Often it takes little to go from peace to chaos; just a word or an absence is enough. A slight shake is enough for triggered an explosive. The first heat of the blond omega was enough to make the wolves approach the sheepfold. They were on the prowl, waiting for all these gods to get away from the house. On the first day, the prowling vampires were caught off guard. On the second, they observed, so on the third, they prepared their plan of attack. On the fourth, they waited. Hidden behind the low wall run alongside the road, they observed the comings and goings. Principally, those of the gods who continued the work and were on their guard as their enemies. Some of them were hiding in the small wood behind Day's property.
"I do not like it," Nyx's brother suddenly blurted out, stopping to apply the plaster to the walls.
The other deities turned to him at the same time, puzzled.
"About what?" Leit asked, raising an eyebrow questioning.
"They are all close, more than yesterday. Will attack soon."
"Ah! I'm waiting for them! Let them dare to come if they haven't heard of what happened to their friends four days ago," openly provoked Moain, looking around.
To his surprise, the branches of the hedges on the neighbouring property moved despite the lack of wind.
"Too easy," sneered the god of earth and gravity. "They are so edgy that they are susceptible to it."
"Calm down. The point isn't to start a conflict while our blond omega is still in heat period," Minndt snarled, stepping out onto the porch with the newly installed floor-to-ceiling windows.
Nyx did not lose the opportunity to see the god of spirit and feelings out of his beloved's room to take him aside, desiring more concrete news than ever.
"Is he better now?" he asked hastily.
"Yes, he's a fast learner. Also, Foud is a good teacher. It's over soon."
"I can go see him then."
"I said soon, not that they were already over."
"Please…"
"Lou will put her threat to execution if she sees you in the bedroom."
"Just five minutes."
"Nyx… You can't, for his good. Next time you might be able to go see him in the heat. But this time, you can't. It's hard enough to deal with it."
"What do you mean?"
"He didn't want to change the sheets."
"Well, what, where is the problem?"
"There's your scent."
"That's cute…"
"Maybe, but while he waits for his pheromone peaks, it's harder to pass. Then frankly, hearing him moan your name is something I would have done without."
"See, he wants me to come."
"Nyx."
"Five minutes."
"No. On the other hand, you can make yourself useful for your partner by making soup this noon. I have to go to the pharmacy."
"Watch out, they're all close ..."
"I'll call you if I have any problem. These phones are useful. Day had a good idea."
"That I can't deny."
"Send a message to Foud he will come to get the bowl for Day."
"How about we try to let him out of his room instead?"
Minndt looked at him coldly while sighing and didn't bother to answer him, hurrying into his car before setting off. Unfortunately, Nyx interpreted his silence in another way and hastened to cook under the curious gaze of his comrades.
"What exactly are you up to?" Leit wondered, watching him peel the carrots.
"Minndt asked me to make soup for Day."
"He's kind enough already. No need to feed him carrots."
"Foud, get out of this body." Moain joked, raising his hands covered in paint.
"We are progressing well anyway. The veranda is almost finished! How about the new bathroom?"
"All that was left was to install the furniture, the shower, the sink… That sort of thing."
"Day said we would order them on the internet."
"Will there be the model we saw in the store?"
"No idea, you'll have to ask him."
At that, Nyx's face lit up. He dipped the carrots into the boiling water.
"I'll ask him while bringing his meal," he said with a smirk.
"You are not allowed to enter the room. I'll call you back."
"Moain, I'm not going into the bedroom."
"How are you going to talk to him then?"
"A door can stay open, and if I stay under the door frame, I haven't crossed the line."
"Courageous of you to believe this will work."
"They had only to better explain their instructions."
"Sneaky..."
"Yep, what do you think!"
"That if you end up smothered in ivy, I won't come and set you free, cook in love."
A collective laugh echoed in the room, but Nyx simply rolled his eyes before focusing on cooking the carrots. When they were tender, and Nyx had at least cut them all in half to check if they were ready, he plunged his hands into the still boiling water to collect them and put them in a glass bowl. Smiling, he took out the hand blender remembered the instructions: start blending at a first speed and gradually increase. Always keep the blender immersed because putting it on the surface makes it splash.
"Good..." Toxin smirked as he joined the group in the kitchen.
"Day is a good teacher." replied the god of night and death with a malicious sneer.
