Chapter 44 - CHAPTER FORTY FOUR

LOGAN'S POV

Seeing my wife in her brother's arms, bought an anger, not at Jamie nor at Jerome, but at myself.

I abandoned my wife of just two days to fall into a deep sleep like, I'm f***ing sleeping beauty, only for her kiss to wake me.

I understand that the bullet to my neck did more damages than I would have thought possible. I'm lucky to be alive, alert and walking, which is not something I can say about my girl.

Jerome placed her on a chain on the opposite side of me.

"Hey"; I said. 'I'm over here" I added, with my hands up, chuckling.

"Her name's written on that chair," mom said placing a plate of pancakes, eggs and bacon, with a glass of milk and a glass of a orange juice? No coffee?,

"You wanna switch?" Jerome asks me as Jessica runs into the room with a wide excited smile, sitting on the chair on the other side of Jamie.

That's settled then! I remained opposite the Scotts, observing their caring interaction with each other, especially the way they hover over Jamie. Something is definitely wrong. My next move will be to find out.

Jessica declined the food that my mother's maid placed in front of her, "my God, this is too much" she exclaimed, "I'm on a diet" she wines.

Chuckling, "and there goes your chances of becoming prom queen" Justin teases her, as she turns to scowl at him, stabbing her eggs.

"Eat, young lady"; my mother scold her, before going back to the kitchen, returning with two bottles in her hand. She took one pill out from each bottle, that she puts into Jamie's plate. Jamie curls her lips in disgust.

" Problem?"mom asked Jamie, with raised eyebrows.

"No ma'am" Jamie chuckles, as mom, happily returned to her seat next to my father, kissing him on the head.

Looking around the table right now, made me feel like the guest as mom takes care of the Scotts. Something she seems to clearly enjoy.

Jamie, who avoided looking at me since she came downstairs, finally looked my way, but she seemed nervous.

I know, I came on strong earlier when she lied about how she felt, but it hurt that she lied. Her health is more important to me than my own and I will take her to a specialist to deal with whatever her injuries are. Lying to each other is not the way I want in our life, especially lying about her pains.

The ringing of grandfather's phone, brought me out of my thoughts, as I turned to look at grandfather, anxious for good news.. I look at Jamie again.

"Eat" I mouthed to her with an encouraging smile.

As she nodded, my eyes met Justin who indicated my grandfather.

"Yes, I'm shocked" he exclaimed, wide eye. "Were there any casualties?" he ask, genuinely concern. "What?" he exclaimed again. "No they were here"; he said, as Justin. and I made eye contact. Neither are we afraid, nor do I care. I'm truly, sorry and thankful no one was hurt. just let the insurance company do their investigation" he paused. "Yes keep me updated" he said, before hanging up.

"Mother****ers,"he muttered. before continuing his breakfast.

Everyone's eyes were on my grandfather, "nothing here, just eat your breakfast" he said without looking up, waving us away with his hand.

As I leaned down to continue eating my now cold breakfast, I caught Jamie's attention and her troubled look.

Smiling I stabbed a piece of pancake, I lifted it up to her, before consuming it.

After I was finish eating, I followed grandfather out with Justin in tow.

"You hit them hard, you didn't do a gradual buildup" my grandfather turned to stare me down.

Giving him, my most confused expression, "now what are we talking about?" I asked.

He smirked, shrugging, *so it's like that?" mused, walking to the drinks cabinet.

"Isn't it a bit too early for that?" I asked.

Chuckling, he poured himself a shot and turned to me with a raised glass, "celebrating your first ...." his voice trails off, taking the shot "Oh you you what" he mumbles, putting the glass down.

"Now your wife" he gives me a stern look, "you need to stay home today, you need to spend time with her. Bottom line," he paused, "you need to talk" he said, with a twist at the corners of his mouth and a worried expression.

Tensing up, "what is it grandfather, what is going on with Jamie? How bad is her injuries?I asked him in a painful tone. " Grandfather, you know I won't be able to handle it if anything happens to my girl" I told him, throwing myself on the sofa.

"Just talk to her Logie and I suggest after you talk to her take her away, just the two of you" grandfather suggests, a suggestion that I wholeheartedly agrees with, but,

"I can't, not now" I sighed, putting my head in my hands.

"Justin and I will handle what you've started and we'll communicate with you every step of the way." grandfather confirms.

Justin and my dad strolled into the den, joining grandfather and I.

"Would the insurance pay up?" dad asks shutting the door behind him.

I shook my head, was all they needed to know. Standing up, I turned to my father.

"Where's Jamie?" I asked, already moving towards the doorway.

"On the patio by the pool" Justin told me. I nod and walked off, finally to speak to my wife concerning the extent of her injuries and informed her if what I've been up to since I was released from the hospital.

I entered the kitchen, to use the back entrance, smiling at my parents workers, when my eyes fell on Mrs. Stanley.

My throat instantly dried up, as I approached her, taking a huge gulp, opening my arms to her.

"Don't champ, he wouldn't want that. just avenge him"
