Chapter 24 - The Burning Mountain

Finally reaching the center of the ruins, Hunter found the goblin king sitting on a throne made of bones. A quick glance over showed that the bones appeared to be mostly animalistic or monsteristic, however Hunter did catch the scent of a few human bones and even a human skull hidden deeper in the throne. The goblins, in fear, all backed away from the floating green fiery eyes, and as they watched, a human began to appear, the green devilish flames wrapping around his arms like snakes, and his eyes glowing bright but sinister green.

The goblin king shivered as this human looked upon him. He was a level five feral monster, but this little child made him fear like he had never done before. As he watched the human smiled with a sharp sneer as he looked at all the other goblins around him. As the goblins' eyes widened, they heard this human growl in their tongue. "You aren't worthy of my blades." Then the human lounged forward and grabbed the goblin king as a massive blast of green fire burst forth in a ring that spreads across the entire ruins, turning every single goblin into piles of ash. The flames continued forward, passing through the rocks, killing the remaining goblins, and setting all the trees on the mountain on fire. Hunter grabbed the goblin king who cowered before him.

Smashing the bone throne, Hunter glared at the goblin king as he stomped towards him. "So where's this ritual table at, you little shit?!"

Shaking in fear, the goblin king pointed towards a decrepit church that had no doors, and was nearly all collapsed. Hunter dragged the goblin king into the church, finding a strange altar built of dark black stones, with red blood filled into vats set up all around it. Three candles stood on the table and as Hunter looked closer, he noticed a rippling wave that seemed to shimmer as if an extreme heat wave was taking place at the center of the table.

"Oh ho ho. What's a little devil like you messing in my plans? I thought I told all your kind to await my orders in Hell." A creepy and cold voice could be heard coming from the shimmer.

Hunter scowled at the shimmer in response. "Who the fuck are you?"

Malicious laughter could be heard coming from the ripple, and as he continued to laugh the goblin king came forth on his knees, shaking uncontrollably. "He is the Nameless One. The great King of Darkness." He squeaked as he spoke in goblinook, then he began to bow and touch his head to the floor towards the the altar.

"Mhmm. You are a devil, yet you don't seem to be made right." As the voice spoke, Hunter felt as if he was being scanned, all his senses were telling him that he was in extreme danger. "Ah I see. You're half Kidelio, I thought I had your kind hunted down until they became extinct." The Nameless One chuckled horribly as if he was thinking of a way to kill Hunter now.

"You think I'm afraid of some god? As a devil, it's in my nature to go against and kill the gods." Hunter spoke firmly, taking a step forward as he pushed against the mental power that the Nameless One was applying onto him.

"Hahaha, the little devil thinks I'm a god. Listen here little boy. If the gods were mortals, I would be their god. You stand no chance against me." The voice continued to laugh manically, to Hunter and the goblin king, it sounded much like glass scraping across a chalk board. "Little boy, since you slaughtered my goblin army, and have delayed my plans; this will be your only warning. Continue to interfere later on, and I will kill you and everyone you care about, then I will destroy everything you ever dreamed to save."

With that threat, the dark shimmer disappeared, the candles snuffing out as if blown out by a wind. Hunter scowled and grabbed the goblin king by the neck before he spread his feathered wings and took off, flying high up into the cavern before diving back down and gliding through the gate and down the tunnel. As he flew down the tunnel, he quickly gathered and condensed all of the hundreds of thousands of goblin Divinities, and instantly absorbed them into his arms.

As the two exited the cave, they came across a massive green blaze all across the mountain. Soaring up into the sky, Hunter looked back at the mountain and saw that his fire was only on the mountain, and it had taken an unnatural form, acting like leaves to the trees, and forming a fire wall, stopping anyone from entering. He nodded to himself as he thought; [Better that no one can access those ruins before we can. But first we have to get to Siol so we can set up a base for the children, then we can try and find time of deciphering the ruins.]

Hunter flew south, passing over the field of flame, and as they passed, he could hear the goblin king wail as he lost all of his hope for getting free from the devil. As the sun rose in the East, the two could see a repaired Adenville alongside the sparkling river. Hunter chuckled as he flew over the wall and saw the crowds of people, many of them finding their loved ones and holding joy in being with one another again. As he flew over, many people stopped and looked up, watching as Hunter flew towards the church in the center of the city.

Flying low, Hunter threw the goblin king onto the steps of the church as he himself landed next to his brothers. The goblin king looked up fearfully as he listened to the yelling of the crowd. Spartacus raised his hands, silencing the crowd before he cast OUTCRY on himself.

