Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine

Volleyball.

It's a sport,

It's a passion.

Live it.

Love it.

Play it.

The second to last bell rang as a warning. I stuffed my jacket and book bag into my locker and closed it, making sure it was locked. Students are making their way to class, but I turn to see Marcey standing in my way with the biggest smile on her face. It scared me honestly.

I raised an eyebrow, "You okay, Marce?"

"I'm fine, why?"

"Because you never smile."

Which is kind of true. I mean she smiles every now an then, but other than that she just has this stale face. When I first saw her, I was scared to say a simple 'hello' because she looked so mean.

"I do smile." She defended.

"No, not really. I've only seen you smile once; well twice counting this one."

"That's so not—"

"Don't even say that because you don't even smile in team pictures." I say

"Hm. Maybe that's why none of the freshman or sophomores talk to me."

I laugh hysterically, "I can't believe you never noticed."

"I guess I really do have a resting bitch face."

I laugh, "Oh my gosh Marcey." I sober up from my laughing and get back to the first topic, "Okay, what did you need to tell me."

"Oh! I was wondering if you found your homecoming dress yet."

Holy crap, "Ugh nooo, I totally forgot." I whine.

"Hm, well I could help you find yours this weekend." She offered, "I asked Miracle and everyone else, and they haven't gotten theirs either."

"Did you?"

"Yes! And I love it! I got the whole outfit actually."

She pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of her in a white halter dress, bright yellow shoes, a black and gold Chanel clutch, black and gold watch and gold bracelets. I can honestly say that she put the outfit together so beautifully. I don't think I would've ever paired the yellow shoes with anything.

"Dude, that's so cute." I say grabbing her phone.

"I don't know how I came up with it, but I found those yellow shoes in my closet, and I just bought the dress and jewelry." She explains.

Just as I was about to say something else, the final bell rang, "Tell me the rest at lunch, I cannot be late to class." We said our goodbyes as we went our separate ways.

I got to class to see Aaron already here talking to Nathan, but Adam was missing. I'm pretty sure he's with Ali because she wasn't here yet either.

I drop my things on my desk and pull up a chair next to Aaron and Nathan.

"Bella!" I scrunched up my face.

"Nathan, you know I hate that name, I don't know why you always call me that."

"Because it's adorable." He cooed. Aaron agreed, making me roll my eyes.

"Dude, no that name sounds so white." Just as I say that, Mya comes in looking dead as usual.

"Mya, don't you think Bella is a better name instead of Izzy." Adam calls out.

Mya stopped in her spot and made a face, "That is the whitest name that I've ever heard." She says.

"Right?!" I agree, "I've been trying to tell them that this whole time."

"I kind of find that offensive." We all look up to Ali standing there. I can't help but notice that Adam isn't with her.

"I mean yea, you're white." Nathan spoke up making us laugh.

"Haha, very funny." She huffs, walking to her seat, "Has anybody seen Adam this morning?"

"Aren't you supposed to know that?"

"I should, but he hasn't texted me back yet." She looked at her phone again and shook her head.

I looked at Aaron, "You're the brother, where is he?" I asked.

Aaron shrugged his shoulder, "He said he wasn't feeling well this morning." I feel like he's not saying something, but I let it go.

The second bell finally rang, and teacher came in. I sighed, and leaned back in my seat, not really in the mood to learn anything.

*

By lunch time, I was starving and irritated. There are over 100 billion nerve cells in the human body, and Destiny and Chasity managed to get on every single one; Carter surprisingly didn't, though. If it wasn't for volleyball, both of them would be six feet under.

I slammed my lunch on the table startling some people.

"Damn chica, what's wrong with you?" Liana asked

"I swear to god, that girl Destiny was about to catch these hands, forreal." Mya says walking to the table. I looked at Liana and pointed to Mya.

"What'd she do?"

"Every-fucking-thing. I swear to god that bitch is gonna get it when club season starts." Mya continued to swear. She looked at her plate and huffed, "That bitch even made me forget my ketchup." She got up and stomped away from the table.

"Wow." Aaron broke the silence, "Does she always get like that when she's mad?"

"Only when she's really pissed." Miracle explains.

We continued eating and laughing at Nathan and Aaron's silly argument about whatever they were talking about.

"Hola people!" A very chirpy Marcey came over.

"Okay, you being this happy is creeping me out." Nathan says making everyone nod their head in agreement.

"She's just happy that she found her outfit for homecoming." I explain.

"Shit, homecoming is next week isn't it?" Miracle gasped.

Mya came back over, probably still upset about the Destiny situation.

"Ugh, are you fucking kidding me?" Mya shouted out in frustration... Or maybe she heard about homecoming?

"Oh! How about we all go dress shopping after school." Liana suggested.

"That's fine with me." Miracle chimmed in.

