Elle made her way through the crowd towards the broad shouldered Diego. Madam Silvers bought him in the slave trade. He reminded Elle of the people from Ruslanope except his obvious features. Diego came from a Coat called the San Clemente in Tuatov. The Tovar's are known for their resemblance to a goat. The San Clemente are distinguished by their Black and Tan coats. In Tuatov the men don't wear shirts and Diego continued that tradition here. The hair on his shoulders and back was black and his belly was tan. He would ask her if she wanted to rub it all the time. It was some kind of mating ritual or something. She never did. Since she ran away it was hard for her to look any of the Catchers in their eyes.
"What do you want from me?" Maybe it was Nero and Frides' support that gave her the courage to look him in the eye.
Diego noticed something was different. Her usual annoyance in him was shining brilliantly. "Madam Silvers wants to make a deal for your freedom."
"What?" The atom sized words bounced around in her head as the last thing she expected.
"She's willing to grant your freedom. But you have to kill someone." Her mind raced to Nero and Frides. She wondered if Silvers knew they were Retainers, and it most definitely was Nero. That didn't make any sense. Frides said they weren't even Retainers, yet. "Who?" She asked calmly.
"She said you would enjoy this. Captain Enyo."
A weight lifted and she sighed. "Alone? That's suicide!"
"No, we would help." Diego looked around. "Viola and Zil are with Madam Silvers, now. They're waiting on us to return. Then we will kill Enyo."
"What about his men? They're not going to just let us kill them." Captain Enyo had been the one that captured Elle and Imani. Viola and Zil came to only make sure Diego didn't run. He took both of them on by himself with no problem. "If their here then we don't stand a chance."
"We're going to take them out separately. Larel is in with Doctor Lao and the other three have been in the room since they arrived. Apparently they're not permitted to leave."
It was hard for Elle to believe this was possible. Madam Silvers had never let anyone leave under any circumstances. Diego had never lied to her before but if it was a lie then this is how Madam Silvers would do it. Diego always remained friendly with her because they were in a similar situation. Diego had been bought in the slave trade and was also being forced to be a catcher.
"Diego, do you believe her?"
"She tried to under pay the Peace Corps and Captain Enyo was not happy about it. He threatened her and we can't take him alone."
"She's doesn't tell people what she's thinking. I can't trust..."
"Trust me. If she is lying, then I will help you guys escape. I will help you escape if Madam Silvers is lying. I'll just escape to the free cities?" Then he grinned.
"Okay." Elle followed Diego and disappeared into the crowd.