"Yesterday you suffered, but today is a new day. A day of rejoicement. Let our celebration start off with the execution of this monster that wronged you all." He guided his hand towards the cowering goblin, who was shaking too much to even stand up. Showing a toothy grin, Hunter walked forward and picked the goblin king up again, forcing him to face the crowd as they yelled and cursed him. Leaning forward slightly to whisper into his ear, Hunter softly said, "I'll see you in Hell then, my little play thing."

As the goblin squealed, green flames sprouted from Hunter arms, blowing through the goblin's chest and quickly spreading till it consumed the goblin entirely. For five minutes the goblin king shrieked and thrashed as the flames slowly ate away his body and most of his soul. Finally the flames died down, and all that was left a pile of ash and a ball of glowing light. Soon that ball absorbed into Hunter's hand and the crowd was left speechless, believing that that ball had been the goblin's soul, and that the black angel had just devoured his soul.

Hunter made sure that his blindfold was back on his face, covering it from the crowd, and tucked his wings away as he turned back to his brothers; entering the church together as they went to rejoin with their family. Inside the church, they found their family gathered in the meeting room, along with the bishop and Alexi.

"I must thank you all so much for saving us and slaying all those goblins. You can tell me however much you want, and Adenville will generously give it to you." The bishop smiled as he raised his hands in a friendly gesture.

Spartacus gently shook his head as he looked at the bishop. "There is no major need for these things. We did what we deemed was right, nothing more and nothing less."

"It would not sit right on my conscious if we did not return your generosity without anything." The bishop spoke softly as he continued to gently push Spartacus, trying to get him to concede so they could give gifts of gratitude.

Hunter came forward as he glanced at Spartacus questionably. Spartacus nodded, and so Hunter turned back to look at the bishop before he spoke. "If you want to gift us with things than let it be two large wagons so that our family can ride in. Also to the North of Adenville, the field that the goblin army was slaughtered in has been surrounded by my flames, called FLAMES OF SIN. These flames will chase away all other creatures, preserving the goblins' bodies so Adenville can send people to collect the tens of thousands of feral cores and use those profits to improve both Adenville and the neighboring villages. The final thing is the mountain that the goblins made their den, I set it a blaze, permanently. I want you to spread the word, all who go to that mountain shall be seeking death."

Both Alexi and the bishop widened their eyes upon hearing this. Thinking to himself, the bishop slightly frowned as he looked at Hunter. [What is in the mountain that he is trying to hide it by creating an impenetrable defense keeping everyone away?]

Recomposing himself, the bishop smiled and nodded his head as he looked between the four brothers. "The two wagons can definitely be handled, we'll have them set at the Eastern Gate before you leave town. As for the mountain, we will put up posters telling everyone it is now a forbidden area. Though I must say thank you, since it will most likely become a very scenic view thanks to it's unnatural occurrence. I must also give thanks to you boys for the feral core gift that you left us. I was going to ask if you boys wished to go to the capital to meet the pope, however since you all seem to have made plans on your own I wont hold you all back. I wish you the best on your journeys."

The bishop stood up and walked out the back door after he was done speaking, informing a priest of all the new tasks as he headed towards his office. The priest ran off to take care of what the bishop asked of him, and the head priest was then alerted that the bishop wished to meet with him.

Alexi looked at the party as he thought to himself. Finally, he sat up and leaned forward as he looked at Hunter. "If you boys are busy you don't need to go hunt the dragon with me. After dealing with the Feniri, and since my brother is now dead, I've decided that it will be best for me to return to my province and begin running my family's estates as I should be. If you ever need to find me, you can find me in the capital since my province is not too far from there."

Alexi than stood up and walked out the door as well, most likely going to rejoin with his party members and begin their journey back to the capital. The children looked amongst themselves as they all smiled, cheered, and shed tears of joy; forming massive groups of hugs as they hugged the four brothers.

Looking amongst the crowd, Spartacus smiled as he grabbed Asani and Tarenia. "Let's go home." The two girls blushed upon hearing this, but neither of them tried pulling away from Spartacus as everyone began walking out of the church and heading down the Eastern main street. Walking side by side, Hunter gently took Stephanie's hand in his own as he gave her a smile, causing her to blush and shyly smile back. Orion had picked Quixi up and as he was carrying her in his arms, she was busy rubbing her head into his neck as she sighed contentedly. Ian and Sylvia walked side by side, Ian wrapping his arm around Sylvia's and causing her to fidget and turn scarlet red as she lost most of her function. Ian chuckled lightly as he gently lead her forwards towards the Eastern Gate.