Everyone else agreed except for Nathan and Aaron of course. According to Nathan, they didn't want to sit around for hours watching us try on millions of dresses. I mean they're just over exaggerating; it'll probably be hundred, not millions.

Lunch ends, and we all go our separate ways. Except Aaron and I of course. The hallways are starting to clear up, an Aaron and I are walking in a comfortable silence. That is until he speaks up.

"Y'know I'm really stating to like this school a little more everyday."

"Really? Why?"

"I don't know, I mean— this school is different. Like, you don't have to wear uniforms, you have a bowling and hockey team, which most schools don't have here or back in Italy. Oh, and detentions are 30 minutes! At my old school detentions were 3 1/2 hours." My jaw dropped.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes ma'am, and I don't know how I survived it either." He chuckles.

When we finally make it to Aaron's art class, we say our goodbyes and I rush to the other side of the school to my class, so I'm not late.

*

"Man today was such a drag." Liana complained getting into my car.

"Amen to that." I say.

School was finally over and we're all going to pick out our homecoming dresses. Liana was riding with me and everyone else had their cars.

Liana grabbed my AUX cord and plugged up her phone, "What song?"

I thought for a second, "Surprise me."

"Ohh, have you heard this yet?"

I woke up, uh

Tell her make them bands and bring me some

I need all my money every month

You gon' run it like you owe me somethin'

Now make me rich, make me rich

I need 'bout two strippers more than one

Won't you shake your ass and show me somethin'

Bands on bands, I make me more than one

Now make me rich

"Ayee!" I turn up the radio and sing along.

I got bottles on bottles

Got bitches on bitches, they kissin' each other in French

I fell in love with the new Maseratis

Said, "Fuck it," and went 'head and copped a new Benz

I don't go one on one

I got like too many girls, I go crazy, got bitches I throw away

Throw up the money, blue hunnits

Got bleu cheese and bitches all under my wing and you know it

Suddenly the music stopped playing. I looked and Liana's phone was vibrating. She huffed and answered the phone.

"Put it on speaker." I whisper.

"This better be good Miracle. You interrupted our music session." She says.

"I'm sorry, but your loud music is very distracting to the people driving on this express way."

"Well, that's not my problem, they shouldn't be paying attention to my music."

"Y'know I find that very disrespectful—"

Wanting to get back to the music, I interrupted Miracle, "As much as we love talking to you Miracle, we love our music more." With that, Liana hung up, and Make Me Rich continued to play through my speakers.

We made it to the mall, and found parking spots near the entrance. I made sure my car was locked and caught up with the rest of the girls. The mall was pretty crowded considering it was Wednesday, but I mean it is homecoming weekend.

"Alright, which store first?" Mya asked.

"What about Winsdor? I heard they have some cute stuff." I said.

We make our way to the store and it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. We went our separate ways looking at the different dresses.

What kind of dress do I even want?

I grabbed a black knee length bodycon dress, a short sparkly dress, and a red spaghetti strap dress. Feeling satisfied with what I got, I made my way to the dressing rooms. I set my stuff down and changed into the black bodycon dress. I stared at myself in the mirror trying to figure out which hairstyle would be good for this dress. I continued to stare and finally gave up.

"Marcey!" I called out. Seconds later she showed up the a pretzel in her hand. I chuckled and did a little spin, "What do you think?"

"You look like you're going to a funeral." She said with no hesitation. I laughed at her honesty and looked back into the mirror.

"Y'know I think you're right about this one." I admit.

She smiled, "Aren't I always?" She took another bite of her pretzel and walked away.

I sighed, and slipped out of the dress and picked up the plain red dress and put it on. It wasn't the kind of dress that I would go for, but it looked pretty cute. I stepped out of the dressing room and called Marcey back.

"Marcey!"

"Yes ma'am, how can I help—" She stopped talking when she saw my dress, "Oh my god, that dress looks amazing on you!" She practically screamed, catching the attention of people in the store.

I looked around starting to get nervous from all the staring.

"So should I get it?"

"Ah, duh."

I laugh, "Okay, geez." I walk back into the dressing room and change back into my regular clothes. I put the black dress and the sparkly dress back on the rack and began searching for jewelry. I found a gold cutout arrow cuff bracelet and a gold collar necklace. In my eyes they go very well with the dress and I have a gold Micheal Kors watch at home.

"Hey Marcey, what shoes—woah." I say. My eyes look up to me a very attractive boy who looks to be about my age, "Um, sorry." I give him an apologetic smile, and walk away to find the rest of the girls.

I find them at the cash register buying their outfits, "What shoes can go with this dress?"

"Don't you have those nude pumps you bought, but never wore?" Mya asked.

My eyes widened, "Oh yea, you're right!" I now have the perfect outfit for homecoming.

After I drop Liana off at home, I get home around 9:15. I changed into something comfortable, and finished up the rest of my homework. I was checking my emails and I saw that I got one from Chicago Jrs; it was the tryout information. I quickly opened the message and read it.
