Chapter 10 - Lunch I

The menu at La Fable was classy with shining gold rims that rounded off the edges. It seemed like sandwiches were the choice of focus at La Fable with every item on the menu including some form of bread.

There were paninis, banh mi, open sandwiches, katsu sandos and basically a sandwich from every single inch of the world.

Rosalie was amazed by the breadth of selection which was customizable down to the temperature you'd like it toasted.

"You ready to order?"

Christoph asked knowing full well that a first-timer couldn't possibly be ready to order within that short span of time it took to glance over the menu. There were just too many choices and options that a person had to choose; he was confident that she'd have to ask for his help.

"Yeah, I'm ready. I would like to order combo set D for myself. I'll have a panini with focaccia bread, steak and caramelized onions along with lettuce, tomato and provolone cheese. I like my steak medium rare with the bread toasted with cheese at 190o Celsius with butter spread. For sauces, I'd like light mayonnaise on the salad layer. For my side dishes, I would like a cold pasta with rotini pasta, cucumber slices, tomatoes, red onions, black olives, feta cheese and creamy dressing. I would like a lighter soup to complement the meal, so I'll go with a bowl of Stracciatella. Did you get all that?"

"H-ha ha, you're pretty quick eh?"

Christophe was shocked by the detailed order that seemed to come out of nowhere. His pride as a regular was crushed.

Quickly jotting down her order on the paper, he also added his regular order.

He handed it off to Sylvie who headed back into the kitchen to prepare the dishes.

There was a muted atmosphere with the few customers in the shop having small conversations. There was an awkward tension between Rosalie and Christophe. She was silently cursing herself for leaving her laptop in her dorm. It would've made it tolerable if she could play some games.

"So… Why'd you enter Wexcombe? Other than of course having the privilege to see me in person."

Christophe was joking around trying to bring up the mood.

"Well, some things came up. Now, I'm obligated to graduate from here."

Rosalie wasn't about to tell her whole life's story to a guy she just met last night. Not to mention a guy that broke into her room.

"I see… haha…"

Christophe could sense that Rosalie was not one for small talk. He wasn't going to give up though.

"You see… there won't be a repeat of last night. I won't be going to the girls dormitories at night anymore. I've cut ties with that girl."

"I know."

"What? How do you know?"

"I saw you leaving today."

Christophe thought back for a second and realized what she meant. His face flushed in embarrassment, to think he had been seen like that. Well, Rosalie's already seen him breaking into her room so her opinion of him has probably reached rock bottom.

"Well, yes. I don't think I'll be seeing her again anytime soon. Things don't really work out interests and intentions don't align."

He slouched back in his seat with a grin.

"Isn't this good news for you? I'm single now, why don't you give me another reason to sneak into your room again."

Rosalie could taste the vomit in her mouth…
