Chapter 12 - The Hunting Party

The bishop looked around the room at everyone, stopping as he looked at Hunter standing beside Sparticus as if he was a subordinate. The bishop shivered thinking what this implied, [Does that mean that that eight year old is the God King? These Feniri will be easily dealt with for sure, but it's better if we don't get on their bad side if ever.]

"Welcome powerful adventurers. As you all know, we had spotted a pack of Feniri that we requested a kill order on. I am afraid to say that we were a little too slow. The Feniri have layed waste the village of Dunham which is the farthest village from Adenville. Stephanie here is the lone survivor of the incident." He gestured to the black haired girl sitting beside him. "Six days ago the village of Dunham was attacked by the Feniri pack of thirty fully grown adults. The great hero Abelard Stormbreaker gave his life to injure the wolves. They are injured at this moment, meaning that they will be hiding to heal which gives us time to evacuate the other villages. The three nearest villages have already arrived at the town while the others are rushing here as we speak. We have sent word to the military incase we can't end them soon, however the army won't arrive for half a month. Meaning we are on our own with a city nearly numbering in the ten thousands."

The bishop looked around the room as most of the adventurers' faces became stern as they thought about what the consequences would be if they failed this hunt.

Spartacus looked around at all the people with grim faces. "Can someone, in detail, tell me about these Feniri?"

Alexi turned and looked at him, "Feniri are a level 6 Feral wolf beast, descended from the immortal Savage Wolf, Fenrir. They have fur impenetrable to any weapons meaning the only weak spots are the eyes, nose, and mouth. They have two rows of sharp dagger like teeth with a jaw force capable of cleaving bones. They stand as tall as a horse and have a serpent's upper body for a tail allowing them to poison their victims. They have a howl ability that instigates immediate terror in their prey making it easier for them to kill. Just twenty fully grown Feniri can hunt and kill a fully grown Fire Drake. Very few ever live from an encounter with them, so this little girl is quite lucky."

"The only good news is that they never form packs bigger than fifty wolves." A large bearded man at the other end of the table stated as he scornfully glanced at Spartacus.

Spartacus nodded to the man before turning back towards Alexi, "How many do you think you can handle?"

"If we go head on I can for sure handle three of them, after that I don't know how long I'd be able to last. To even the odds, I think we should set up traps and try and bait them into the traps. We may not be able to kill them with conventional weapons but we can kill them with pit falls and dropping stones on them."

Spartacus scowled in confusion as he looked around at all the adventures gathered. "Since physical weapons aren't effective against these things, why not just use magic?"

A tall, skinny archer sitting across from Alexi snorted as he rolled his eyes at Spartacus. "Because brat, they're immune to almost all magic except for strong ice magic. Out of all the adventurers here, we only have one ice mage that accepted the contract. Stop thinking you're such a big shot here since you clearly don't know shit."

The bishop shook his head as he watched most of the other adventures join in on belittling the four. Alexi slammed the table as he glared at the other adventurers. "None of you are capable of competing against any of these children. You yourselves need to stop thinking you're such big shots!"

"Enough all of you. We need to figure out a way that will either end this crisis or buy us time till reinforcements arrive. So let's set aside our differences and work together to solve this problem." The bishop spoke sternly, looking at each adventurer in the eye, individually.

"No need for us to worry too much. You said there was only thirty correct?" Spartacus looked at the bishop, who in turn nodded. "I believe we should attack them head on. Each party will cover themselves and focus on handling one or two of the wolves. My brothers and I will kill the rest before helping you all deal with them."

[Brothers?! Are you talking about that other boy beside you and the Huntsman? Damn, you three are already powerful enough to be able to boast like that? Wait if that boy is also one of them, then who is he? Ahhh, my head hurts from all this!] The bishop nodded his head as he went deep in thought. Surprise appeared on Alexi and his friend's faces as they looked at the boys. Stephanie shook her head as she wondered why these children were so arrogant. The other adventurers made an outcry, cussing the boys and saying that they were nothing more than runts and garbage.

The bishop put his hand up, silencing everyone. He turned to Hunter, looking deeply as he thought. "Huntsman, is what was said true? Can you and your brothers really handle the Feniri?"

Hunter looked around the room at all the adventurers as many showed anger and hostility towards them. "Yes we can kill them, however our second brother is back at our camp protecting the rest of our family. We will need his help when dealing with the Feniri."

Shock appeared on Spartacus's and Orion's face as a they looked at Hunter. The bishop nodded his head as he thought. "If the church takes your family in for a few days and keeps them safe, will your second brother be able to fight with us?"

The three boys looked at each before Spartacus turned back to the bishop. "Yes he would be able to fight with us, but I want to make it clear that if anything happens to any of them, this town will not survive our wrath." The bishop shivered when he heard this. Spartacus turned back to Hunter. "Brother, are we three really not capable of handling the Feniri with out Ian's help?"

