Chapter 9 - Polarity - Spirits

"That was a mess." I hear Liliana say while holding back a giggle.

"Yeah yeah I know." I sigh.

"Well you tried and that's what matters!" She exclaims to me, it feels like she feels bad for almost laughing.

I feel like a little kid...

After a few minutes of exploring the room I sit on the cushiony bed and wait impatiently for Camila's return.

"Your a very perceptive boy." Liliana's voice breaks the silence in my mind.

"You think so?"

"Well, for the times that I've been able to hear all your thoughts it felt like information was always being processed in your mind. It was honestly amazing." Liliana says to me.

Hearing a compliment from Liliana, although a kind of strange one, was a lot more flattering then I thought it would be. After all, she has saved my life so many times in just this past day. She's amazing to say the least.

I chuckle.

"Well, thanks for that I guess," a smile overtakes my face, "though, shouldn't I be complimenting you? You're the one who's saved me, well, us, countless times already."

Liliana giggles, her giggle is slowly being engraved in my mind.

"I suppose your right."

As I think back on just the beginning of this day, I realize how many questions I still have. I put so many thoughts to the side because of all the things that have been happening all at once. Now, I finally have the opportunity to just sit and ask Liliana everything I want to ask.

I feel an all too similar feeling engulf my body. But, it's not a feeling from this place. It's a feeling from back home.

I can see it clearly. When I was younger and I would get a new game or toy I would always have such an amazing feeling overcome me. I would have so much anticipation to play and have fun. As I grow older that feeling would come less and less.

I feel it for a moment, I feel that child-like excitement to learn about this new world.

But, it slips through me quicker than ever.

That once amazing feeling, now all it does is remind me of what I've lost.

Now it reminds me of what I need to get back.

I'm all over the place. I need to focus on one thing at a time.

Today, Liliana mentioned that there are two different types of spirits in this world. The Lues and the Lucrum. The former being the embodiment of negative emotions and the latter being the embodiment of positive emotions.

"So I have a few questions that I wanna ask you." I say to her as I go to sit on a leather couch near the bed.

"Go ahead."

"The two types of spirits you mentioned earlier today. The Lues and the Lucrum, which type of spirit are you?" I ask.

She tuts at my question.

"Which one do you think?!" She yells at me with a surprising amount of offence.

I'm taken aback by her emotional response and don't respond for a moment.

"Well?!" She yells once again, I'm kind of scared now.

"I, uh, I assume Lucrum but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask." I say, hoping it wouldn't anger her more.

"Hmph, well you assume right. I am a Lucrum." She says.

Sometimes her emotions are on full display, sometimes I can't tell if I'm talking to a whole different person...

"Ok then! Another question I have is about your powers and some more information about this world." I say, happy that I can move on from this obviously touchy subject.

"Ok!" Liliana says with a hint of random excitement in her voice.

I can't tell if she's doing this on purpose or not anymore.

I clear my throat before I talk again and fiddle with a piece of my shirt that I ripped off.

"Your powers, what are the extent to them? What are you able to do and do all spirits have the same abilities? How powerful are you compared to other spirits?" I shower her with questions.

Liliana takes a deep breath before answering.

"Explaining all of this is boring but it IS good to know." Liliana mumbles.

"My power is unique to me. As it is for all spirits, because spirits form from the energy around them almost every spirit has a different set of powers. You can also think about it like this, the place a spirit is born is a major deciding factor in their power. However, even spirits from the same place have different powers. Basically, location determines the general idea of a spirits power while the remaining factors such as the energy of beings around that location and other things determines more specific abilities that make spirits unique. As for what I'm able to do, you will find that out as time goes on. Explaining any more of this will bore me to sleep."

So location is a big factor...

My mind takes me back to when I first put the ring on and I woke up to a strange sight.

On one side of me was a dead forest, void of any life and greenery. While the other side of me was even more grown than the rest of the forest, flourishing with an abundance of life.

This strange ability, just what place would result in such a power?
