On the small unnamed settlement, Sir Scottsworth Pillming sat on his porch, smoking his pipe, watching as the citizens of his town built up new houses and businesses to start their new lives.
The sound of nails being hammered in and wood being sawed was all that could be heard for miles, the sound was little concern to the natives of this land though, because there weren't any around. The new settlement was surrounded by the vast desert on three sides and the beautiful blue ocean on another, looking out to the sea in the far distance Scottsworth could see the island of Antosa, known as treasure island because the Kingdom of Oceanlandia's treasury was located there along with the Merchants Guild
Scottsworth let out a huge puff of smoke and sigh
"Ah what a relief. To be away from all those magic lovers in Oceanlandia. Here people can be free from those Witches and Wizards, Sorcerers and Sorceress, Demons and Angels. In this small little settlement, everyone is peaceful and normal."
Right as he went for another huge at his pipe he noticed a man on a camel walking through the town.
"Hello there." The man said in a booming voice.
Scottsworth arose from his seat to meet the mysterious man.
The man was a tall figure standing at about seven foot, muscular and had a large robe on, with a pistol on the left side of his hip and a sword on the right.
"What are ye, a soldier, a mercenary, a bounty hunter, hopefully not a bandit?" Scottsworth questioned
"No sir. I'm a Medjay, a member of the special police force of Sultan Uban." The man answered
"So what's your business here?"
"Nothing sir, just passing through on my way to Finnel City. Although I do not remember this settlement being here last time I came through."
"That's because it's brand new, me and my people left the city life of Bathbay, to escape the culture of Magic of Oceanlandia."
"If it's magic you hate, I'm afraid you came to the wrong place. The land of Seraphy is full of Genies, Seers, and Phantoms."
"What place isn't. This place seemed remote enough to escape it. You don't happen to be a wizard do you?"
"I dabble in the arts." The Medjay pulled out his palm and conjured up a green energy ball.
Watching this from afar, Scottsworth rival for leadership, Bonmin Ukelly was watching this.
"Son of a wench." He whispered "I always knew Scottsworth was a fraud. He's a magician, an acolyte of Jezebel. He must be stopped."
Back over with Scottsworth the Medjay hoped back onto his camel and began to ride off, he turned back one final time and asked.
"In case of emergency! What's the name of this settlement?"
"We've yet to name it but Magicians aren't welcome here!" Scottsworth answered
"Ha, don't worry, there's a militia based nearby and they'll be the one who responds to any emergency you have."
"Good to know. By now!"
The medjay left and Scottsworth returned to smoking his pipe on his porch not thinking about the encounter until later at the tavern.
At the tavern Scottsworth stood high on the stage surrounded by the townsfolk, he shouted.
"My people we have been here for little more than a fortnight, and we've made amazing progress, and on the Eve of election, I declare my candidacy for Mayor."
The audience cheered
Scottsworth then went onto say
"Free from Masters and Mages, that's my motto! Hell let it be the town motto! No Kings! No Magic! Only Hard work and Freedom!"
The crowd was almost uncontrollable with excitement, it was clear Scottsworth would win the election in a landslide, until Bonmin Ukelly walked in and shouted
"Lies! Lies! You're a liar Scottsworth Pillming!"
"Hello Bonmin, on what baseless claims do you attempt to slander my character with today." Scottsworth said none too pleased to see Bonmin
Bonmin barged up onto the stage knocking Scottsworth over, and he shouted for the entire town to hear.
"Scottsworth Pillming is a Magician!"
The entire town gasped,
"I witnessed with my own eyes just this morning, he was talking to one of the natives, when the native man pulled out a magic energy orb!" Bonmin said
"Even if that doesn't prove he's in league with Jezebel!" One of the townsfolk retorted
Bonmin wasn't finished saying
"When the local was living, he said something about a militia nearby, an armed militia of Magic users, and Scottsworth simply replied with good to know. It's clear that Scottsworth has brought us here to be slaughtered. So he can use witchcraft to raise us from the dead, so we can be his undead slaves!" Bonmin shouted
Scottsworth arose from the floor enraged,
"These false allegations have gone too far. Bonmin, I challenge you to a duel!"
The crowd gasped.
Bonmin smiled at the chance to kill his longtime rival.
"A duel? I accept, what time?" Bonmin answered
"We draw our pistols at midnight!" Shouted Scottsworth.
"Sounds fine to me."
Later at midnight, both men arrived outside the town in the vast desert.
There were three men, Scottsworth, Bonmin, and Welbe the tavern owner as the witness.
"Alright you guys you know the rules, fifteen steps and then fire."
Both men followed suit, they turned their backs to each other and then walked fifteen feet away, then turned around.
The first one to the trigger was Bonmin, firing his flintlock pistol, striking Scottsworth through the heart.
Scottsworth coughed up blood, and blood poured from his chest, yet he still stood, he then pulled the trigger of his gun, striking Bonmin in the head. Unlike Scottsworth, Bonmin instantly fell dead on the sand.
Scottsworth then fell over from his wound, as Welbe ran up to him.
"How, how did you survive that?" Welbe questioned
"It wouldn't have mattered if he shot me through the head. I still would have stood up long enough to kill him." Scottsworth uttered before slipping out of consciousness, and slipping the mortal coil an hour later.
