not even fake. I couldn't lie to myself anymore, I just couldn't. Everytime Kai did something, my heart would skip a beat. I knew it was stupid when I started to do this flirt thing! I wouldn't know when something was real or not; when Kai was faking or ready to go all the way! GAAAH! I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!!!
"Ha, you're just as cute as back then," Kai mumbled, reaching up to hold my face in his hand. I blushed and looked down at him. "Do you still hate me? After all these years, do you really hate me?"
"Well, yeah, I do!" I said, screwing my eyes shut and making myself look defiant. I crossed my arms and pouted my lip. "You left me alone for no reason and didn't tell me! I was so worried that you hated me I decided to hate you back! Plus, all the people you slept with kept picking on me for no reason and saying really rude stuff!"
"I never really knew why and what was wrong, but, I hated you for not telling me!" I yelled, smacking his hand away from me and standing up. I was shaking, How could he act like nothing was wrong? This was bothering me for a while, I guess. Noting my reaction, anyways.
"I didn't sleep with all of those girls, Yushi," Kai said, shaking his head. I opened my eyes, Yushi? Why was he saying my last name instead of the cute nickname he gave me? I can't believe I actually liked it though...
"Really? I have my doubts," I muttered, shaking my head and sitting back down. Kai made a small 'oof' sound and laid back down, staring up at me with a scowl.
He turned his head to the side and looked at a tree, "Whatever."
Another silence, This is starting to turn out to be an anime thing, great...
"Crap, I did it again," Kai said, putting a hand to his face and shivering. He blushed and peeked at me between his pointer and middle finger. "Why do you make me do these things?!"
"WHAT THINGS, IDIOT?! ALL I'VE DONE IS GET EMOTIONAL AND MAKE THIS WEIRD AND CREEPY!!"
Kai stopped and removed his hand, giving me a surprised and serious look, "You're not creepy or weird. You're rather charming, Angel."
"Wha-?"
"I mean, you're really cute and I'm being serious. That's all I'm saying," Kai said, sitting up and staring at me. I looked around and sighed, We're about to kiss, huh?
"We need to stop flirting," Kai said, grabbing my waist. I stopped and blinked a few times, looking down at his hands in embarrassment. OH MY GOD, WHAT DOES HE MEAN?!?!?!
"This isn't even fun anymore," Kai said, pulling me closer to him. He looked up at me when we were really close and sighed. "Everytime we 'flirt' you get me turned on."
"Isn't that the point?" I asked, placing my hands on his shoulders. "I mean, isn't that really what flirting does?"
"Not for me, no. When I want to flirt with a girl I like, I want to make sure that they know I care about them and think about them daily," Kai looked me over and smiled. His hands slid up my waist and under my hoodie, touching my bare skin and making me blush.
Why did I leave my cabin without a shirt? Then again, I didn't know I was going to have a personal bodyguard follow me into the woods!!
"And," Kai mumbled, his soft hands going up my back. My cheeks became worse. Kai smiled and moved his hands to where they'd go up my front. "It makes me want more than just a simple kiss. I want all of it. You. I want you under me at my dorm when no one's around, letting me do what I please with no fear of rejection."
"Kai," I whispered, blushing. Pulling Kai closer.
We sat in silence as we stared at each other, smiles on our dumb faces as the sun rose higher in the sky. Kai coughed and his sleeve and lightly pushed me off of him, "We should get going. It's almost lunch time and you know how much I love to eat."
"Yeah.... I guess," I mumbled, standing up and dusting my clothes off. I picked up my stuff and followed Kai to the campsite, dying inside. I've got to stop being so attached to him or something will go wrong and my heart will be broken for weeks afterward. He's a player and always will be...
