"Get the knife from my hands."
"Umm… why can't I just take the other one off the table?" Sarah asked.
"Because I will make a bet with you." Jake replied coolly.
"... What are the terms."
"If you can get this dagger away from me, I will give you an item or favor of your choice. If you are unable to get this dagger from me, you will sleep outside your stall, on the floor, for a week."
"I'm sorry, what kind of deal is that? A favor from you? Why would I need that?" Sarah asked.
Jake cocked his head thoughtfully, "It's always nice to have somebody who owes you something."
Sarah looked him in the eyes before nodding her head in agreement. "Ok, deal."
Sarah stood up on her toes and reached for the dagger that was hanging above her head. Jake swiftly pointed the shiny blade upwards, out of Sarah's reach. Next, although she was sure that she looked idiotic, she jumped. She would have reached it if Jake hadn't chosen that moment to freeze her feet to the ground. "Ugh!" Sarah yelled angrily. She quickly slipped off the glove on her right hand and pressed her inflamed palm onto one of the ice blocks.
The ice began to melt, when she was left with a puddle at her right foot, she crossed over to her other side to melt the ice encasing her left boot. When she was done, she stood in puddles. She put her glove back on and then went to jump again, only to be held back down. "What-" Sarah looked down at her feet. They were once again covered in the frozen liquid.
She groaned again, much louder this time. She tore off both her gloves and threw them to the side. Her palms were ablaze as she put them on both of the blocks at the same time. It took only a few seconds for the ice to be completely melted. When her flame-lit palms nearly touched her boots, close enough to set them on fire, she used the leverage of her crouch and jumped upwards, propelling herself higher now that she was free of the burden of frozen solid boots. She jumped high enough to reach the blade, right before Jake froze her palms in massive amounts of ice.
Of course, because they were her palms, her source of fire, the ice began to melt quickly. After only seconds of the ice being there, it had completely melted, raining down on Sarah and Jake like they were in the middle of a split-second storm. But because her hands had frozen solid when she reached the peak of her jump, the time that it had taken the ice to melt, was just as long as it took for her feet to land back onto solid ground.
Drenched, Sarah stood there. Her eyes became as red as rubies. The water in her hair began to bubble, boiling hotter and hotter until it evaporated, leaving her completely dry. She stood there fuming. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't reach it when she stood on her toes. she couldn't get to it in time when she jumped. If she were to go and get something to stand on and reach it, she probably wouldn't be able to get on top of i t before her feet were frozen to the ground once more, Max would also never let her forget that to win a bet, she had used a step-stool.
But she wasn't about to sleep on the floor for the week. Leaving her exposed to all the laughter and ridicule either.
Sarah pondered for a moment. Then, she had an idea. She opened the Iris bag that was strapped to her side. The others gave her a curious look. She rustled around inside, grabbing the purple ink pen. Before anybody could even notice what she was doing, she quickly pulled her hand out and threw the pen at Jake's face.
Because of instinct, Jake raised his left hand to stop it. While he was distracted, Sarah jumped into the air, plucking the dagger from his hand and landed firmly back onto the ground.
Jake still stood there in shock, his left hand still clutching the purple pen in front of his face.
After a few moments of silent shock, a hearty laughter came from behind Jake.
Sarah peered around Jake to see who was laughing. And there he stood, the always straight faced, cold, no emotions Terrance, was laughing. Jake's face turned the color of cherries and roses. He turned around, both angry and embarrassed. "Why are you laughing? You think you can do any better?"
Terrance held up his finger as he doubled over in laughter. Sarah's red eyes began to turn back into her typical color of green. For every second that Terrance continued to laugh, Jake's face seemed to turn a different color of red. Scarlet, Vermilion, Ruby, Cherry and finally, the most purest red, the red on complete and utter embarrassment.
Terrance eventually found himself able to regain his usually cool attitude but a smirk still lingered at the edges of his lips. "I knew that wasn't going to work the whole time. I just wanted to see you make a fool of yourself. My assigned GSPD carrier is way too smart to fall for your tricks." Turning to Sarah he said, "Sarah that was a test. We believe that we know who your father might be and Jake insisted on doing it his way. Now that you have foiled his plans, we are going to do this my way.
Terrance plucked the sleek dagger from Sarah's hand, holding it by it's gleaming black handle. He went over and set it on top of the table. "Get the dagger." Terrance said.
"But that's what I just did with Jake." Sarah said. Today has been a very confusing day so far.
"Not the same. Now, there are rules."
"And what might those rules be?"
"You can not move an inch from that spot."
"How am I supposed to get the dagger then? If I can't reach it, what else am I supposed to do?"
"Get the dagger."
"How?"
"Get the dagger."
"Terrance! Jake! Somebody, help me!"
"Get the dagger."