"It's just a gut feeling but I believe it would be wisest to have all four of us there, eldest brother." Hunter replied firmly as the other adventurers became even more agitated over these "boys" acting all tough. Stephanie looked between the three boys, shaking her head. [Seriously, what is their ego? A fully grown man has problems dealing with a single Feniri yet these three are saying they can handle the entire pack?!]

Stephanie finally couldn't hold it anymore. She snapped at the boys, angrily shouting. "What the hell do you think this is, some kind of game?! Hundreds of people were killed by these beasts, including a level four storm mage. Do you really think you children can handle these beasts!"

Alexi began laughing while his party mates snickered and shook their heads. "Little girl, that boy in black is able to beat me, a dragon slayer, in under five minutes, even when I go all out. If he says him and his brothers are able to handle this, not only will I believe them, but I'll follow 'em and help out where I can."

Stephanie and the other adventurers became shocked when they realized that this boy in black had truly beaten Alexi, not only a dragon slayer but a diamond class adventurer, fair and squarely.

"Dragon slayer, what dragon slayer? All I see is a worm squisher, old man." Hunter playfully stated as he smirked with a laugh. "If you really wanna go slay a full bred dragon, let me know and I'll go hunt it with you."

Alexi stopped, turning to Hunter before laughing. "Very well I'll take you up on that offer. How does hunting a fire Drake over by Algabor in five months and two weeks sound?"

"I'll meet up with you in three months and two weeks time back at the Hangman's Finger if that works with you?" Hunter showed a toothy grin.

"Deal!" Alexi patted Hunter on the shoulder as he smiled hugely. Getting back to the situation at hand Alexi turned to Spartacus. "If we are attacking head on, how should we handle this then?"

"Hunter and Ian can run aggro while everyone else focus on long range attacks targeting their eyes and mouths. We should poison the physical weapons while the mages us their magic to cause confusion by targeting the wolf in general. If worse comes to worse my brothers and I can go in melee and kill them all with blunt weapons."

Alexi nodded as he listened and the other adventurers, with their faces sour, slowly agreed to the plan. Stephanie looked confusedly at Spartacus. "What does aggro mean?"

Hunter walked up slapping the back of Spartacus's head. "Aggro is a term from our home land which means aggression. To draw aggro means to draw the beasts aggression so they don't target your party mates. This lead to a rise of a party class called a tank which is designed to have lots of health, strong resistance, and heavy and durable armor designed for taking hits. In our land ,parties usually had a specific line up. You'd have a tank who can deal some damage but mostly focuses on keeping the beasts targeted on him, then you have one or two melee fighters who have weaker resistance to attacks but have higher damage dealing. After that you have ranged units who also focus on dealing damage to the beast. You then also have at least one healer who's job is to make sure the tank's health doesn't fall allowing him to continue fighting. Then you have a ranged unit that focuses on buff spells, increasing damage and defense on their teammates. I don't know if your party line up in this land is similar to ours." Hunter stated tersely as he looked at Stephanie.

"Our party line up isn't like that at all." Alexi stated as awe appeared on not only his face but the other adventurers' faces as well. "Our parties don't normally have healers and spell casters focused for teammates, we instead purchase potions before hand. We also don't have a tank, normally when someone gets too injured someone else will draw the beast's attention so that we can heal them before getting back to the fight." The other adventurers nodded their heads as they looked at the three boys with a different light in their eyes.

"Okay so Ian and Hunter will tank, drawing their aggro. This will allow you all to focus on long range attacks. For you melee fighters, you'll be guarding the mages and archers as not all the wolves will aggro on those two. Ranged units, help the melee fighters take out the ones that don't target Hunter and Ian, then you can turn your focus on the other ones." Spartacus put his hand on the table as he got up and stretched, looking around the room.

"What about the healers? The only healers in the city are the priests and myself. How will your brothers be able to survive being attacked by so many monsters?" The bishop clasped his hands together, resting his chin on them as he worriedly looked at Spartacus.

"No need to worry about that. Hunter has natural regeneration, allowing him to excessively heal from his injuries while Ian has a strong resistance to everything, making it hard for these wolves to be able to inflict any damage on him." Orion laughed as he played with Quixi's hair, causing her to blush and start pushing him away before she hopped off his lap and hid behind Hunter.

"Big brother, Orion is bullying me." She bashfully looked up at Hunter with a pout. He just smirked before patting her head as he returned his attention to the table.

"Well than it would be best if we hurry and get everything ready and get to Dunham before they recover. Meet outside the church early tomorrow morning and then we'll get going." The bishop got up and walked out of the room. Everyone looked at each other before leaving in groups one by one.

"Well than Quixi, you wanted to have supper at Hangman's Finger again right?" Orion said as he pulled Quixi into his arms. She smiled bashfully while nodding her head excitedly. As the four began to walk out of the room, Hunter noticed that Stephanie had not left yet.

"Stephanie was it? Would you like to join us for tonight? It's better to be with people than to be alone when coping with grief." He turned and tilted his head as he looked at her. Her eyes widened as she looked at the four of them, noticing that the other three were smiling and beckoning her to join them. She nodded her head slightly before getting up and joining them as they walked out of the church.