"Have you seen his family? No wonder. They don't hear back anyway."
"We already have enough to do here."
"Indeed. I saw someone walk past the house."
"It must be a neighbour."
"Dressed all in black with a hood and looking meticulously around the house?"
"He's not a neighbour. Did you see his face?"
"Yes, he stared at me before he started walking again. It won't take long for them to take action. Maybe we should go home with him, while things calm down."
"I'll suggest the idea to Lou and Foud."
"Minndt hasn't come back yet?"
"I didn't see him come back."
The two gods shared a worried look before Leit reported that the soup was sufficiently mixed. Nyx grabbed the bowl he thought was the most beautiful and filled it generously before placing it on the wooden tray. A small plate of homemade grated carrots joined the tray with a quarter of a lemon and a cup accompanied by a small teabag.
"Can we have a tray too?" Moain tried with a big smile.
"It depends; do we sleep together?"
"Great the condition."
"You can conclude that there is no plateau for you." Nyx teased, sticking his tongue out at him before leaving the kitchen with Day's meal.
The man who could control the fire felt his impatience grow as he approached the door leading to the room from which he had been evicted. He was almost there, a few more short yards, a few more steps… He wedged the tray against his hip to free one of his hands, but the door opened just as he was about to knock.
"What ..."
"I'm coming to bring his lunch."
Disapproval was instantaneous on Foud's face.
"Minndt told me you would send me a message." he scolded him, taking the tray. "Thank you very much, now ute."
"I need to talk to Day, you and Lou."
"Nyx, we've talked about this before ..."
"This is important."
"Really?"
"Yes, very important."
"Okay. Wait here. Your mate is in the bathroom."
"Maybe I could ..."
"You put one foot in this room, and you will know what it feels like to be struck by lightning! Here you know what, to be sure you don't go in, you go close the door."
"Behind me?"
"Keep paying you my head."
"I wouldn't dare..."
"Shut up and wait in the hallway."
Foud slammed the door behind him and set the meal tray down on the desk before opening the bathroom door, surprising Lou combing Day's hair.
"Flaming Alpha wants to talk to Day too. He says it's urgent." informed the god of lightning, crossing his arms.
"About what?"
"I don't know, Lou. Considering his look, it seems really important."
"Well, we have no choice. Day, you're going to eat, then you'll be too busy to be tempted."
"I will know not to let myself be overwhelmed." the latter promised, looking at their reflection in the mirror. "I am much better now. I can feel that the end of my heat is near."
"Sure?"
"Nearly."
"Let's say it's a test, to be sure. If your heat doesn't kick in at the smell and presence of Nyx in the room, then you might be able to go outside and walk around the house."
"Really?!"
"If you meet the condition, don't joke about it. There you go, combing that beautiful golden hair!"
Day nodded at her and pulled his shirt over his tank top before stepping out of the bathroom. Hurrying to sit at his desk before starting to eat the grated carrots. The other two gods nodded to each other, and Foud went to open the door to Nyx more than impatient. The latter's gaze immediately fell on the blond who waved his hand, a big smile sparkling with happiness on his lips.
"You can come in, sit on the chair there." Lou indicated, pointing to the object.
Nyx obeyed silently and took a seat in the chair before crossing his legs. His gaze couldn't tear himself away from the omega, who was enjoying his meal.
"What do you have that is so important to ask?" quickly asked the goddess of nature.
"Two things, one more important than the other."
"Start with the least important."
"It's more for the blond here, and I said I'll pass it on to him. It's for the furniture. The bathroom is almost finished, but the shower, the sink… that sort of thing is missing. Anyway, you had to say we're going to order them, but can we order everything we saw in the store online?"
The youngest of them all looked at him with his cheeks full of food before waving him to wait for him to swallow.
"There isn't everything, of course, but there are other websites where you can buy furniture. Something will be found to suit everyone," replied the most modern of them all with a big sincere smile. "I am surprised at how quickly you have moved forward."
"Hey, who do you think we are?"
"Haha, not wrong. What's your second question?"
"She's a bit more…serious."
"We're listening."
"They are going to try something soon. So, it is becoming too dangerous for you to stay here. Toxin has suggested we could go home, at least until things calm down."
"Go home…?"
"At home."
Day's face suddenly darkened, his gaze rested on his bowl of soup.
"Are they that close?" Foud worried as he approached the wide-open window.
