The Battle was faring well despite the goblins overwhelming numbers and the fact that the Company was already weary from their last battle. Their morale was high as if they were possessed by the Gods. These fowl goblins were no match.
Iegor and his troops were not easily toppled, even more so with the aid of Draco and Fyeon, and yet. The Goblins numbers didn't seem to be wavering no matter how many of them they killed, twenty more seemed to take their place. What's worse is, they were becoming more resourceful in their assault. Attacking with spears on the backs of huge wild boars. They also took to the air on bats, large enough to grab hold of a man and dropping him to his doom. Iegor and his Company may have fought like Gods, but they were not Gods. This fact became clear by the cries of his troops being slathered.
" By the Gods! , What are those things? " Eric uttered in shock, As several large creatures descended from the shadows and began attacking the company.
" They must be the Brutes Fyeon describe " Iegor replied After he smashed two goblins with his shield against the rocks before taking their heads.
These Brutes were relentless; swinging fiercely around spike clubs with deadly force, striking down whoever stood before them in a bloody mess. They were no smarter than their lesser counterparts, but they were powerful. Their arrival quickly changed the battle in a very bad way.
" We can't stay here Iegor, We'll be massacred " Eric uttered frantically. As he watched these brute swatted his fellow troops like rag dolls.
" Agreed " Iegor quickly replied almost out of breath " You and Pyanna lead the troops out of the valley. We'll bring up the rear ".
Eric and Pyanna wasted no time questioning his command and mounted their horses to lead the way. They allowed nothing to stop them. Getting the company out of the valley was the main goal nothing else mattered. Iegor and Peirim trailed behind with Fyeon and his pack, while Draco and his Dragons kept the flyers at bay. Because of where they were they couldn't use their flames out of fear of hurting their allies below.
They stop nothing. Ridding hard and swift down the winding trail, nothing to halt their paste. The Brutes that engaged them were left far behind swinging their clubs stupidly in the wind. The other goblins, unfortunately, was not so easily evaded. They trailed close behind on their boars. Nothing a few arrows couldn't handle.
The valley's path held many curves and twist making the end seemingly impossible to reach, but the way out which was drawing near. It was a large tunnel through the rocky cliffs that gave way to the other side. Freedom was within reach they believed, but Fyeon didn't feel the same way. The Goblins were no longer behind them. He Instantly knew something was amiss. It was mutually felt, as he and Iegor exchanged looks of concern.
" I thought Goblins never give up once they had an enemy in their sights ". Iegor Uttered, firmly gripping his horse's reigns as it gallops down the path.
" They don't " Fyeon replied, breathing heavily as race alongside Iegor. " and that's why this is most unsettling ".
Fyeon's words filled Iegor with a deeper concern. Which leads him to wonder if they may be heading into a trap? The answer came faster than he expected. Peirrim called out to him and pointed up to the cliffs. There he saw Pyanna climbing up the side. Once to the top, she ran down to the edge just opposite the pathway a hundred yards away. She drew her bow and pointed it with perfect form at the top of the pathway at an invisible target. Looking to where she had her bow aimed he could see nothing, but knew Pyanna's eyes showed her that there was something there.
The company rode into a Savannah they only needed to cross it to reach the exit. Their steadies were beginning to tire, breathing heavily through the cold valley air as they race on. Passing Pyanna still holding her position firmly. Iegor Fyeon and Peirrim remained to the back as Eric kept to the front leading the company forward. Everything seemed fine for the moment till they saw movement ahead.
Iegor saw Draco and his fellow Dragons flew over the path and turned around suddenly. At the same time, Pyanna shut three arrows one after another at the top of the pathway. As if on cue three Goblins suddenly appeared in time to be struck in the heart, killing them instantly, As they fell to the ground below. Several more Goblins appeared above the path welding bows and arrows. They began firing upon the company. Eric quickly became aware and took action.
" SHIELDS UP " Eric yelled as they charged ahead to the pathway.
Draco and his fellow Dragons were now free to attack and Rained fire upon the cliffs burning all that stood upon it and ensuring none would return above. Hope was looking brighter. Liberation was at hand.
Dawn was approaching. Its lights were beginning to creep over the valley walls. The endless darkness was coming to an end. The company race steadily forward. The way out was but a few feet away, but the Goblins had no intention of letting them leave. Once again they appeared out of nowhere. The ground beneath the company had begun to shake and clasp, bringing fort the Brutes they thought they left behind. The Brutes crawled out from the ground grabbing whoever they could, horse and all before tossing them far. The company did its best to avoid the Brutes grasp, but a few were still caught by them.
" DON'T STOP. KEEPING MOVING WHERE ALMOST THERE "
Eric yelled, to keep pace.
Charging ahead they felt the ground shake yet again. Iegor look back behind him and saw The ground split apart and from its depths, a Brute began to climb out, but this one was different. He was black as tar with bright yellow eyes. He wore a chest plate made from bones and a red loincloth around his waist. He was missing his left arm which he replaces with a simple spike.
" Vordac! " Fyeon Snarled, Before digging his claws into the dirt to stop his pace.
" Am guessing that's the black Goblin you mentioned earlier " Iegor Uttered, stopping his horse as well.
" The same " Fyeon's snarled.
" It seems the Gods wasn't merciful in Granting you his death " Iegor replied steadying his horse.
" I NEED NOT FOR YOUR GODS TO GRANT ME ANYTHING! " Fyeon snap " But nevertheless he is indeed alive ".
Vordac looks across the newly created trench casting a menacing look and snorting heavily in the air. Vordac raised his hand and suddenly a purple light began emanating within his palm forming an orb. Without a word, he shut it high pass Iegor, Fyeon, and Peirrim, Passing over the entire company racing ahead. Till finally colliding with the rocks above the pathway in a massive explosion. The explosion caused a large rock to give way. Eric quickly orders the company to evade to avoid being crush beneath the rock that was now blocking the pathway.
Vordac had more to give. He Let out a monstrous roar echoing throughout the valley and all fell silent for a moment. Iegor soon began to hear a strange sound coming from the trench. Focusing his eyes upon it. Suddenly he saw thousands upon thousands of Goblins crawling out from the trench. Vordac stared at Fyeon and cast a sinister smug smile at him. If it wasn't clear before it was now. Escape was not an option.
" Prepare yourself Iegor " Fyeon Uttered Keeping his focus on Vordac " The true battle is about to begin ".
