The werewolf growled and ran towards her. His eyes glowed a golden yellow as he got closer. Then he pounced into the air and was going to descend above Alexia.
Alexia thrusted her knives out and the claws he was going to use to scratch her were stopped by her knives.
As fast as the attack was blocked, he attempted another swipe at her but this one was on her stomach. She prevented it by blocking it with the knife on her left hand.
He moved on and tried to bite her but she stepped out of the way. That was when she noticed the symbol on his forehead.
It was the symbol of the crescent moon.
She gasped and widened her eyes. The werewolf used it as an advantage. He took a swipe at her and this time, he succeeded in scratching her. She flinched and bent over in pain.
Within seconds, crimson liquid started to ooze out of her stomach. The injury burned in the cold and it weakened her.
She growled in frustration and anger. She was pissed. The werewolf had succeeded in pissing her off badly.
She got up fast and grabbed one of the knives inside her boots. She threw it at the werewolf. He didn't see it coming so it sank into his shoulder. The werewolf roared in pain.
Alexia was sure he could feel the burning pain of the silver blade. The werewolf roared again. The woman he had been pursuing sank to the floor and covered her ears in fear. She remained by the wall too scared to move away. The wall felt like her safe zone.
The werewolf growled again and came at Alexia. She thrusted out her knives and succeeded in giving him another cut. The werewolf groaned and this angered him immensely.
As he stood a meter away, daring Alexia; he decided to up his game. Slowly, his body started to morph and he went down on all fours. His skin receded and thick dark furs replaced it. He became so huge and tall and his face was manic, like a psychopath werewolf. He looked vicious and monstrous.
For the first time, Alexia felt fear. She was just one small person about to take on a huge beast like him.
The woman on the other hand widened her eyes in shock. Alexia could hear her rapid intake of breath. She was terrified. She was too shocked to speak. She remained by the wall still unable to move.
"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOAR!" The werewolf roared at her.
This roar was beyond menacing. It was terrifying as well as horrifying. Alexia's heart skipped a beat. She was speechless. Bile rose up her throat. She was never one to feel fear yet today, the vicious beast before her had caused her fear.
But Alexia wasn't going to let his appearance intimidate her. She was a Huntress. She was born to protect humans from all supernatural creatures. She was brave and she was courageous. Her father had trained her well and she wasn't going to let all her training go to waste. This was what she had been training for all her life. She had killed a lot of werewolves in the past so the werewolf was nothing. She could take it.
The werewolf came at her. The ground shook under its vicious paws. Alexia stood her ground, she wasn't going to cower away from this fight. She wasn't going to allow her fear to get to her.
It reached her and tried to take another swipe at her. She dodged. He took another swipe and she dodged but it was a very close one. She lost her balance and fell.
The Werewolf tried to stampede on her and she rolled out of the way very fast. He came at her and brought his claws down hard on her. She thrusted out both her knives and blocked the attack. But the werewolf was pushing her knives down hard so he could dig his claws onto her body. She increased her strength on her knives.
The werewolf did the same. He kept on pushing it down. Alexia kept struggling with hers. If she released it then she was going to die. Her life depended on how long she could hold up her knives. She was already weakening.
The knives were going down and the claws were coming closer to her heart. His aim was to pull out her heart. She kept struggling. The claws came to the skin and started to dig in. More crimson liquid oozed out of the place. She didn't relent even when she knew she was losing.
Suddenly, a familiar roar resonated before them. The werewolf released her and looked up. Alexia did the same. It was Damon, Ryan and a third guy.
The three of them roared at the werewolf. The werewolf took the bait and went at them. Alexia struggled to her feet and managed to get to the woman. She was too shaken.
When Alexia got to her, she saw that some of her clothes were torn. The bastard werewolf must have caused it.
"It's okay, you'll be fine. What's your name? I'm Alexia," Alexia calmed her.
The woman looked at her, unable to speak. When Alexia looked closely, she realised that it was her. She was the woman she saw in the light.
She threw her eyes to the woman's back where most of her clothes were in shreds and she saw it. The phoenix. She widened her eyes at the woman.
"I'm— I'm Malia," She answered in a very quiet voice.
Alexia only stared at her speechlessly. She turned her head back to the men just in time to see the werewolf escape. They let him slip out of their grips. The three of them came running towards them.
The third guy was the most worried. "Malia! I'm so sorry! I shouldn't have left you here alone," The guy said as he hugged Malia and planted a kiss on her forehead.
Malia remained mute. She didn't say a word. She was too shocked. The guy turned his attention to Alexia.
Alexia looked at them in shock. She had never seen a werewolf with a human mate. Werewolves always hunted humans. They were a danger to humans. How could this werewolf have a human mate?
"Thank you, for protecting my Malia. I'm Richard," the young man said.
Damon came to squat beside Alexia while Ryan remained standing.
"You're hurt. You need to get your wounds treated," Damon told her.
She threw her face to the other side. It was obvious she didn't want to have any form of conversation with him. She didn't even want to breathe in the same air as him.
"I'm just telling you this for your own good," Damon told her.
"I don't need you to take care of me. I can take care of myself," Alexia said harshly.
Damon stood up in defeat. Richard only watched their transactions.
"Well, you just met Alexia," Damon informed Richard.
Richard didn't say a word.
"How come you're here Alexia? Aren't you supposed to be in your clan home? Isn't it dangerous with those extinct werewolves going rogue?" Ryan asked.
Alexia looked up at him in disbelief. Did she have to explain herself to him?
"You don't have to worry about me, werewolf. I can take care of myself!" She answered harshly.
Ryan raised his hands in defeat and everyone remained silent. Richard helped Malia up while still holding on to her. He didn't want to let her out of his sight. He was too scared to lose her. He almost just did.
"I— I dreamt of you Alexia," Malia said, breaking the silence.
This surprised everyone and they all looked at Malia.
"So did I," Alexia said.
All the men turned their heads to Alexia as well.
"I saw you, standing in the middle of the flames. It was burning on all sides and you were so fierce, I thought it was some kind of joke but here you are," Malia said.
"What does it mean? How are you connected to all this?" Alexia asked.
Malia didn't hold the answer to her question because she didn't even know what Alexia was talking about in the first place.
"You dreamt of my Malia?" Richard asked.
Alexia felt that Richard was the only worthy person she could speak to since he was the only one that looked genuinely good. His mate was a human after all.
"I saw her in the light. I saw her birthmark of the Phoenix. I was supposed to save her," she explained.
"This is all strange and confusing. I thought the prophecy only involved Damon and you?" Richard voiced out.
"I'm also confused. I don't even understand what is going on anymore. I believe there's more to this prophecy that we don't know of," Damon said.
"Malia, that man was asking you for something. Do you know what it is?" Alexia asked.
"I have no idea. I'm just— I— I'm too shocked to do a thing. I don't understand anything anymore," Malia cried.
"Only those extinct werewolves know exactly what is going on here," Ryan finally said.
