„Chi," She began, in that tongue-rolling way she did.
„You don't have Magic. I have Magic. You are not an Adventurer. I am an Adventurer. Work on your words." I snatched the noodle spoon from her hands.
"I can, come outside and I'll show you." She took her spoon back, and completely ignored me, as she always did, unless I did something idiotic.
"Where were you? Tsume said you never returned from the Church Run?" I shrugged and gritted my teeth. It was harder to sneak a lie passed my sister.
"Hajimari." There, a white lie. Suzui got that familiar glint in her eyes she got whenever she thought about Adventurer things.
"Did you get anything?" I shook my head.
"Who goes to Hajimari without getting anything?" I shrugged. She narrowed her gaze.
"If you didn't get anything, then what's with the gear?" I grimaced, stumbling over my words like I only did with Suzui.
"Ok, I got this gear then." She rolled her eyes and filled two bowls with the food. She sat down at the table and pushed one toward me.
"What Spells do you know?" She knew I didn't really listen to any of her rants about Adventuring, so she was teasing. I crossed my arms, slyly breaking apart my chopsticks as I did. We thanked the Gods for the meal.
"Blue Fireball." I responded, somewhat irritated. She smirked, elegantly eating a portion of her noodles before taunting.
"Don't you mean Fire Shot?" Fire Shot was an extremely easy Spell that could barely be used to light a stove fire. It was what the Mage Academy used to teach toddlers to control their Magic.
I smirked right on back, taking my own graceful, challenging mouthful of food.
"I'll show you."
We finished up, and Suzui led me into the practice field. She'd made it with an Earth Mold Spell at the start of her Adventuring career. She then used the Gollum Spell to create a pathetic Earth Gollum. It waited obediently to be obliterated.
I grinned at Suzui, aimed at the Gollum, and focused on my Magic. Blue Fireball sparked into existence, alighting my left palm in a calm glow.
Suzui said nothing, so I directed my attack at the Gollum, watching as it turned to dust and chunky-hard rocks under the heat. I waited for my sister's reaction.
She gifted me a rare lope-sided grin.
"You're becoming an Adventurer." Then she grabbed my arm with a gruff,
"Follow me." I wasn't exactly following, but we made it to where she wanted quickly. She slammed a hand down in front of a woman behind a high-desk.
"I'm here to register Kodona Ritchi as a Mage and Adventurer." The woman replied, monotonous. Her eyes never left the paper beneath her fingers.
"Would you like the complimentary Class Test?"
"Yes, we'll take it now please." Suzui whipped a piece of Enchanted Paper into my hands and pushed me toward an open table, continuing to explain my information to the desk lady. I sighed.
Guess I was being an Adventurer then. There goes my dream of becoming a Blacksmith. Could Adventurers be Blacksmiths? Maybe I could retire early. Play the part of Adventurer until Suzui was satisfied.
I looked down at the paper, filling it out as I went.
'What was the first Spell you mastered?
- Blue Fireball
What Class are you most interested in?
-Stealth or Special Class
What is your Species/Do you have any Specie Specific Spells or Skills?
-Human, no
What are your talents?
- Running, Cooking, Translation, and Great Eyesight
Do you have any Skills?
-No
What other Spells do you know?
-None
Why do you want to be an Adventurer?
-I don't
What is your goal in life?
- To become an Equipment Designer and Blacksmith'
I finished more than confused. How would these questions determine my Class, especially if I lied...and when the answers could be too vague or simple? The paper shone with the embedded Magic. Right, I'd forgotten how specific Enchanter Magic could be. I could probably stop at writing my name, and it'd know my Class.
The questions were just for the Moderators then. To keep track of Adventurers as an individual, and the influx of those who died or retired, and those who joined. Suzui came over just as I finished and shoved the thing into the desk woman's hands rudely. The woman didn't react, taking the paper and leaving.
"Your results will be back in about ten minutes." Suzui looked about ready to demand them now, but held herself in. She pinned me under a long stare.
"You should join the Academy."
"Why? It would be weird to transfer in now, and you can teach me more anyway. When you're not around, I'll learn myself. I did figure out Blue Fireball." Suzui rose her brows expectantly. I shrugged, unrelenting.
She huffed and shot me a disproving look, proceeding to play around with a YoYo as she waited. The woman came back nine minutes later.
I read the sheet. Suzui read over my shoulder.
"Huh...weird."
Special Class was defined as any Mage that doesn't fit directly within any of the other Classes—Sword, Spear, Shield, Bow, Healer, Summoning, Stealth, or Neutral—but has their own unique Abilities and Weights.
An Ability was something such as being especially good at Sword Magic, while a Weight includes whether the Magic is better meant for Attack or Defense. Weights also helped with Skill development and uniqueness by granting more talent with certain Magic Buffs—Item, Armor, Accessory, Weapon, Support, Combat, or Party—or Spell Types: Long-Range, Short-Range, Close Combat, Multi-Cast, or Chain.
Weighting could also apply to Elemental Affinities: Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, Air, Lightening, Plasma, Life, or Death.
For example, if a Mage had a Weight toward Spells of the Fire Affinity, that meant they'd be naturally better at those kinds of Spells.
The Class Test was supposed to tell me what Abilities and Weights I had, but it just said, 'Special Class-Unknown'
I had a theory on why that was. My Magic wasn't Human, but the Enchanter who made the test was, so I got limited information. Suzui was just confused, but ultimately chose to be more excited than curious.
My species wasn't endangered, yet.
