Sarah walked over to the judges and the tall woman said to her, "We have to do introductions of ourselves first. Then the rules will be explained to the spectators, then a timer will start for you to begin."
"Ok." Sarah said with a smile.
-
"Hello spectators!" Said a detached male voice. "Welcome to this event! In this event, Sarah Benson will be taking one of John Terra's personal designs, and improving it." There was a dramatic, collective gasp from the crowds. Then the voice from the speakers began again, "The rules are simple. We have 2 exact models of the dress. One is for Ms. Benson to alter, the other is for comparison to the original design. Sarah will have 2 hours to design, alter and present the dress. You are all welcome to sit on the stands and chairs provided for you, after the competition is over, you are allowed to view other versions of the dress. Next we will be introducing the judges!"
One by one, each gudge introduced themselves. When it was Sarah's turn she was instructed to call herself Lady Sarah Benson and to provide her age. When people heard her age they were taken aback. Angry even. How could this 15 year old think that she coil beat a world class designer? Mummers went through the crown but Sarah just gritted her teeth and smiled, pretending like she couldn't hear their insults.
"Ok. This event will begin in 3… 2… 1… Go!" Said the voice. Somebody walked up to a large glass, sand timer and flipped it over, the sand trickling slowly to the bottom level.
Sarah calmly walked over to the dresses and picked up a mannequin and set it next to the table. She did this for multiple reasons, 1- so nobody could tamer with her dress without her noticing, they would have to walk to the middle of the set to do so. 2- she wasn't accused of tampering with the second dress or cheating. 3- So it was near every area, that way it would be faster to get to it from all points or the event set.
to it from all points or the event set.
First, she walked over to where she had stopped her search for the silk gloves. She dug through a bucket of accessories, hats, necklaces in glass boxes, shoes, everything was there. But no silk gloves. She looked in the fabric and there were no silk gloves. She looked along the entire event set, no gloves could be found.
She looked up and saw a smirking face. John Terra. That cheat. She had specifically said to him that the dress would be even better with a pair of silk gloves and he had purposely not given them to her.
At first, Sarah was seething with anger. Then, Sarah realized that she should be happy. When John Terra cheated, that meant he was nervous enough about her winning that he felt a bit of cheating was necessary to beat her.
John Terra had expected her to scowel a him, make a face. Maybe even accuse him of cheating or request for a pair or gloves. But to his surprise, Sarah just smiled at him and turned around, never to look at him again throughout the whole competition.
Sarah walked over to the silk hanging from the racks and picked out the most beautiful, silkiest, pearly white fabric that she had access to. She would make her own gloves.
She gathered all the things that she would need to make them, the silk, scissors, silver thread and 2 silver rhinestones.
She then got to work. Cutting and weaving, embroidering and attaching the stones.
When she was done, she had a beautiful pair of the finest silk gloves available. One glove even had the matching rose embroidery that the dress had. The stones went on the inside of where a person's writ would be if they had been wearing them.
The next thing that Sarah did was use the same material as the dress and made a sleeve, attaching it to only one side of the dress and leaving the thin strap on the other shoulder alone.
After that, she picked up the dainty headpiece that sat on top of the mannequin's next, because it had no head. She took it over to the trash can, and threw it away. When people saw her do this, they began to whisper. "Why would she throw away a whole piece of the outfit?" "What is she planning?" "The piece was so beautiful! She shouldn't have thrown it away!"
Sarah assembled everything together. She made sure that the sleeve was properly attached. She slid the gloves over the mannequin's arms. She took the look that she had attached to the end of the sleeve and looped it around the rhinestone sewn into the gloves, securing the pieces together. She then took a long strip of the same silk she had used to make the gloves and attached it to the back of the dress. She put a loop on it and attached it to the other glove.
Stepping back, Sarah admired her work. The dress that had previously been a simple but still very beautiful and elegant dress design, was now a full masterpiece. The beautiful embroidered rose on the gloves Sarah handmaid was attached to the sleeveless side of the dress sparkled and stood out among the other details.
Sarah looked up at the top of her mannequin. She understood why John Terra had added a headpiece to it. The gown was so beautiful that if you were to have nothing on your head the outfit would seem incomplete or imbalance.
After Sarah had thought for a moment she walked away from the dress and out of the set. Right into the mature oak trees and rows of flowers.
Voices rang out around the set, "She cheats!" "She's not allowed to leave!" "That's against the rules!"
Sarah just ignored them and kept walking.