"We're surrounded. We should go for a while."
"But Day is not yet fully recovered."
"Exactly."
"I don't see why I should go back. You are here to protect me." the younger grumbled before taking a sip of soup.
"Sure, but you'd be safer. It won't belong."
"Confiding in my uncle couldn't have been long too, yet that didn't stop my parents from abandoning me."
Foud wanted to say something, but his voice didn't follow. The pain had been felt enough in the blonde's voice for him or someone else to fight back. At least until Nyx decides to do it.
"Get out," he ordered harshly to the other two gods who glared at him.
"Sorry ?! I'm not going to leave you alone with him!" Lou objected, approaching him. "You don't seem to have understood. You are here because we are here!"
"Lou, get out."
"And why?"
"Because I want to talk to him."
"You can talk to him without we having to leave the room."
"Who are you, my mother? I have followed your instructions long enough, so now you come out and wait for us in the living room."
"I'm not going to leave you alone with him."
"Yes, let him do it," Foud retorted, interposing himself between them. "Let's go get ready, Lou."
"But…"
"We have to be ready."
The brown-haired woman with the one green lock suddenly understood the implication. She nodded a little before following Foud out of the room, giving Day one last look before closing the door. He took his time drinking his tea before turning his attention to Nyx.
"You've already decided to take me there," he said bitterly, looking him straight in the eye.
"I want your good."
"Why can't you protect me here?" "Our… feature would attract the attention of your neighbours and, I don't want to be accused of arson in any way."
"Aren't you?"
"If I was, then I would have given up on fires after arriving at someone's home even hotter and fiercer than fire."
"You know how to court ..."
"Because I'm sincere."
"Nyx, I don't want to be locked up again."
"You won't be. I'll make sure you're as free as a butterfly."
"You promise me?"
"I can swear it to you."
"Could I go for a walk alone?"
"As long as you want."
"Can I do whatever I want?"
"As long as it's not murdering someone, yes."
"Could you stay in the same room as me?"
"I will stay with you but, say me why?"
"Because I appreciate your company, and now that it's woken up, they're going to be more oppressive."
"Who is this they you are talking about?"
"The alphas guards. Then even, I would be by a majority of alphas…Do you have any idea what that can do to me? Toxin barely knew how to hold back and, yet, he has nerves of steel!"
"I can imagine it, yes. Nobody will do anything to you, I promise."
"I don't want to be tied to anyone other than you."
"It is unwise to tell me that when you still give off particularly attractive pheromones."
"I like to tease you. Guess we're not gonna wait to leave? I won't see the work being finished."
"Apart from the paint and the furniture, they are not missing anything."
"You went fast. Shall I take some stuff?"
"What you will need."
Day sighed for a long time but complied and took his backpack out of his closet, hastily putting the essentials in it. Ordinary clothes, his charger, headphones and earphones, and the medicine Minndt brought. But as he made sure he hadn't taken anything, his phone vibrated on the bed. The notification of a new message caught his and Nyx's attention. Almost throwing himself on his bed, he grabbed it and unlocked it to throw it against the pillows as well.
"Easy, you need it!" Nyx reminded him as he picked it up. "Why are you...Oh."
"Oh? Do you have all that to say?!"
"Close the window and lower all the shutters on the house. We are leaving now."
Day didn't take the time to be told twice and slammed his bedroom window and shutters shut before following Nyx out of the bedroom. He stopped in each room to plunge it into darkness before joining the group near the living room.
"Who sent this?" Foud asked, taking a closer look at the image sent with the message. "How are we going to find Minndt? They can be anywhere! They are going to use it as a travelling meal!"
"We will go home, tell his father and look for him. We will find him quickly." Moain tempered, looking in his turn.
"But in what condition..."
"Alive."
"You have hope."
"We will find him. They will end with their heads detached from their bodies, and things will return to normal. Their madness will end with their death. Now let's set sail while we still have time. Day, you will go up. with Nyx and Lou, you don't oppose it."
She rolled her eyes but did so with a simple nod, following the discreetly armed group outside. The surroundings were free. Day quickly put on his helmet and wasted no time getting up behind Nyx. He waited until everyone was ready to lead the way and slip off the property, descending the road at a speed that could almost have ignited the asphalt. It wasn't long before the omega wrapped his arms around his waist, gripping his jacket as he rested his head against his back.
